Baskerville, Thelma Ruth -

Funeral services for Thelma Ruth Baskerville were held Nov. 23 at the United Church of Christ in Fonda, Iowa.

Thelma was born Jan. 9, 1902, and died Nov. 20, 1993, at the Pomeroy Care Center at the age of 91 years.

Interment was in Cedar Cemetery, Fonda.

She is survived by five children: Irvin Baskerville and wife Ann of Jolley; Richard Baskerville and wife Roselyn of

Jolley, Arlene Krohn and husband Marvin of Jackson, Minn.; Ruth Ann Taxted of Urbandale; Bonnie Tyler and

husband Win of Lenox; 15 grandchildren and 27 grandchildren; brother Charles Hefflin of Titusville, Fla; and

sister Margaret Heflin of Red Bluff, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, R.W. (Dick) Baskerville; four brothers, one sister, a

grandson and a son-in-law.

Bothell, Lois Darlene Eigenheer -

Lois Darlene Bothell, daughter of Frank and Lillie (Powell) Eigenheer, was born March 13, 1923 in Adams County, Iowa and entered into rest November 10, 1993 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Corning, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 27 days.

She attended rural schools in Adams County and vicinity.

On March 25, 1956 Lois was united in marriage with George Bothell in her home in Adams County, Iowa.  She spent her entire life in this area as a homemaker.  As a young girl she was a member of the Mercer Center United Methodist Church and later became associated with the Carl Methodist Church where she was always willing to serve in any way she could.

She loved her home and family and being outdoors, and said her one unfulfilled ambition was to have driven a self-propelled combine.  Many people who stopped in to "cheer Lois up a little" were the ones who left, having been cheered up by her instead.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Tom Lincoln.

Lois is survived by her husband George Bothell of Prescott, Iowa, two daughters, Roberta (Charlie) Hribal of Afton, Iowa, and Stacey (Chuck) Truman of Prescott, Iowa, two grandchildren, Nathan and Alex Truman, one brother, Duane (Noretta) Eigenheer of Norwalk, Iowa, four sisters, Ila Lincoln of Osage, Iowa, June (Alford) Nicholson, Betty (Jack) Refer, all of Lenox, and Bonnie Kirk of Adel, Iowa,

a step-mother Mildred Eigenheer of Corning, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services were Saturday November 13, 1993 at 9:30 a.m., Coen Beaty Funeral Home, Corning, Iowa.  Officiating was Jeanne Groom of Prescott, Iowa.

Interment, Carl Cemetery, Adams County, Iowa.

Cheese, Hal C -

Funeral service for Hal C. Cheese, age 73, of  Ft. Collins, Colo., was held Thursday, Dec. 30, in Ft. Collins.

Honorary pall bearers were grandchildren Chauncey Busacker, Christopher Ryan Cheese, Sean Michael Cheese, Ashley Busacker, Jason

Widdows and Shawn Widdows.

Hal was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Lenox, Iowa, and died Dec. 27, 1993, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry T. Cheese, and mother, Florence E. Rupf. He  was married to Dorothy A. White on June 5, 1943 in Denver, Colo.

He was a World War II veteran.

Reager Funeral Home was in charge of cremation and interment in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Hamblin, Helen Lucille Taylor -

Helen Lucille Taylor was born June 19, 1915, in Sharpsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Effie and Albert Taylor. She graduated from

Lenox High School and taught country school for two years.

She married Lloyd Hamblin on June 30, 1938, in Bedford, Ia. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. They farmed in

Taylor county for 38 years before retiring in Lenox.

Helen was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women's Club. She was also a member of the L.A.L. and

Sunshine Sisters Club. Helen enjoyed sewing, baking, quilting, embroidery work, gardening, and collecting dishes.

Survivors include her husband Lloyd of Lenox, two sons Gary of Avoca, Iowa; Richard wife Clara of Loveland, Colorado; six

grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters: Vera Martin, Ruby Speelman, Susie Brown; and a brother Clark Taylor.

