Russell M. Slight was born July 25, 1923. He died June 16, 1944 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock, IA. He was initially buried in the 4th Marine Division Cemetery on Saipan and returned to the U.S. in 1948.
Cpl. Slight served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps 14th Marines, 4th Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, Battery F, participating in the Battles of the Marshall Islands and Saipan. He was KIA on Saipan and awarded a Purple Heart.
