Two families, John & Sarah Tomlinson and William & Sarah Stanley, lived in Washington Township, Warren County, Iowa. An 1859 map shows the Tomlinson & Stanley Mill in Section 29 in Washington Township, section 34, T76N, R23W.  The 1860 census lists William Stanley as a sawyer, while no occupation is listed for John Tomlinson.  Both families were Quakers, living near Ackworth.  Both families came to Warren County around 1856. The Tomlinson family stayed in Warren County. John died in 1874 and his wife, Sarah, died in 1905.  Both were buried in Ackworth Cemetery.  William and Sarah Stanley had married in Parke County, Indiana in 1851 and returned to Parke County by 1861.  William died in Parke County, IN in 1899 and Sarah died in 1924.  Both are buried in Bloomindale Friends Cemetery, Parke Co., IN.   It was uncertain how the two families were connected, until a newspaper clip was found in the Advocate-Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Iowa for Sep 20, 1883, saying that Sarah Tomlinson, and her brother, Levi A. Stanley were going to a reunion in Indiana visit their brothers and sisters.  Since Sarah Tomlinson’s maiden name was Stanley, these two families were likely brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
