Herman Leroy Nelson was born Feb. 12, 1915 to Lars and Anna Madsen Nelson. He died Nov. 29, 1941 and is buried in Saint Johns Cemetery, Exira, IA.

Pvt. Nelson served in World War II with the U.S. Army and died while in the service of his country.

Merrill Marvin Nelson was born Sept. 2, 1915. He died Oct. 9, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy.

Petty Officer Nelson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Buck (DD-420) which was ambushed by German submarine U-616 and sank within four minutes. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and was awarded the Purple Heart.