Funeral Services were Monday, November 1, 1993, 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox, Iowa.

Horton, Vernon Dean -

Funeral services for Vernie Horton of Clearfield were held Thursday, Dec. 30, at United Methodist Church in Clearfield, with Rev. Alan

Rusk and Rev. Phil Henderson officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Dick Longfellow and Don Wilson.

Casket bearers were Wayne Wilson, Charles Jackson, Grover Main, Jerry Fletchall, Dean Spurrier and Richard Spurrier.

Honorary pall bearers were Dale Bickel, Jerry Golden, Jerry Ewalt, Rupert Herring, Wayne Kemery, Dwight Matheny, and Dick

Longfellow.

Interment was in Clearfield Cemetery. Military graveside rites were performed by members of Woodside American Legion Post 97.

Wilson-Watson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Dean Horton, son of Bill & Grace (Short) Horton, was born May 28, 1935, at Conway and departed this life Dec. 27, 1993 at his barber shop in Clearfield at the age of 58 years, 7 months and 30 days. He attended Clearfield Schools & graduated in 1954.

He entered the Army in Oct. of 1954. While in the Army he served as a cook, and cooking was something in later years he enjoyed doing for his family and friends.

On Jan. 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to Carol Lee Abarr at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield. To this union were

born 2 children, Douglas Dean & Janet Lee, both of Lenox.

Vernie attended Iowa Barber College in Des Moines and had a barber shop in Clearfield for 35 years. One of Vernie's favorite pastimes was visiting with friends in his shop and on main street. He also was an avid gardener, taking much pride in it as well as his yard and home.

Sports were an important part of his life. He coached Little League Baseball, officiated football and basketball and was scorekeeper

for basketball for 20 years. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and enjoyed watching their many activities. He was looking

forward to watching his grandchildren as they participated in sports and activities in the years to come.

He was very active in community affairs. He was a member and treasurer of the Clearfield Lions Club and past City Treasurer and past

treasurer of the Clearfield School Board. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Lee; his son Doug (wife Paula) Horton of Lenox; daughter Jan (husband Lynn) Christensen of Lenox; seven grandchildren, Abbie, Blake and Josh Horton, and Tara, Tisha, Tate, and Trey Christerisen of Lenox; sisters Cleota (husband Boyd) Larsen of Clearfield and Kay (husband Lanny) Douglas of Lenox; mother-in-law Marietta Abarr of Clearfield and a host of

family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Johnny and Bob.

Vernie was a friend to all and willing to help others.

Kleckner, Frances Allen -

Frances Allen Kleckner of the Lamoni Manor, Lamoni, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 1993, at the age of 89 years.

She was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 25, 1904. She married Hulbert Ray Kleckner at Clearfield and he preceded her in death. To this union was born 10 children, five who preceded her in death; Flossie Mae Reid, James Marion, Orville Eugene, Genevra Arlene Jessup, and Gayle Rae Beede.

Surviving children are Donna Mary Beckett of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Frances Anne Moffitt of Galesburg, Ill.; Franklin Ivan of Rantoul, Ill.;

Dora Lee Fisher of Lamoni; and William Earl of Creston.  Other survivors include 19 grandchildren, 23 greatgrandchildren and one great great grandchild; sister Gladys Smith of Ottawa, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America. She was also a member of the Christian Church in Clearfield and for the past 12 years she attended church at the Church of Christ in Lamoni until her health prevented attendance.

The family greeted friends from 3-6 p.m. on Dec. 28, 1993, at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mt. Ayr. At her request, her body was cremated and she was buried in Bethel Cemetery southwest of Diagonal.

Knox, Winifred -

Winifred Knox, daughter of Howard and Mary Calkin Knox, was born September 25, 1909, on the family farm three

miles west of Clearfield, Iowa, and passed away at the Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa, on November 1, 1993, at

the age of 84 years, one month, and six days.

Winifred's education began in a country school, better known as Corn Bread College, and later attended Clearfield

High School. After leaving high school, Winifred lived at home with her parents and became a homemaker.

