Highland Cemetery

HIGHLAND CEMETERY is located in the southeast quarter of the northwest quarter of Section 3 of Belmont Township. The cemetery is two and one-half miles east, two miles north and three-fourths mile east of Milo, Iowa.

Highland Cemetery is the former churchyard cemetery of the Highland Methodist Church which was organized in 1860. Original members of the church were Mr. & Mrs. Daniel Monroe, Francis A. and Louisa Monroe, Elizabeth Thompson and Mary Freel Wilson.

The church was torn down in 1906, and the material was used to build Greenplain Methodist E. Church elsewhere in the county. The church stood on the west side of the cemetery. When the church was torn down, the cemetery was surrounded by a beautiful wrought-iron fence.

There are many unmarked graves in Highland Cemetery.
