Ambrose, Ruth Knorr -

Ruth M. Ambrose, 77, of Lenox died Saturday, September 30, 2006, at Iowa Methodist

Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ruth was born November 18, 1928, in Adair County to George and Grace Eshelman

Knorr. She later moved to Creston where she lived until she was married. On

February 14, 1948, she married Karl W. Ambrose. Karl and Ruth spent most of their

married life in Lenox and southwest Iowa.

Ruth took great pride and joy in her cosmetology work. She was an avid Cub fan, enjoyed

working in her yard, gardening, and socializing with family and friends. Ruth was a huge

collector of Mickey Mouse memorabilia and shared the same birthday as "Mickey".

She is survived by two sons, Allen (Kay) Ambrose and Jonney Dee (Vicki) Ambrose one

daughter; Grace Ambrose, four grandchildren, Tammie Olson, David Balius, Courtney

Kossow, and Allison Ambrose, two sisters, Georgia Crawford and Helen Killam.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Karl, and two sisters Margaret

Buckner and Mildred Zimmerline.

Bissell, Theda Genevive Thompson -

Funeral services for Theda Bissell, age 88, of Lenox, who died Wednesday, September 20,

2006 at Vintage Park Apartments in Lenox were held Saturday, September 23, 2006 at

1:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Interment was held at the Summit

Cemetery. Memorials can be given in Theda's name. Memories can be shared with the

Theda Genevive Bissell was born May 31, 1918, on a farm south of Bridgewater, Iowa the

daughter Of Garner and Jane (Guthrie) Thompson. On June 1, 1935, she was united in marriage

to Raymond Bissell in Maryville, Missouri. Two children were born to bless this union, Richard

and Nancy.

Theda and Raymond were farmers at heart. After the death of Theda's brother, William

Thompson who was killed in Normandy, France in 1944, they moved to the home farm east

of Prescott, living there for fifty three years. In. 1997, they sold the farm and moved to

Creston. Theda moved to Vintage Apartments in Lenox in 2005 to be closer to her family.

She was always a busy person, helping out on the farm, doing chores, mowing the lawn to

perfection! Theda enjoyed bowling in her spare time, a sport she enjoyed for over thirty

years. Her main pride and joy was getting her hair fixed each week. If she ever needed

help she would call her kids or grandchildren to help, and they better not be late getting

there! She was a member of the Christian Church in Prescott and the William Thompson

American Legion and Auxiliary in Bridgewater, which was named after her brother.

Left to cherish Theda's memory are her son Richard Bissell and wife Connie of Elkhart,

Iowa; a daughter, Nancy Freshour of Lenox; grandchildren Jacqi Reed and husband

Stephen; Kyle Freshour and wife Kelly; Kevin Freshour and wife Bev; Nicolee Rasmussen

and husband Brad; Noelle Carroll and husband Steve; great grandchildren Troy Reed and

wife Chris; Crystal Shawler and husband Todd; Dawn Pullen and husband Frank; Kisha Wagoner

and husband Zackery; Taylor Rasmussen; Sidney Carroll; Tori Carroll; Gary Lucas and wife

Missy; and Kurtis Lucas and Jenny; great-great-grandchildren Evan and Xander Pullen; Gael

Preceding Theda in death were her parents, her husband Raymond in 1999; a brother

Blythe, Treye Allen -

Treye Allen Blythe, 18, of Ackley, Iowa, died Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Sartori

Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Funeral services were held August 23, 2006, at

the Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock High School Gymnasium in Ackley, Iowa.

Burial was at the Faith Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Ackley, Iowa.

Treye spent his early years in Bedford while his dad was a student teacher and

Bedford football coach.

Treye Allen Blythe was born February 19, 1988, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital

in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of Dustin and Lisa (Eckhoff) Blythe. Treye was baptized on

May 16, 1988, at Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, Iowa by Pastor Tim Diehl.

Treye graduated with Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock High School Class

of 2006, this past May. Treye played football and wrestled in high school in Ackley,

which he loved. He also played basketball, ran track, and had participated in choir.

Treye was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley. Treye had

many friends, and he especially loved playing washers with them.