Winifred was a member of Greenwood Church, Southwest of Clearfield and of Greenwood Ladies Society. Later, she

became a member of Clearfield United Methodist Church.

In November 1958, she moved with her parents to Lenox, Iowa. After their death, she continued to live there

alone and attended the Lenox United Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending the Adult Sunday School Class and

Lenox U.M.W.

Winifred enjoyed cooking, sewing, and attending to her flowers. She loved to make quilts. She especially enjoyed

her great nieces, Shanda and Sherry Stephens and Anndee Huegel, and a great nephew Jeffrey Stephens, children of

Ivan Stephens and Enid Stephens Huegel.

Winifred enjoyed celebrating birthdays. She was born on her father's birthday, so they shared their "big day"

together. One year after his death, her great niece, Sherry Lynn Stephens arrived on September 25 and Winifred

was so proud to share her birthday with her.

Winifred really enjoyed her neighbors in Lenox, especially the birthday coffees. She was always talking of the

arrival of a little one in the neighborhood and kept us informed of their progress from birth till they were all

grown up.

In August 1986, Winifred was diagnosed with having two inoperable brain tumors. She entered the Clearview Nursing

Home in Clearfield, Iowa where she received excellent loving care for seven years.

Winifred was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Raub and Clifford and one sister Evelyn and a

brother-in-law Wilson Stephens.

Survivors include a nephew, Ivan Stephens and wife Shirley, a niece Enid Huegel and husband Robert. Three great

nieces, one great nephew and three great-great nephews, many cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. November 3, 1993, at the Clearfield United Methodist Church conducted

by Rev. Al Rusk. Organist Nioma Gaule accompanied soloist Jane Whitmore. Wilson-Watson Funeral Home were in

charge of the services.

Casketbearers were Ed Young, Carroll Baker, Glen Norton, Stanley Knox, John Lyddon, and Leroy Beggs.

Honorary Pallbearers were Don Keast, Sr., Bill Young, and Willis Wurster.

Burial was Clearfield Cemetery.

Lillie, Earle Duane -

Earle Duane Lillie, the son of James Monroe and Audra Newton Lillie, was born on August 9, 1919, in Gillette, Wyoming and entered into rest on November 8, 1993, at the Lenox Care Center at the age of 74 years, 2 months, and 29 days.

Earle spent his first few years of life in Wyoming before moving to Lenox where he attended country school and graduated from High School.  In June of 1942 he entered the military and served with the U.S..Army in the European Conflict. While serving in France, Earle was wounded, he received both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before leaving the service in 1945.

In 1948 Earle was united in marriage with Bessie Lewis at the Christian Church parsonage in Lenox. This union was blessed with four

children; Barbara, Virginia, Michael and Susan. Earle and Bessie farmed west of Lenox until moving to Lenox in 1987.

Earle was a member of the American Legion Post 250, a member of the Lenox Christian Church as well as an card player.

Surviving to honor his memory are his daughters Barbara and husband John Shehan of Lenox, Virginia Swank and Charles Surber of

Chillicothe, Mo, a son Michael and wife Pam Lillie of Lenox. Two brother-in-laws Earl and his wife Evelyn Lewis of Orient Iowa and Art Lewis of West Des Moines. Two nieces Diana White of Lenox and Vada Stone of Freemont, Ne. 13 Grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his loving wife Bessie, his daughter Susan Lillie, one grandson Scott Shehan, a brother Harold

Lillie, two sisters, Thelma Donaldson and Josephine Lillie, a niece Donna Rae Donaldson.

Services were Thursday, November 11, 1993 at Larkin & Shelley Funeral Home Lenox, Iowa. Officiating was Rev. Dena Woldroff, Pastor of the Lenox Christian Church.

Interment, North Fairview, Lenox, Iowa.

Lippold, Murial Mary Raydean Marckmann Dukes Mercer -

Muriel Mary Raydean Dukes Lippold was born September 19, 1933, in Adams County, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Minnie Winters

Marckmann. She died in her home in Kent on October 29, 1993 at the age of 60 years.

