Coy, Betty Mae Blanchard Franke -

Betty Mae Coy of Gassville, Arkansas, formerly of Creston, died Sunday, December 12 at, Iowa Methodist Medical Center

in Des Moines of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Worth County, Missouri on Monday, November 29. She was

fifty-nine years of age.

Mrs. Coy was born at Panora, Iowa on May 18, 1923 to Robert and Daisy Kinkennori Blanchard.

She was united in marriage with Russell C. Franke on March 19, 1938. He preceded her in death March 27, 1967.

On April 27, 1968, Betty was married to Acil Coy in Orient, Iowa.

Mrs. Coy lived in Creston most of her life, until moving to Minnesota in 1970 and then to Arkansas in 1976. She was a

homemaker.

Preceding her in death besides her first husband were her parents and a half brother, Luther Keller.

Survivors include her husband of the home in Arkansas; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Dukes of Lenox; three sons, Wayne

Franke, Arthur Franke, both of Creston and Leroy Franke of Des Moines; a step-daughter, Mrs. Anna Beth Williams of

California; two step-sons, Charles Coy, Sr. and Dick Coy, both of Des Moines; fourteen grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren;

six sisters, Mrs. Bertha Wiley of Osceola, Mrs. Myrtle Allen of Indianola, Mrs. Irene Overholzer of Creston, Mrs. Marie

Perry of Des Moines, Mrs. Margaret Harden of Arizona, and Mrs. Mildred Cochran of California; and three brothers,

Allen and Alfred Blanchard, both of Creston and her twin brother, Bert Blanchard of Des Moines.

Services were held Wednesday, December 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Ellis

Cooper of the Crest Baptist Church in Creston officiated.

The organist was Mrs. Barbara Kuyper and the vocalist was Mrs. Berniece Mason. Vocal selections were "What A

Friend We Have In Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The special organ selection was "In the Garden".

Casket bearers were Ben Dodge, Carl Vogel, Harry Loghry, Glen Heinbuch and Emil Orth.

Interment was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.

A memorial has been established to the Salvation Army with the proceeds to be given to the "Dress the Doll" Christmas fund.

Cunningham, Frank -

Frank Cunningham, age 78, of Nortonville, Kansas died Wednesday, January 12 at the Jefferson County Memorial

Hospital in Winchester. He was born September 23, 1904 in Meridan, Kansas to Charles and Anna McGreevy Cunningham.

Frank moved with his family to Nortonville in 1920.

In 1938, he moved to Winterset, Iowa where he was engaged in farming. He later moved to Lenox, Iowa and was

employed by the John Deere Implement Company.

He was united in marriage with Alice Mary Madden in 1944 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox.

Mr. Cunningham accepted a position with the Lenox Municipal Light and Water Plant in 1952. He was employed there

until his retirement in 1970. At that time, he and Alice moved to Nortonville.

Mr. Cunningham was member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Nortonville.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; a daughter, Mary Ann Shell, her husband. Noble, and their children, Maria, Angela,

Melinda and Regina, all of Topeka, Kansas; six sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Domann, of Winchester, Kansas, Sister

.loan Therese, Mrs. Flo Binkley, Mrs. Margaret McCoy, Mrs Geraldine Weishaar, and Mrs Catherine Weaver, all of

Topeka; four brothers, Phil Cunningham of Topeka, Steve Cunningham of Toledo, Ohio, Robert Cunningham of Memphis,

Tennessee, and Leonard Cunningham of Kansas City, Kansas.

The mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 15 at St. Joseph's Church in Nortonville.

Memorials are suggested to the church or to the American Lung Association.

Curphey, Anabel Louise Pennebaker -

Anabel Louise Curphey, the daughter of Adelbert and Flossie Deaver Pennebaker, was born January 28, 1918 at

Sharpsburg, Iowa. She died Monday, November 8 at the age of sixty-four years, nine months and ten days.

Anabel spent her life in and around the Sharpsburg community.

She was united in marriage with Thurman Leroy Curphey on January 29, 1938 at Albany, Missouri.