He looked forward to the Blythe Family Fishing Trips to Canada, and he also loved

going to the Ozarks in Missouri with family. Treye worked at United Parcel

Service in Cedar Falls and was going to start classes at Hawkeye Community

College this fall.

He is survived by his father Dustin Blythe and his wife Cheryl of Urbandale,

Iowa; his mother Lisa Smith and her husband Jeff of Ackley, Iowa; one half

brother, Zachary Smith of Ackley, Iowa, and one half-sister Grace Blythe of

Urbandale; paternal grandparents Wayne and Joyce Blythe of Wellsburg, Iowa;

maternal grandparents Paul and LuAnn Eckhoff of Creston, Iowa; paternal great

grandmother Marie Akkerman of Ackley, Iowa; maternal great grandparents

Gerhardt and Edna Kramer of Ackley, Iowa; Henry, and Louise Eckhoff of Ackley,

Iowa; step-grandparents Mike and Kris Smith of Hudson, Iowa, Linda Smith of

Hudson, Iowa; David and Connie Pecinovsky of Protivin, Iowa; two uncles Vaughn

Blythe and his wife Amy of Center Point, Iowa; Brent Eckhoff of St. Louis,

Missouri; one step-aunt Jean Rosonke and her husband Joe of New Hampton, Iowa;

and two step-uncles Rob Smith and his wife Mindy of DeSoto, Iowa; and Pat

Pecinovsky and his wife Gina of Minot, North Dakota, and many other relatives. He

was preceded in death by one infant sister Sidney Smith, and by great-grandparents

Bradley, Lawrence Thurman -

Memorial graveside services for Larry Bradley, age 95, of Lenox, who died Thursday,

September 14, 2006 at the Lenox Care Center were held Saturday, September 23,

Lawrence Thurman Bradley was born December 15, 1910, in Creston, Iowa the son of Emmet

Bradley and Bertha (Krueger) Bradley. He grew up attending rural Union County Schools. He

then began farming and was also a chauffer in the Omaha area prior to his marriage.

On November 19, 1939, he was united in marriage to Lois Blakesley in Lenox, Iowa at the

Christian Church Parsonage. After their marriage, Larry began working as a mechanic for

the International Harvester Implement Dealership in Lenox. This is a position he would

hold for the next 42 years. After his retirement from the implement dealership, he began

his second career as 'caretaker' of Wilson Lake, a position he would hold for the next eight

years. Larry was a member of the Clearfield Lion's Club for over 30 years; a charter

member of the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic

Church in Lenox. He loved to go fishing, hunting and camping. Every summer he looked forward

to driving the shuttle buses for the Lion's Club at the Iowa State Fair. Together he and Lois

traveled throughout the United States, and even went as far as Canada one year. He was

also a past-member of the Creston Elks Club and the Creston Country Club at Summit Lake.

Left to cherish Larry's memory are his loving wife Lois Bradley of Lenox; three children,

Carol McFee of Rosalie, Nebraska; Larry Bradley, Jr., of Creston; and Edwin Bradley and

wife Linda of Lewistown, Montana; a brother, Bernard Bradley and wife Hazel of Jeffers,

Minnesota; three sisters, Ruth, Virginia and Teresa all of the Seattle, Washington area; five

grandchildren, Joann, Jarita, Robbie, Gary and Toni; six great grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob,

Bradley, Sara, Julie and Mason.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents Emmet and Bertha Bradley; a son John in

Orval E. Churchill, age 84, of Council Bluffs, passed away September 12, 2006 at

his home. Born November 12, 1921 in Gravity, IA to the late Ora and Rachel (Levi)

Churchill. He owned and operated Churchill Hauling here for 30 years. He was also

a former employee of Wilson Packing Plant for 22 1/2 years; former janitorial

maintenance at U.N.O. for 15 years. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist

Church, also a member of the Eagles and Forresters. He was preceded in death

by his wife Judy Ann (Garner) Churchill who died January 12, 1999. Survivors

include daughters and sons-in-laws, Linda and Jack Spencer, Princeton, TX; Joyce

and Tom Rouch, Blair, NE; Shirley and John Clatt, Ashland, NE; sons and

daughters-in-law, David and Kathleen, Norwalk, CA; Mike and Kathleen; John and

Cheri Ann; Ed and Sharon; Joe and Mary Elizabeth (Beth); Orval Jr. and Kim, all

of Council Bluffs; 22 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grand-children; sisters, Eva

and husband Rex Wyckoff, Bedford, IA; Midge Stewart, Des Moines IA;

Sister-In-Law, Marlene Churchill, Bedford, IA many nieces and nephews. Well

known by many friends.

