Donald Edwin Ryan was born Mar. 6, 1918 to Samuel A. and Cleo Ellen Ryan. He died June 1, 1944 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 1, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Ryan served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was MIA/FOD/KIA aboard the USS Herring (SS-233) when it was sunk near Point Tagan, Matsuwa Island, Kuriles by gunfire from shore batteries. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
