"Services for Mrs E R Friesth were conducted from the Skaugstad Funeral
Parlors at 1:00 pm Saturday and from the Humboldt First Lutheran church at
1:30 pm with Rev O B Anderson officating. At the church services favorite
hymns were rendered. A men's trio consisting of Amund Endahl, Pete Endahl,
and Ray Hovey sang a Norwegian hymn. ""Whiter than Snow."" Mrs Russell Sime
sang two numbers, ""Heaven is My Home"" and ""Behold a Host Arrayed in White.""
Ragnhild Endahl was the accompanist.
Mrs E R Friesth (nee Melinda Larson) daughter of Lars and Melinda Larson
was born July 4, 1852, in Hjelmaland, Norway. Due to complications of old
age and a heart attack two weeks ago, she passed away at the home of her
daughter, Mrs S T Sampson on Wednesday evening, Jan 21, 1942, at the age of
89 years, 6 months, and 17 days.
When only nine years of age, Mrs Friesth came to America with her parents,
who settled in Pontiac, IL. In 1877 she was married to Mr E R Friesth and
in 1885 they moved to Badger, Iowa, then to Humboldt, Iowa where they lived
until their death. Mr Friesth preceded her in death in 1932, also two
daughters and one son. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Melinda Lindibak
of Westington Springs, S D, four sons, Lars of Badger, Gust of Fort Dodge,
Iowa, Rasmus A and Eilert J of Humboldt, Iowa; three daughters, Mrs Nels
Warland of Badger, Iowa, Mrs S T Sampson and Mrs Ole Soppeland of Humboldt,
Iowa, twenty nine grandchildren, and forty-eight great grandchildren, and a
host of friends.
For the past seventeen years she has been a semi-invalid, having suffered
from a fractured hip. But in spite of this, she was very cheerful and
patient. She loved the church and her hymn book and bible were constant
companions and it was this comfort that gave her courage to stand every
trial. In the days of her health she was a faithful worker in the Humboldt
First Lutheran Church and labored with those who laid the foundation for the
church of today.
Blessed be her memory.
Around $100 was announced at the services which had been given by members
of the family and friends in memory of Mrs Friesth to be given to different
projects.
Interment was at the Hovey Cemetery at Badger, Iowa." |