Visitation with the family was held Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-

Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Services were Saturday 11:00 a.m. at

the funeral home with Jack Rock officiating. Interment was in Garner Township

Cemetery followed by luncheon at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Memorials

Green, Max Laverne -

Funeral services for Max Green, age 81 of Prescott, who died Thursday, September 14,

Max Laverne Green was born December 25, 1924, at the family home in Prescott

Township, Adams County, Iowa the son of Guy George Green and Mabel Grace

(Abraham) Green. He grew up attending rural Prescott School No. 4 and graduated

with the Class of 1942 from the Prescott High School. After graduation Max began

his farming career. He entered the United States Army, serving four months before

being called home because of his father's ill health. He then continued with his own

farming operation and also helped his father because of his poor eyesight. On May 21,

1944, he was united in marriage to Naoma Jean Cline in Red Oak, Iowa. Five children

were born to bless this union, Jon, Jana, Jolene, Jamie and Jeffrey.

After their marriage, Max and Jean continued their farming operation for the next

twenty years. In 1961, Max retired from farming to begin a second career as a

carpenter. He continued his carpentry business until 1993. However, he enjoyed helping

with family remodeling projects and even helped his son finish off his new home!

He was such a giving man when it came to his carpentry talents that he helped many

friends in the community complete their projects and he also built a chest of drawers

for each of his children. Max was a quiet, humble man who lived a private life. He was

very well-read man. Whether he was keeping up on the new farming techniques to discuss

with his son or discussing the Civil War, western culture or the family genealogy, Max was

well known as a 'life-long learner'. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing

small game ... however, in later years he simply enjoyed driving around the countryside

with Jean to enjoy watching the wildlife, always being an avid bird watcher.

Max was truly a family man. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Whether he played board games, a hand of cards or teaching the grandkids how to

draw ... he could always be found with a smile and patience as they learned something

new. He was truly a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Max was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church since being a young man and

was also a member of the American Legion.

Left to cherish Max's memory are his loving wife of sixty-two years, Jean Green of

Prescott; five children, Jon Green and wife Joyce of Prescott; Jana Thomas and

husband Greg of Bettendorf, Iowa; Jolene Hinrichs and husband Robert of Sigourney,

Iowa; Jamie Green and wife Kim of Lenexa, Kansas; and Jeffrey Green and wife

Jennifer of Perry, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren, Tonya (Jason); Trudy (Ben);

Graveside funeral services for Bertha Hight, age 92 of Corning, who died

Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 at the funeral home.

Bertha Loretta Hight was born August 16, 1914 in Conway, North Dakota the

daughter of Patrick Flynn and Mae (Walker) Flynn. On December 3, 1931, she was

united in marriage to Harold Hight. They farmed in the rural Carl vicinity until 1956,

when they purchased a farm near Corning. She was a dedicated farm wife and

worked for many years off the farm painting and wallpapering for many people in the

Corning area. Her hobby was crocheting. She especially enjoyed making afghans for

family members.

Left to cherish Bertha's memory are her son Rex Hight and wife Karen of Greenfield;

grandchildren Clint Hight and wife Lora of Greenfield; Melinda Treglia and husband Ed

Funeral services for Marilyn James, age 72 of Lenox were held Tuesday, September

26, 2006 at the Lenox Christian Church with Rev. Eydie Stephens and Rev. Tim

Marilyn James was born July 27, 1934 in Kent, Iowa the daughter of Clyde Franklin Miller

and Opal Reed., She graduated from Lenox High School in 1952. Marilyn was united in

marriage to Keith Raymond James on May 17, 1974 in Lenox, Iowa.

