| Located in Brookfield Township, section 25, 2.5 miles west of Kensett, Iowa on County Road A-38. Elk Grove Lutheran church was built in 1887 on the southwest corner of Ole Tollefsrud's farm, north of the cemetery. |

More about Elk Grove Cemetery:
The previous locaton of the Elk Grove Cemetery was in Section 26, also in Brookfied Township. The Elk Grove Synod Congregation was organized in 1876. Its first church was built in 1887 on the Southeast Quarter of Section 25, north of the present cemetery. The church was destroyed by lightning in 1911.
The first burial was Melvin Savre in 1879, and there are still occasional burials in this cemetery. These cemetery records have been compiled by walking the cemetery, copying gravestone inscriptions and doing rubbings, checking church records to 1917, (1878-1892 at First Luthera Church in Northwood, and 1892-1917 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett), and checking the cemetery map and WPA records. Donald Gaarder, Rt. 1, Kensett, Iowa 50448, telephone (641)845-2485, has a map. The Cemetery was walked by Helen and Ada Huus, Sharlene Stoddard and Lois Hogen in September 1985. The records were updated in 2007 by Sharon Roslien.
