Alborn, Mark A -

The tragic and perplexing death of Mark A. Alborn, 31, of Lenox has been ruled as an accidental drowning at the Lenox Swimming Pool.

Alborn's body was found about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at the Lenox pool by Dan Griffith, Lenox Police Chief, and city supervisor Jim Rice, according to the Lenox Police report.

The search for Alborn began late Tuesday morning when his disappearance was reported. He was last seen between 6 and 7 p.m. on

Monday night, March 18, the police report indicated, when he was on his way to retrieve a ball kicked into the pool by accident.

The Lenox Police did not comment on the lapsed time between the last time Alborn was seen and the time his disappearance was reported.

Alborn's body was found at the deep end of the pool, which contained a reported 6-7 feet of water. After the body was

discovered, the swimming pool and surrounding area were sealed off as the Lenox Police Department and the Taylor County Sheriff's Department investigated the scene.

Investigators with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation arrived at the scene early Tuesday afternoon, and Alborn's body was

removed from the pool at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The victim's body was transported to Des Moines for an autopsy, according to the police report, that indicated death by drowning. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation determined that the death was an accident and that there was no indication of foul play.

Alborn graduated from Bedford High School in 1983. He entered the United States Army shortly after graduation and was wounded during the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989.
