Merle Gordon Rice was born May 16, 1921 to Eliza Ann Rice. He died Dec. 1, 1943 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines, IA. He was initially buried in the U.S. Navy Cemetery, Halawa, Hawaii and returned to the U.S. in 1947.

Field Music First Class Rice served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps and was attached to G Co., 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Division and participated in combat operations on Tarawa until wounded in action. He was evacuated to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Aiea Heights, Hawaii where he died of his wounds.

John Linsey “Jack” Rich, Jr. was born Jan. 10, 1924 to John Linsey (Sr.) and Mary M. Caldwell Rich. He died Jan. 1, 1945 and is buried in Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, Luxembourg, France. 

Pvt. Rich served in World War II with the U.S. Army 55th Infantry Battalion, 11th Armored Division and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Louis George Richards was born July 4, 1924 to Earl Leslie and Ivanore Marie Richards. He died Nov. 9, 1942 and is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial, Carthage, Tunisia.

Hospital Apprentice Richards served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was KIA on Fedala Beach, North Africa. His death was caused by the explosion of a bomb close by during action in enemy territory.

Floyd Lewis Riederer, Jr. was born Apr. 17, 1920 to Floyd (Sr.) and Vivian Mary Guzman Riederer. He died Mar. 14, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy.

Lt. Riederer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 381st Bomber Squadron, 310th Bomber Group, Medium and was MIA/FOD/KIA in the Mediterranean area and was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