Mary grew up near Kent with a brother John and sister Wilma. In February of 1950, she married Ray Dukes. To this marriage five children were born: Curtis wife Audrey of Kent; Jeanne Jameson husband Bob of Bridgewater; Dennis wife Vicki of Greenfield; Rodney wife Debbie of Fontanelle; Terri Sickels husband Dale of Fontanelle.

After a divorce, she met John Mercer and to this union another daughter was born: Bonnie Stuart husband Tony of Creston.

Mary was very active with her grandchildren and anyone else who came. She loved company. Mary had a green thumb; raising big gardens and beautiful house plants and many other flowers. Cats and dogs were other favorites. She had a special "knack" for refinishing furniture in her spare time. She had several occupations, but also enjoyed working with older people.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Terri in 1988.

She is survived by her five children; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; parents Ernest & Minnie Marckmann of Kent; brother John Marckmann of Kent; sister Wilma Sevier and husband Jim of Kent; and special friend Lloyd Young of Kent.

Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 1, 1993 at Stringtown Community Church, Stringtown, Iowa.

Interment in North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Iowa.

Miller, Jesse Elvin -

Funeral services for Jesse Elvin Miller were held Monday, Nov. 22, 1993 at the Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Ted DeHass officiating. Military honors were conducted by Lenox American Legion Post No. 250, Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity. Iowa.

Jesse Elvin Miller, son of Port I. and Grace Pfander Miller was born near Sharpsburg in Taylor County, Iowa October 11, 1925

and departed this life November 17, 1993 at Omaha, Neb. at the age of 68 years, one month and six days.

He attended rural schools in Taylor County. On February 21, 1947. Elvin was married to Melvena Opal Ridnour. Melvena departed this life June 6, 1959.

On June 17, 1962 he was married to Mary Lou Damewood at Bedford, Iowa. Elvin was proud to have served in the Navy during

World War II. He served on the USS General C.C. Ballou, a troop transport. Farming was an important part of Elvin's life. As a young

man he helped his father with the threshing and he enjoyed telling of the experiences of the crew. He was always proud of his Hereford and later Gelveigh cattle.

He was proud and supportive of his family, Janie (Mrs. Randal Lewis). Libertyville, Iowa: Kathryn (Mrs. James Christensen), Greenfield. Iowa: Rosalie (Mrs. Rick Bissell), Corning, Iowa; James (Jennifer Brown-fiance), Sharspburg, Iowa; and Jean, student at Iowa State

University in Ames, Iowa.

He was always interested in the activities of his grandchildren: Scott and Nicole Lewis, Danelle, John, Mandy, Jason, Justin, Joshua and Brandi Christensen and Chelsi Bissell.

He was very excited to have a great grandson, Mikel Anthony Feick.

The Richard Wilson family also held a very special place in Elvin's life and heart.

Elvin was a member and past president of the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club and was a loyal supporter of the Lenox Rodeo. He

was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Lenox. He was a member of the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church,

having served as a deacon and elder. He was a member of the Clearfield Lions Club and enjoyed the annual trek to the Iowa State

Fair. He enjoyed fishing with Swede and deer hunting with Ivan and the rest of the group.

Elvin felt education was very important. He always attended the many school activities of his children. Elvin encouraged all

young people to realize the importance of a high school education.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Mary Lou; his son Jim and fiancee Jenn Brown; his daughters and their husbands,

Jane and Randy Lewis, Kathy and Jim Christensen, Rosie and Rick Bissell and Jean Miller, 10 grandchildren: Scott and Nikki

Lewis, Chelsi Bissell, Danelle, John, Jason, Justin, Joshua and Brandi Christensen, Mandy Christensen and fiancee Mark

Feick and also one great grandson, Mikel Anthony Feick.

He is also survived, by his brothers, a sister, and their families: Howard and Darlene Miller, Edwin and Marlene Miller, Marvin and Veda Miller, Leo and Naomi Miller, Lola and Arnold Million, and one sister-in-law, Wilma Anderson and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Raymond, his first wife, Melvena, and one brother-in-law, Leon (Swede)

Anderson.

