Duane H. “Dutch” Madson was born Dec. 5, 1920 to Marinus and Hazel Hollison Madson. He died Mar. 15, 1945 and is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA. He was initially buried in the 5th Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima and returned to the U.S. in 1948.

Cpl. Madson served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps C Company, 5th Tank Battalion, 5th Marine Division and participated in combat operations on Iwo Jima supporting the 28th Marines until wounded in action. He later died from his wounds.

Gilbert Theodore Marten was born Oct. 20, 1925 to Rolland Howard and Mary Gladys Gregg Marten. He died Jan. 8, 2021 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

Sgt. Marten served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
