Hugh Bryan Amis was born Aug. 16, 1914 to James Thomas and Eva E. Bryan Amis. He died Dec. 18, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, IA.
Petty Officer Amis served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was lost at sea off the Philippine Islands when the USS Monaghan (DD-354) capsized and sank.