Elvin was a friend to all, and willing to help others; He will hold a special place in their memories.

Owens, Martha Seymour -

Martha Seymour Owens was born December 14, 1903 in Townville, Pa, to the Rev. Ernest and Mrs. Minne (Coleman) Seymour and

died November 22, 1993.

They moved to Iowa when she was young. She attended high school in Boone, Iowa. She then attended college at Chicago University, Dubuque University, and Iowa State College. She taught Home Economics for several years. She also ran a tea room during the depression in Sac City, Iowa.

On June 5, 1946, she married Myron K. Owens of Clearfield, Iowa They lived on the farm for four years; then they started living in New

Hampshire for most of the year at Georges Mill, where they still live.

She was a member of the Baptist Church, and joined the Methodist Church in 1960.

Survivors include her husband, Myron; nephew Ernest Carl Seymour and wife Dolores of Green Bay, Wi.; niece Betty Janet and her

husband, Alfred Wasleske of Stevens Point, Wi.; also great and great, great nieces and nephews.

She will be laid to rest in Clearfield, Iowa, beside Myron's parents.

Services are pending and will be held this spring at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield, Iowa The Rev. Al Rusk will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts will be for the United Methodist Church, Clearfield, Iowa P. 0. Box 88, Clearfield, Iowa 50840.

Ranck, Olive M Colyn -

Olive M. Ranck, daughter of Charles and Nora Alexander Colyn, was born September 13, 1918 in Osceola, Iowa. She passed away October 23, 1993 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 10 days.

She attended grade and high school in Osceola, Iowa, graduated from McPherson College and received her Masters Degree at Portland

State University. Prior to 1957, she taught in country schools in Iowa and public schools in McPherson, Kansas. She moved to Portland, Oregon in 1957 where she taught school until her retirement in 1988.

Mrs. Ranck had been an active member of the Peace Church of the Brethren in Portland, Oregon since 1957; was past president of the

Association of Early Childhood Education International and was an officer at the time of her death. She was also an active member of A.A.R.P. and was a board member of the Ecumenical Ministry of Oregon.

Her peers had honored her on several occasions for her work with the Inner City of Portland for the preeducation programs, and she

was one of the pilot teachers for the Headstart Program of the 1960's.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, David and Charles Colyn. Olive is survived by her son Tom wife Melanie of

Brush Prairie, Washington; two grandchildren, Steven Ranck and Shannon French; one brother, John wife Alice Colyn of Sabetha, Kansas, a sister-in-law, Audrey Colyn of McPherson, Kansas, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services were Saturday October 30, 1993, at 1:30 P.M., Salem Church of the Brethren in Corning, Iowa. Interment at Salem

Church Cemetery, Adams, County, Iowa.

Robinson, Doyle Dotts -

Mass of Christian burial for Doyle Dotts Robinson was held Monday, January 3, 1993 at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox< Iowa. Rev. John Bertogli officiated. Music was provided by Bonnie Halligan, organist, and Cathy Evelsizer, soloist.  Casket bearers were Glen Allbee, Chris Evans, Paul Rainforth, Kevin Sweeney and Vince Sweeney.  Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Iowa. Military grave side services were performed by members of Parkinson American Legion Post 250 of Lenox, Iowa.  Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Doyle Dotts Robinson, son of Frank and Edith Dotts Robinson was born April 15, 1924 on a farm near Conway.  He died December 30, 1993 at St Josephs Hospital in Omaha after a severe illness.  He was 69 years old.

Doyle attended school in Conway and graduated from Conway High School.  He served in the United States Coast Guard in World War II, and while in the service he married Florence Sweeney on July 31, 1943 in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York.  After Doyle was discharged he and Florence moved to Walnut, Iowa where he began his farming career.  After three years they moved to the Lenox, Conway area.  Doyle and Frances had six children to bless this union. They were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 31, 1993.

