It is not clear who owned the Lewis Mill in section 8 of Liberty Township, Warren County, Iowa.  There was a George W. Lewis who owned 80 acres of land in section 7 of Liberty Township which he purchased on June 3, 1856 from the federal government.  This George Lewis was born in Kentucky around 1813.  He married Phoebe Mallet on Jan 8, 1835 in Boone County, Indiana and moved to Liberty Township of Warren County, Iowa by 1855. In 1860 and 1870 his family was living in White Oak Township of Warren County.  George and his wife, Phoebe, were nowhere to be found in 1880, but in 1885 Phoebe was a widow, living with her married daughter, Nancy Williams, back in Liberty Township.  Phoebe Lewis died on July 24, 1890 and was buried in Shaver Cemetery, Liberty Township.
