Axel Sondergaard Christensen was born Apr. 23, 1914 to Sorn P. and Hilda Sondergaard Christensen. He died June 16, 1942/FOD June 17, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, East Coast Memorial, New York City, NY.

Coxswain Christensen served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was MIA while serving as a member of the armed guard, attached to the SS San Blas. That ship was torpedoed without warning and sank in the Gulf of Mexico. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
