Ackley's Mill

William H. Ackley, listed in the 1850 federal census in Polk County, IA was a millwright. He was born in Connecticut around 1807, married a woman named Lydia, and had three daughters and one son in Ohio: Mary A., Lydia A., Thankful, and William G. Ackley. William bought 80 acres of land in section 24, Richland Township, Warren County by 1852 and put a water mill on this property on South River. By 1860 he was still living in Richland Township, but his occupation was then carpenter. Nothing more was found on William H. Ackley, but his wife, Lydia was age 89 and a widow by 1880, living in Linn Township of Warren County.