He was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church, Parkinson Post 250 of the American Legion, Taylor County Farm Bureau and the Pork Producers Association. He farmed all his life in the Lenox area. He doted on his grandchildren, enjoying their visits and activities. He was an avid basketball fan, his favorite team being the Chicago Bulls.

Surviving Doyle are his wife, Florence, his six children: Terri and husband Jim Bennett of Omaha, Ne.; Linda and husband Stephen Porter of Thurman, Iowa; Stephen and wife Janet Robinson of Omaha, Ne.; Richard and wife Denise Robinson of Lenox; Patrick and wife Lahni of Lenox; Diane and Jeffrey Lange of Lenox; nineteen grandchildren, John, Amy, Kate and Matthew Bennett of Omaha, Ne.; Kelly and Shannon Cheek, Jennifer, Joe and Sarah Robinson; Jeremy, Garret, Maggie and Gabriel Robinson; Jared, Dara, Seth and Brenna Robinson; Corey and Connor Lange; two sisters, Maxine Allbee of Chariton, Ia., and Barbara Colter of Los Angeles, Calif. and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hal, and twin grandsons, Jordan and Michael Robinson.

His courageous struggle with rheumatoid arthritis and his unfailing good humor were an inspiration to his family, relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by an who knew and loved him.

Shepherd, Donald Dean -

Funeral services for Donald Dean Shepherd, 62, were held Monday, Nov. 1, 1993, at the Lenox Christian Church. Officiating were Rev.

Ralph Mehrens, Calvary  Christian Church, and Rev. Dena Woldruff, Lenox Christian Church.

Casket bearers were Wilber Shepherd, Ronald Shepherd, Jesse Haley, J.D. Shepherd, Mike Stogdill and Delbert Stogdill.

Honorary bearers were Richard Wilson, Dan Steinke, Elvin Miller, Gene Welch, Marlin Brown and Don Pfander.

Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery, Corning.

Donald, the eldest son of Willie Walter and Zelma Odessa Stogdill Shepherd, was born on May 18, 1931 in Gravity, Iowa, and passed away Oct. 28, 1993 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 10 days.

He grew up on farms in Adams and Taylor Counties in Iowa. After graduating from Lenox High School in 1950, Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for four years during the Korean War.

On Dec. 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Twila Jean Welch at the Christian Church in Lenox. Donald and Twila were married over 40 years. This union was blessed with a daughter, Terri, and a son, Rick.

After being stationed in Illinois, Oklahoma and California, Donald returned to Iowa in April 1955 to farm with his father-in-law. The

Shepherds made their home five miles west of Lenox until their move to Omaha in 1971. They settled in the LaVista area where Donald was employed by Wilson Concrete and later at Mangelsen's Hobby Center.

Survivors include his wife, Twila; daughter Terri and husband Terry Haley of Elkhorn, Neb.; son Rick and wife Terri Shepherd of Omaha,

Neb.; grandchildren, Jesse, Kim and Jayne Haley and Amy Shepherd; sister Joyce Dunn of Canyon City, Colo.; brothers Wilber, Ronald, J.D., Gary and Danny; step-mother Lena Nook; and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.

Smith, Howard Alvin -

Funeral services for Howard Alvin Smith, 87, of Lenox were held Monday, Jan. 17, at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home, with Rev. Eydie

Stephens officiating.

Howard was born June 26, 1906, and died at Mercy Hospital in Corning on Jan. 13 1994. He was born in Salzburg, Penn. to James and

Mary (Snyder) Smith, In 1940, he married Martha Francessca Bergstresser in Pennsylvania.

Howard was a printer by trade.

He is survived by his wife, Martha of Lenox; daughters Lanette (Mrs. Harry) Carr of Collegeville, Penn., and Joan (Mrs. Gerry) Wurster of Lenox; sons Dale (wife Mary Ann) Smith of Austin, Texas, and Randy (wife Dyanne) Smith of Los Angeles; sisters Emma, Minnie and Matte of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Interment was at North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.
