Delmar Carlyle Hanson was born Nov. 14, 1922 to Fred B. and Anna Thorvaldsen Hanson. He died Jan. 21, 1999 and is buried in Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA. Delmar served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Merle Arthur Hanson was born Sept. 22, 1918 to Fred B, and Anna Thorvaldsen Hanson. He died Jan. 20, 2000 and is buried in Richland Cemetery, Inwood, IA. 2nd Lt. Hanson served with the U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division in World War II.
He served 34 months in North Africa, Sicily and Central Europe and was awarded six Battle Stars, two Bronze Stars and one Arrowhead for the Invasion of Sicily. He was given the Belgium Fourragare and Presidential Unit Citations. He was also involved in the invasion of France on “D-Day Plus 3” and given the French Liberty Normandy Medal. He served in the Army Reserves for 25 years, attaining the rank of Lt. Col. He also received a Certificate of Liberation of France.

George Hoiland was born Mar. 23, 1914 to Jans and Tilda Amelia Amundson Hoiland. He died Mar. 19, 1945, was buried at sea, and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 4, Honolulu, Hawaii and in Graceland Cemetery, Madison, SD.
Sgt. Hoiland served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps Marine Fighter Squadron 452 (VFM 452) and flew F4U Corsair and Gruman TF Avenger Aircraft. He was serving aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) when it was hit by two bombs. There were 31 armed and fueled aircraft on the deck and although the explosions did not sink the ship, 807 were KIA and 487 WIA. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Horton served in World War II with the U.S. Army 417th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, 76th Infantry Division. He was KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