Anabel will be remembered as a good wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a good neighbor who was ready with a

helping hand, and as a friend to many. She always accepted the challenges and changes of life.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister and two grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Thurman of Sharpsburg; two sons, Alan Curphey and wife, Jane of Sharpsburg and

Lloyd Curphey and wife, Avis, also of Sharpsburg; two daughters, Sheryl Sprague and husband, Harry of Lenox, Iowa

and Sandee Greene and husband, Garvin of Yorktown, Indiana; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services were held Wednesday, November 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox with Mr. James

Wells officiating.

Music was by Barb Scott, organist, and Chris Long and Linda Spring, vocalists. The selection was "How Great Thou

Art".

Casket bearers were Bill Beach, George Nelson, Clarence Imel, Leonard Knott, Ivan Holmes, and Joe Brammer.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Ditto, Hazel -

Thomas Grimm received word of the death of his sister, Mrs. Roscoe (Hazel) Ditto of Makwa Sosk, Canada.

Mrs. Ditto died at a nursing home in Loona Lake, Canada on Friday, December 10 at ninety years of age.

She was the daughter of George and Sara Grimm of Sharpsburg and had spent her young life in the Sharpsburg

community. In 1911, Hazel was united in marriage with Roscoe Ditto. They moved to a farm in Canada in 1917

where Mrs. Ditto lived until two years ago when she became a resident of the nursing home. Mr. Ditto

preceded her in death several years ago.

Survivors include seven sons, four daughters and two brothers, Tom Grimm of Sharpsburg and Lewis Grimm.

Eckels, Helen Louise -

Helen Louise Eckels, daughter of Lew and Verlee Gordon Eckels, was born on June 16, 1939 at Lenox, Iowa. She

entered into rest at her home near Lenox on December 29 at the age of 43 years, six months, and thirteen days.

Helen is survived by her parents, Lew and Verlee Eckels of Lenox; a brother, Dean Eckels and wife, Colette of

Lake wood, Colorado; two sisters, Carole Lea Spicer and husband, Duane of Ankeny, Iowa and Jean Spicer and

husband, Doug of Atlantic, Iowa.

Also surviving is her grandmother, Bertha Gordon of Lenox and five nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Don Fisher on Friday, December 31 at 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian

Church in Lenox.

Music was by Roberta Lockhart, organist and Gwen Maynes, soloist. Selections were "He Touched Me" and

"Amazing Grace".

Casket bearers were Darold Gordon, Russell Gordon, Dick Saccaro, Ted Gordon, Jim Sacarro, and John Saccaro.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Haidsiak, David Eugene -

David Eugene Haidsiak, age fifteen years, four months, and 19 days, died at his home in Lenox on January 20, 1983. He

was born September 1, 1967 in Creston, Iowa.

David was a freshman at Lenox Community High School and a member of the Lenox wrestling team. He loved to go

hunting and fishing, and enjoyed artwork.

Survivors include his parents, John and Ann Haidsiak of Lenox, two sisters, Robin and Heather; one brother, Joshua;

grandparents, Cecil and Minnie Cordell of Lenox, Max and Lois Haidsiak of Bedford; and great grandmothcr, Ruby Snyder

of Bedford.

Uncles and aunts include Dr. Wayne Haidsiak and family of Lenox; Lee Haidsiak and family of Clearfield; Lynn Haidsiak and

family of Newton, Iowa; Buster Haidsiak and family of Madrid, Iowa; Max Alan Haidsiak of Denver, Colorado; Mark Haidsiak

of Bedford; Lisa Haidsiak of Bedford; Susan Chesnut and family of Hopkins, Missouri; Kristi Hanna a and husband, Gary of

Red Oak, Iowa; Eugene (Slim) Cordell and family of Creston; Albert (Cotton) Cordell and family of Prole, Iowa; Kay

Bolinger and family of Lenox; Carol Cordell of Davenport, Iowa; Elinor Lumbard and family of Shannon City, Iowa;

Richard (Slug) Cordell and family of Olive Branch, Mississippi; a number of cousins and other relatives.

