Loyd served with the U.S. Army in World War II. He fought in battles in Ardennes, Rhineland, Battle of the Bulge and campaigns in Central Europe. His unit received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars. Loyd also received 2 Purple Hearts.

Vernard Oren Wetrich was born Jan. 12, 1917 to Oren Arthur and Gertrude Ethel Heichel Wetrich. He died Dec. 7, 1941 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 2, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii and at the USS Utah Memorial, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Wetrich served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Utah (BB-31) and was MIA/FOD/KIA in the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