Marilyn worked as a secretary for the pathology department at Methodist Hospital

in Des Moines for about four years, then worked in Greeley, CO as a secretary. Most

recently she worked at the Lenox Care Center as the assistant activity director

and then employed by the Lenox Time Table since 2003.

She was a very active member of the Lenox Christian Church and the Lenox American

Legion Auxiliary.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Ron) Darling of Clearfield; brother Butch

(Jane) Miller of Lenox; grandchildren Stephen Ziebig of Lenox, Katherine Ziebig of

Clarinda, Iowa, three great grandchildren, one nephew, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband Keith in 1993 and great-grandson

Dominic Ziebig.

Funeral services for Alva Jones, age 89, of Lenox, who died Wednesday, September 20,

Alva Alvin Jones was born September 29, 1916 in Grand River, Iowa the son of Andrew

Jones and Anna (Preston) Jones. He grew up in southwest Iowa where he attended rural

schools. On August 7, 1940, he was united in marriage to Louise Jeanes in Mount Ayr. To

this loving union four children were born, Ronald Dale, Donald Dean, Vicki Sue and Nancy Ann.

Alva farmed all of his life working closely with his wife Louise on various southwest Iowa

farms where they raised their family. In 1957, he purchased a farm northeast of

Clearfield. He retired from farming in 1980. He and Louise continued living on the family

farm until moving into Lenox in 1997. Alva enjoyed being a farmer and the lifestyle it

provided. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing when time allowed. Alva

was a people person and knew no stranger! He had a tremendous sense of humor and

wit and was always willing to share a story or two. Alva's love was for his family, they

were his main interest in life. He was a devoted husband who visited his wife Louise

daily at the Lenox Care Center for the past two and one half years. He has been a

member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Left to cherish Alva's memory are his wife Louise of Lenox; two sons Ronald Jones

and wife Shirley of Joplin, Missouri; Donald Jones and wife Sharon of Marengo, Iowa; two

daughters, Vicki Huffman and husband Dennis of Melcher, Iowa; and Nancy Riley and

husband David of Lenox; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Preceding Alva in death were his parents; three brothers, Forrest, George and Horace

Jones; three sisters, Faye Jones, Vivian Baker and Hazel Creveling.

Darrell Long, age 83, Creston, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at

Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

A Memorial Mass was held Friday, September 15, 2006 at Holy Spirit Catholic

Church, Creston. Fr Leonard Kenkel officiated.

Burial was in the (Jerusalem) Evergreen Cemetery northeast of Creston.

Memorials may be directed to the Staff of Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

A Flag presentation was held by the Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797,

Creston.

Darrell Long was born August 3, 1923 in Clearfield, to Gladys (Short) and Wilbur

Long. He graduated from Shannon City High School in 1941 and entered the U.S.

Air Force. He served 3 1/2 years in Italy, being discharged in 1945.

In 1945 he married Marge Meyer; he worked for 42 years as a textile purchase

representative and set up new textile plants for the Lyons Company, Kansas City, MO.

Marge passed away in 1991. On May 15, 1993, Darrell married Margaret (Kelley)

Wimmer in Creston.

They made their home in Creston. Darrell was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic

Church in Creston.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Margaret of Creston; two step-sons, Gary (wife

Janene) Wimmer, Creston and Bill (wife Jane) Wimmer, Urbandale; one sister in-law,

Leta Long, Sanford, FLA.; one granddaughter: Danielle Long; four step-grandchildren;

and one step great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Marge in 1991, a son, Mark

Long in 2003 and one brother, LeRoy Long.

McNees, John Dean -

John Dean McNees, 76, passed away Wednesday evening, September 20 2006,

at home with his family by his bed. He had spent the past month in Red Oak Hospital

and wanted to come home to the farm.

John Dean McNees was born November 11, 1929 in Sidney, Montana to John

Franklin and Ada Mae (Knauts) McNees. John started to school in Richey, Montana

and when his father purchased the family farm in 1937 they moved back to

New Market, Iowa. He attended the Hazel Dell country school (Taylor County) before

moving into New Market and graduating in 1948. He attended a business school in

Omaha, Nebraska and started farming 1950.