Final rites were conducted on Monday, January 24 at 2 p.m. at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Reverend

Carl Cummings of Bedford officiated.

Music was provided by John and Mary Tollman of Bedford, vocalists, and Mildred Stacy of Bedford, organist.

Casket bearers were members of the Lenox High School wrestling team, David Mattheis, Robin Armstrong, Scott Shepherd,

Rod Brown, Mike Haidsiak, Tom Dieleman, Mark Bowman, Steve Shepherd, Kelly Huffman, Craig Christensen, and Chad Bonnett.

Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

A memorial has been established for the Lenox High School athletic department, with donations to be specifically

directed towards the purchase of equipment which may be utilized by athletes in all sports.

Kinnick, Dorothy C Sorensen -

Dorothy C. Kinnick, daughter of Lauritz Christian and Jensine Marie Nielsen Sorensen, was born June 26, 1887 at Aalborg,

Denmark.

She died at the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids, Iowa on Sunday, November 28 at the age of

ninety-five years, five months and two days. She had been a resident of the nursing home since July 16, 1975.

She came with her family to the United States in 1904 and they settled in Greenfield, Adair County, Iowa. She was united in

marriage with Paul H. Kinnick at Greenfield on August 12, 1914. At that time, she became a citizen of the United States.

Dorothy and Paul resided in Coon Rapids, Iowa except for a short time in Bayard, Iowa. Paul was with the Iowa Savings Bank

and the First National Bank in Coon Rapids.

Dorothy devoted her time to her husband, her children and her home. Music was an important part of her life. She

played both the violin and the piano and loved to sing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the

Gleaner's Sunday School Class and participated in the Aid Society and the WSCS. While living in Bayard, she enjoyed

the Helping Hand Class of the Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband on April 1, 1968; her parents; a great granddaughter, Appril Eileen Smith;

two brothers, Maurice and Otto Christian Sorensen; and a son-in-law, Leverne Smith.

Survivors include her three children, Leo Millard Kinnick and wife, Ida Marie of Lenox, Iowa; Mary Eileen Smith of

Coon Rapids; and A. Edward "Buzz" Kinnick and wife, Colleen of Bayard; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren;

two sisters, Delma Luse of Vista, California and Louise Nielsen of Audubon, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Services were held Tuesday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Reverend Alfred

E. Eau officiated.

The vocalist was Kathleen Lucas, daughter of Leo and Ida Marie Kinnick of Lenox, and the organist was Lula Carries.

Casket bearers were the grandsons of Dorothy C. Kinnick. Interment was in the Coon Rapids Cemetery.

Klinzman, Fern May Ellen Olds -

Fern May Ellen Klinzman, the daughter of George E. and Anna Belle Carrey Olds, was born July 22, 1898 at Carbon,

Iowa. She died Tuesday, January 4 at the Care Center in Lenox, Iowa at the age of eighty-four years, five months

and thirteen days. She had been a resident of the Care Center since August 20, 1979.

Fern grew to womanhood in the Carbon community. She was united in marriage with Fred Martin Klinzman on

December 3, 1916 at Carbon.

The couple lived most of their lives in the Carbon, Corning, Sharpsburg and Lenox communities except for a short

period of time spent in Missouri and Minnesota.

Fern was a faithful and ardent worker, not only as a homemaker, wife and mother, but also ns a member of the Salem

Church of the Brethren. She was a kind and loving mother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sisters in infancy, Linda and Nettie; a sister, Gladys; and a

brother, Luther.

Survivors include her daughters, Hildred Reynolds and husband, Cecil Carl of Chula Vista, California, Doris Scott

and husband, Bill of Lenox, Bonnie Shelman and husband, Harlan of West Linn, Oregon, and Burdean Brown and

husband, Marlin of Corning, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a brother, Lewis Olds of Mora,

Minnesota; two sisters, Daisy Averv of Melpetus, California and Nellie Goodvin of Kansas City, Missouri; as well as many

nieces and nephews.

Services were held Friday, January 7 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Church of the Brethren near Lenox. Reverend Elmer West,

pastor, officiated.

