Petty Officer Simcoke served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Concord (CL-10) and USS Cushing (DD-376) and was MIA/FOD/KIA while serving on the Cushing in the Third Battle of Savo Island. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
