Hastert, Kathleen Rose -

The body of Kathleen Rose Hastert, 17, was found early Monday in Council Bluffs several blocks from her home. She was reported missing by her parents, Mr and Mrs Clarence Hastert, Sunday night  about 11 p.m. when they returned to their home and found part of her clothing scattered on the back steps.

The story had a local angle when we learned that the girl was the niece of Father Reisz, former pastor of St. Patrick's Church. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mulford of north of Lenox, were visiting Fr. Reisz at Westphalia when the news was brought to him. They accompanied him to his sister's house in Council Bluffs and saw the area of the

crime.

The girl had been dressed for bed and had her hair in curlers. She was dragged from the back door of her home and beaten with a heavy blunt instrument,

apparently an auto jack. The curlers were scattered about.  Her body was found in a weed patch, partly concealed, Monday morning. Roger Darnell, 25, of

Council Bluffs is charged with the crime.

Mr. Mulford said the girl's brother came to the home of Fr. Reisz to tell him of the tragedy.