Music was by Erma Fuller, organist and Mildred Walter, soloist. The selections were "How Great Thou Art", "Beyond the

Sunset" and "In The Garden".

Casket bearers were Steve Brown, Steve Thompson, Steve Hood, Fred Scott, Duane Hufnugd, Steve Foster and Bill

Majors.

Interment was in the Salem Church Cemetery.

Larkin-Bender Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.

Land, Amelia Strey -

Amelia Land, the daughter of Julius and Katherine Hucke Strey, was born in Creston, Iowa October 20, 1891. She died at

the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa on Monday, November 22 at ninety-one years of age.

She was united in marriage with Ernest W. Land. He preceded her in death December 4, 1916.

Mrs. Land was a lifetime resident of Creston and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a brother, Clarence Strey of Jackson, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews, including Ronald

Wurster of Lenox.

Services were held Wednesday, November 24 at the Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home in Creston at 10:30 a.m.

Reverend George Campbell of St. John's United Church of Christ officiated.

Music was furnished by Mrs Geraldine Heessel. Selections were "Gentle Shepherd" and "Amazing Grace".

Pall bearers were Paul Schroeder, Arthur Waltersdorf, Johnnie Land, Ralph Lauer, Burton Ceilings and LeRoy

Winkler.

Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery at Creston.

A memorial has been established to the Lenox Care Center.

Mortensen, Arthur -

Reverend Arthur Mortensen, 86, of fort Dodge, died there December 1. The memorial service was December 3 at the

Chapel on the Hill, Fort Dodge. The Reverend Mortensen served Presbyterian Churches in Lenox, Villisca, Winterset,

Rockwell City, Fort Dodge, Barnum and Blairstown.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosalie Howe of Dayton, Iowa; a sister, Margaret Shahan of Hot Springs, Arkansas; seven

grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Reverend Mortensen, as pastor in Lenox, was director of a mens choral club of 25 members or more who presented

a number of concerts. O.D Tyler was accompanist.

Preston, Allyson Patricia -

Allyson Patricia Preston, the daughter of Steven and Margaret Preston, died Wednesday, November 17 in a Chicago,

Illinois hospital following a twelve hour illness. She was two years and six months of age.

The home address is 8305 Rt. 53 A-10, Woodridge. Illinois 60517.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her grandparents, Carroll and Patricia Preston of Salisbury, Connecticut

and her great grandmother, Alice Preston of Lenox.

Services were held in Chicago on Saturday, November 20.

Among those attending were Mrs. Preston of Lenox and Norman Preston of Liberty, Missouri.

Richey, Edna Johanna Bengston -

Edna Johanna Richey, the daughter of John and Anna Smith Bengston, was born March 31, 1902 in Cherokee County, Iowa.

She died Friday, December 3 at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa at the age of eighty years, eight months

and three days.

She was united in marriage with Perley Edward "Pete" Richey at Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 7, 1948.

Edna was employed as a lab technician at the Cherokee State Hospital for a number of years. She and Pete moved to a

farm north of Sharpsburg, Iowa in 1955. Later they moved to Lenox where they joined the United Presbyterian Church.

Edna will be remembered as a loving aunt by her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband on May 4, 1980; a sister, Minnie Brown; and three brothers,

Martin, Harry and Alfred Bengston.

Survivors include a niece, Janet Swenson and husband of Canby, Minnesota; and three nephews, Dale Bengston and

wife of Oberdean, South Dakota, Vern Bengston and wife of Plymouth, California and Maurice Brown and wife of

Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Services were held Monday, December 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox. Reverend Don Fisher

officiated.

Music was by Roberta Lockhart, organist, and Gwen Maynes, soloist. The selections were "What A Friend We Have

In Jesus" and "My Loved Ones Are Waiting For Me".

Casket bearers were George Sweeney, Vince Sweeney, David Sweeney, Dan Sweeney, Glen Norton, and Jay Norton.

Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Riley, Howard Frederic -

Howard Fredrlc Riley, the third of five children born to William and Emma Schafroth Riley, was born August 25, 1901

in Adams County, Iowa near the Mercer Center community. He died at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa on Saturday,

January 15 at the age of eighty-one years, four months and ten days.

Howard grew up in the Mercer Center area, farming with his three brothers. During lulls in the farming seasons, he

worked at road construction in both Adams and Union counties.

As with most young men, he became fascinated with the automobile of the twenties, and for a time held a job assembling

new Fords for one of the first auto dealers in Lenox.

On March 3, 1929, he was united in marriage with Pauline McGregor. They began housekeeping on a farm they rented

north of Lenox.

During the depression, Howard moved his family to the farm east of Lenox the family now calls the "home place".

He and Pauline then bought the farm where they lived and labored most of their lives. In the fall of 1971, they sold

the farm and moved into Lenox. A few months later, Pauline was stricken with cancer. Howard devoted his time to making each

and every day more pleasurable for Pauline. She died on Memorial Day, 1973.

One of Howard's moments was when honored for his fifty membership in the Masonic Lodge,

Others preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Clarence and Pete, and a sister, Lillian Sterling.

Survivors include a son, Harlan Riley and wife, Lorraine of Lenox; a daughter, Beverly Hudson of Wahoo, Nebraska;

four grandchildren, Nanci Ann and husband, Stephen, Denise, Wayne and Diane; a brother, Raymond Riley; seven sisters-in-

law; three brothers-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews Howard considered his family.

Services were held Wednesday, January 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lenox. Reverend Lester

Hesseltine and. Father Mike Sims officiated.

Music was by Norma Paymal, organist, and Forrest and Margaret Whipp, vocalists. The selections were "Ivory Palaces"

and "How Great Thou Art".

Casket bearers were Bill Eberle, Ralph Zabel, Benne Miller, George Wurster, Darrell Reynolds, and Robert Morris.

Honorary bearers were Paul Davis, Erskirie Blair, Pete Wiand, Henry Beck, Orvin Bush, H.R. Bennett, Frank

Stanger, Gerald Carruthers, Eldon Jenkins, and Gerry Wurster.

Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Masonic rites were conducted by Tremont Lodge #343 A.F.& A.M.

Larkin-Bender Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.

Tourigny, Edna Howard Haas -

Services for Edna Haas Tourigny, 11010 Shetland Road, Boise, Idaho 83709, were held Thursday, January 6 at 2 p.m. at

the Red Rock Christian Church. Interment was at Cloverdale Memorial Park in Boise.

Mrs. Tourigny was born July 25, 1899 in Creston, Iowa. She died Tuesday, January 4 at eighty-three years of age.

At the age of seventeen, she was united in marriage with Frank B. Haas. The couple lived on a farm near Lenox, Iowa.

Following the death of her husband in 1935, Edna and her two daughters moved to Mason City, Iowa where she attended

LaJames Beauty College. After graduating, she opened her own shop, The Lovely Lady Beauty Salon.

In 1940, she moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and then to Los Angeles, California in 1942.

Edna was united in marriage with Philip Tourigny on November 22, 1945. They moved to Boise following his retirement in

1972.

Preceding her in death besides her first husband were four brothers, Gene, Paul, Hal and Jack Howard.

Survivors include her husband, Philip; two daughters, Marjorie Rardin and Nadine (Pat) McCollum; a sister, Agues

Wickman. three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Casket bearers at the services were Daryl Howard, Mark McCollum, Michael Rardin, Brian Wilson, Howard Trice,

and Lloyd Schiedmantel.

Walter, Lulu -

Lulu Walter, the daughter of Edmund and Nan Suman Walter died Thursday November 18 in Arkansas City, Kansas.  She was born in Lenox, Iowa May 3, 1899 but spent most of her life in Arkansas City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Clarence, and a half brother, Russell Homesten.

Survivors include a nephew, Dr. Charles Homesten and his family of Houston, Texas as well as several cousins.

Mr. and Mrs. Julian Walter of Lenox attended the services held November 22 at Arkansas City. Interment was in the

Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