John was drafted into the Marine Corp in December 1951 and served until December

1953. He treasured the memories of his duties in the marine Corp and the places he

got to go.

He met his wife, Vanita Garrard, on a blind date and they were married February 23,

1956 at the New Market Methodist Church. They spent their life on the family farm

making improvements and building a future together. Five children were born to this

union John Garrard (Gary); Barbara Ann; Susan Eileen; Joseph Franklin; and Julia Mae.

John engaged in a diversified crop and livestock operation; John loved the land,

always striving to preserve the soil for future generations. John loved to do deer

hunting with his sons and friends. He was a member of the New Market American Legion

Post 300, and served in several Post and District Offices. He loved to march in the

parades while he was able and was always ready to serve at military funerals as long

as he could.

He enjoyed camping and visiting around the campfires, and traveling. He always

enjoyed having his grandchildren visit.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vanita, New Market, Iowa; five children: Gary

and wife Lynn of New Market; Barbara and husband Eric Moench of Omaha, Nebraska;

Susan McNees, Vancouver, Washington; Joe and wife Kim of New Market, Iowa; Julie

and husband Rus Norem of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren Amanda and Jonathan McNees;

Jessica, Aaron, Justin, Emily, Matthew, Nathan and Breanne Moench; Preston and Cassie

McNees; Ashley and Eli Norem; one sister Eileen Handorf of Clarinda, Iowa; one nephew;

and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents John and Ada Mae (Knauts) McNees; one

infant sister Nancy Jane; and a brother-in-law Floyd Handorf.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept, 25, 2006 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel,

Clarinda, with Rev. Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Memorials are suggested to the New

Market Methodist Church, Interment was at Old Memory Cemetery, New Market, with

military honors provided by John F Hardin Post 164 American Legion; Bedford.

Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Alice M. Moore, age 73 of Creston will be held on Thursday,

October 19 at Blue Grove Cemetery, southwest of Lenox. Reverend Tim Maxa

of Lenox will be officiating. Visitation is open from 1:00-8:00 Wednesday, October 18

and 9:00-11:30 on Thursday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7-8

Alice M. Moore was born July 29, 1933 near Afton in Union County, Iowa the

daughter of Glenn Harvey Moore and Hazel Bernice Elliott. On December 18, 1952

she was united in marriage to Alphus "Tub" Jones. They were later divorced. She

worked as a spot welder at Gits Manufacturing for twenty years. She also worked as a

bartender at the American Legion for nearly twenty years.

Alice is survived by her sister Ina (Paul) Chandler, Sharpsburg, IA; Betty (Francis)

Schrodt, Pinellas Park, FL; Doris Watts, Creston, IA; and sister in law Maxine Lowe,

Creston, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; exhusband; three brothers, Chester,

Hollis and Merrill Moore; three sisters, Ruth Umbaugh, Louise Reeves and

Ruby Vorrath.

A. Wayne Preston, 56, of Creston died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at his home.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Powers

Funeral Home in Creston. Rev. Tim Maxa of Lenox officiated. Burial took place at

the Graceland Cemetery of Creston. Graveside military rites by the Theodore J.

Martens Post #1797, Creston, VFW. Memorials may be made to the family. Online

Arlan Wayne Preston, son of Margaret (Rouse) and Gerald Preston was born

November 7, 1949 in Des Moines. He graduated from North High School in Des

Moines in 1968. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam

War from 1970 until his discharge in 1973. On August 16, 1975, Wayne married

Linda Jones in Afton. They lived in Des Moines where he drove a delivery truck.

In 1982, they moved to Creston. Wayne worked as a Nurse's Aid at the Lenox

Care Center for 15 years until his health prevented him from continuing two

years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Preston of Creston; two sons, Seth (wife

Teresa) Preston of Lafayette, Ind. And Cory Preston (fiance Bobbie Foster)

of Creston; two step grandchildren, Anthony and Brian Kyle and his father and

mother in law, Lloyd and Mary Jones of Creston.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

Ritchey, Leslie McCaw -

Les Ritchey, age 87, died peacefully September 5th at the home of his daughter in

Sisters, Oregon. He was born December 19, 1918 in Des Moines, IA. The oldest child

of Charles and Mary (Still) Ritchey.

