14 Oct 2017 - Added new webages for the War of 1812 and the Korean and Vietnam Wars which link from the Military page. The new pages include the names, ranks and other information pertaining to Washington County's Veterans and Fallen Heroes from these wars.

21 Sept 2017 - Added new webpage for World War I, including a searchable file for the book "Washington County in the World War" and a listing of the 950 Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Nurses from Washington County who served in WWI. The list is newly transcibed from the index of the book.

15 Aug 2017 - Revised the Military page to accommodate for separate pages for each war; created a Civil War web page and added pictures of Civil War Veterans.

20 Mar 2017 - Added new web page: Washington Town Square 1950 - Illlustration that depicts the town square in the city of Washington and includes a list of the shops and their addresses. Added to the History Section

22 Feb 2017 - Added new web page: Century Farms - The Century Farms Program began in 1976 as part of the Bicentennial Celebration. It was sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. The list of the 202 Century Farms in Washington County identifies the family name, location and year the farm was established. (Complete record set).

24 Oct 2016 - Added new web pages: Patrons Iowa State Atlas - Washington County and Washington Township Patrons - The patron lists were published in the A.T. Andreas Illustrated Historical Atlas of the State of Iowa in 1875. The lists include the patrons' name, residence, business, nativity, year of arrival in the State, and location of the local post office. There are 88 patrons from Washington Township listed. 12 Sept 2016 - Added new web page: Pensioners in 1883 - The names of over 200 pensioners were published in the Washington Press on November 14, 1883. The list also includes residence, the reason for the pension and monthly amount. (Newly transcribed data).

02 Sept 2016 - Added new web page: Teachers in 1896 - The names of 210 school teachers were published in the Washington Evening Journal on November 28, 1896. (Newly transcribed data).

12 Feb 2016 - Updated History web page: added new page Original Plat of Washington, Iowa - 1839 - This information was published in the the Evening Journal, August 1939. It describes the first plat in the city of Washington and includes photograph of the plat.

07 Feb 2016 - Updated History web page: added new page Washington's First Sale of Lots - 1839 - This information was published in the the Evening Journal, August 1939. It describes the first sale of lots in the city of Washington and lists the names of the purchasers.

05 Feb 2016 - Added new page Brighton Births 1933. This is birth information that was published in the Brighton Enterprise, March 20, 1934. It includes birth dates and the babies' gender, weight and parents' names.

15 Jan 2016 - Added new page Richmond Death Records 1885-1895. This includes newly transcribed data (complete record set) with the names, ages and death dates of people published in the Kalona News in 1895.

10 Jan 2016 - Updated Washington County Genealogical Society webpage. Added the Program Schedule for 2016.

17 Sept 2015 - Added new page 1869 Bird's Eye View Map of Washington. The map shows the street layout and various points of interest including churches, schools, businesses and cemetery.

03 Sept 2015 - Added new page with photo and member names for the Washington Concert Band and added names of people in photograph for the ZCBJ Lodge.

05 Aug 2015 - Added new pages for Clubs and Lodges and the Rotary Club. The Rotary Club page includes newly transcribed data with club history and past presidents and secretaries, and a photo of the 1939 members.

13 Oct 2014 - Updated Newspaper web page: added new page WCGS Microfilm Collection. This list identifies the microfilm collection of various Washington County newspapers, and the years available, that are held in the WCGS library. The collection also includes newspapers from Louisa and Jefferson Counties.

06 Oct 2014 - Updated History web page: added new page Washington City Officials from 1864 - 1940. This is newly transcribed data listing 75 years of city officials! Also added a link for Downtown Washington Historic Research Project - This website provides research information on the historic downtown district, including an interactive map, detailed Iowa Site Inventory forms and photographs. 20 August 2014 - Updated webpage for Washington County Tax Lists: added transcribed list for Washington County taxpayers from 1839.

22 July 2014 - 100 new gravestone photos with family information were added the Iowa Gravestone Photo Project for Washington County, including records for Wassonville, Hillcrest and Elm Grove ( Iowa GPP Washington Co). Huge thank you to the Volunteer that added the 50 plus records with detailed family information for Wassonville!

7 Feb 2013 -  Regrettably, I had to remove all of the individual land records that were linked to the government site. They redid their links resulting in literally hundreds of broken links. I do not have the energy to go back and redo all of those links. The redirect had worked for several months but was discontinued. You will find a link to the Government records where you can search from there.
