East Rake Cemetery
aka East Lutheran

The East Cemetery, Rake, Iowa is located in Winnebago County, IA on 500th Street, 1/2 mile east of Rake. It was originally located on the site of the original Lincoln Lutheran Church, 1/2 mile east and 1 after being struck by lightning in 1900. The new Lincoln Church was rebuilt in the town of Rake, which was established in 1900. On May 21, 1907, the Pastor's Log for the Lincoln Church states:" Pastor Veriede dedicates new East Cemetery and has funeral for Ingvald Bertines Jorgenson, son of Hans & Pernilla." And on January 23, 1908 this statement appeared in the local newspaper, The Rake Register: "Quite a number who have some of their dead buried in the old graveyard on the Thor Sandum place moved them during the past week and reinterred them in the new graveyard one half mile east of town."

Gravestone photos for East Rake/East Lutheran cemetery have been submitted to the Iowa Gravestone Photo Project.