The rheumatic fever Les had as a child was 'cured' by panning for gold during a trip

to Montana. He discovered a love for the gold fields, photography and the great

outdoors that continued throughout his childhood and adult life.

Knowing that WWII was coming and reluctant to join ground forces, Les joined the

Navy to fulfill a lifelong dream of flying. Even as a child, he leaped from rooftops with

cardboard 'wings.' He became a flight instructor at Pensacola and eventually earned

the rank of Captain in the Marine Corps. He loved to fly the F4U Corsairs and found

stateside duty as dangerous and exciting as what was going on overseas.

After the war, Les bought an Indian motorcycle and traversed the country. He

stopped in the Upper Hood River Valley, found temporary work picking apples and

realized he had found a new place to call home. During the next four years in the Valley,

he found orchard work, flew a Stearman Ag Plane, was a flight instructor, and worked

on a logging crew. He returned to Iowa to finish his last year at Drake University.

There he fell in love and married Leona Herbst, a fun-loving teacher with a great sense

of adventure. In 1953, they returned with their infant daughter to the 10 x 12 foot

cabin in Parkdale where Les had 'batched'.

Les was hired by Mines Lumber Company at Dee to work in the lab. During his

career, he held many different positions at the hardboard plant, retiring in 1981.

A passion for archaeology developed when his daughter, Jean, brought home the book,

"Stone Age on the Columbia" by Emory Strong, and from that moment, the family spent

every possible holiday and weekend exploring the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest.

The Ritchey's were active in the Oregon Archaeological Society, Mid-Columbia

Archaeological Society and participated in many University excavations. Les also

explored on his own in a single engine Cessna, 4x4 Scout, a 12-foot aluminum boat

and scuba gear.

Leslie is survived by his children, Jean and her husband, Paul Stark, of Sisters,

Oregon, Connie Ritchey and Jim Ritchey, both of Hawaii, Brian Ritchey of Iowa and

five grandsons, Justin Swope, Jonathan, Jim, Ian and Jaxon Stark.

Funeral services for Jon Sweeney, age 44, of Prescott, who died Friday, October

13, 2006 will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lenox

Jon Michael Sweeney was born November 17, 1961, at the Greater Community Hospital

in Creston, Iowa, the son of F.W. (Bill) Sweeney and Marjorie Alice (Knodle) Sweeney.

He grew up attending school in Prescott and graduated with the Class of 1980. After

high school, Jon attended Southwestern Community College in Creston and obtained an

Associates Degree in Business. On September 17, 1983, Jon was united in marriage to

Debora Shires at the. Prescott United Church. Three children were born to bless this

union, Alicia Kay, Tonya Michelle and Lucas. Jon. On June 7, 2003 he was wed to Carol

Johnson in Winterset.

Jon farmed and raised cattle all of his life, being especially proud of his cattle herds.

While Jon continued farming he also worked at Barker Implement, Creston Motor

Company and NAPA. Jon enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a fixture at the Adams County

Speedway. He had traveled to Brainerd, Minnesota and Talledega, Alabama to watch races.

Left to cherish Jon's memory are his wife Carol Sweeney of Des Moines; two daughters,

Alicia Sweeney of Prescott; and Tonya Sweeney of Storm Lake; a son, Lucas Sweeney of

Fontanelle; bringing much joy to Jon's life was his newly born grandson, Austin Sweeney of

Prescott; two brothers, Larry Sweeney and wife Phyllis of West Des Moines; and Kevin

Sweeney and wife Debbie of Lenox; two sisters, Alice Reed of Creston; and Shelley Pettit

and husband Mike of Norwalk; former wife Debbie Westphal of Fontanelle; former sister-

in-law, Peggy Sweeney of Britt, former brother-in-law, Alan Adkisson of Corning; along

with many nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

Preceding Jon in death are his parents Bill and Marge Sweeney and former brother-in-

law, John Reed.
