Alexander, Carmon E -

Carmon Alexander, 68, died Friday at 8:45 p. m. at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was a veteran of World War I.

The funeral was at Bender's Monday with burial in the Lenox Cemetery. He leaves his widow, Bernice, and a brother, Ernest of Kansas City.

Alexander, Carmon E -

Carmon E. Alexander, son of Jack and Sarah Winslow Alexander, was born May 1, 1898 in Adams County, and lived at the Alexander homestead in Mercer

township. He passed away Feb. 19 at the Des Moines V A Hospital at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 18 days.  He was united in marriage Apr 9, 1938 to

Berniece Miller at Clarinda.

He attended the Mercer Center Methodist Church when a young man. He served his country during World War I.

He is survived by his wife Berniece, one brother Ernie and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Mr Alexander had a pleasant disposition, always enjoyed visiting with people and will be sadly missed by his family and a host of friends.

Arnold, O P -

O P Arnold, 78, of Des Moines, died there Friday. He operated a funeral home in Lenox until about ten years ago when he moved to Des Moines.

Services were Monday, Feb. 15 at the Arnold Funeral Home in Des Moines, with burial there.

Survivors are his wife, Flora, a son, Joy, and 2 grandchildren, all of Des Moines. Tom and George Ferguson are brothers of Mrs Arnold.

Mrs O P. Arnold sent additional information concerning her husband who died Friday Feb 12 at his home in Des Moines. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery

there Feb 15.

Mr Arnold was born in Marion county. He operated Arnold's Funeral home in Lenox for 36 years, moving to Des Moines in 1933. He assisted his son Joy,

owner of Arnold's Highland Park Funeral Home there.

Mr Arnold was a member of Auburn Masonic Lodge, Des Moines Consistory, Auburn Eastern Star, Za Ga Zig Shrine, Des Moines White Shrine 43, and

Highland Park, Christian church. He was Past Master of the Lodge at Lenox and sang in the Double Eagle Chorus of the Des Moines Consistory for several years.

He is survived by his wife Flora; son, J P Arnold, a brother Roy of Ambrose, N. D., and two grandchildren.

Brown, Clarissa -

Mrs Clarissa Brown, 92, died at the Lenox Rest Home Wednesday morning. She was born in Taylor County and had lived here all of her life. Her husband, Will Brown, died in 1956. The funeral was Friday at Bedford with burial at the Conway cemetery.

She leaves 5 sons and three daughters: Glen of Bedford, Eddie of Lincoln, Nebr., Dale of Harlan, Orville of Sharpsburg and Horace of Des Moines; Mrs

Mattie Van Loon, Knoxville; Opal Reed, Conway and Jessie Colter, Villisca; ?4 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

Casey, Bessie May -

Bessie May Casey passed away Feb. 10, 1965 in Barstow, Calif. She was born in Prescott on March 17, 1894 where she spent her early years. In 1912 she was

married to Jonathan. E. Casey of Lenox, where they made their home until 1934, when they moved to Osceola. Mr Casey passed away in December, 1944.

Mrs Casey is survived by one brother, Lee M. Stahl of Creston, three daughters, Marie Moore, Myrl Chambers and Dorothy Alexander, all of California.

There are seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was <a lifetime member of the Christian Church of Prescott and Lenox, being active as pianist and in the choir.

Services were held on Wednesday at the Bender Funeral Home.

Crawford, Arda Jane Bell Johnson Dawes -

Services were held Feb. 6, 1965 at Price's Funeral Home, Maryville, Mo., for Arda Crawford, 93, who died Feb. 3. The Rev. Howard Judah officiated.

Arda Jane Bell Crawford, the daughter of Jehu and Elizabeth Johnson, was born in Nodaway County, near Clearmont, Mo., July 17, 1871 and passed away

Feb. 3, 1965, at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 17 days. She died at the nursing home at Lenox.

She was united in marriage to John Bailey Dawes on Nov. 4, 1888 at the home of her parents. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs Charles (Florence)

Veatch of Lenox. Mr Dawes passed away May 14, 1896. On Feb. 28, 1898, Mrs Dawes was united in marriage to Marion T. Crawford. To this union one son (Oda Sloan,) was born and died at the age of 3 years. Mr Crawford died Aug. 25, 1936.

The deceased lived all her married life on a farm, one mile west of the Good Hope Church, west of Hopkins, Mo. In the spring of 1947 she moved to Maryville, Mo., where she lived until her stroke in April 1961 and was taken to the Maryville Hospital where she spent 11 months. On April 1, 1962 she was taken to the Lenox Nursing home to be near her daughter and family.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her son-in-law Charles Veatch; 2 grandsons, Estel and Marion Veatch; 1 great grandson, Rodney Brown, 1 great great granddaughter, Rosanne Sandstrom, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

She leaves to mourn her pass ng her daughter, Mrs Veatch one sister; Mrs Frank (Nettie) Maurer of Kansas City, Mo., 4 grandchildren, Olen Veatch of

Fontanelle, Howard Veatch of Creston, Eugene Veatch of Iowa City, Walter Veatch of Prescott, 2 granddaughters, Mrs Viola Sandstrom, Sharpsburg and

Mrs Arda Leona Brown of Tempe, Ariz.; also 15 great grandchildren, 2 step great granddaughters 9 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Eberle, Fred -

Fred Eberle of Elizabeth, Ill., died there Feb. 12 after a short illness. Surviving are his widow; a son Judge Wesley Eberle of Freeport, Ill., 2 daughters,

Mrs Sarah Atz, Dakota, Ill., and Darlene Amesquita, Savanna, Ill.

Mr Eberle was quite active in community affairs. Five brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death. He was a brother of the late Charles Eberle and of

Chris Eberle. Nieces and nephews include Elmer, Bryan, Kenneth and Georgia Eberle, Floyd Eberle and Mrs Alvin Leach of Prescott, Carrie McGrath of Corning, Leah Mclntyre of California, Wilma Gosch of Wall Lake, Jemima Keith of Des Moines.

Ferris, Lois  Ionia Gillette -

Two women were killed in a car accident 2 miles north of Blockton Tuesday evening. The sheriff's office said the report came in at 5:55 p: m. Dead are Mrs Robert Loutzenhiser and Mrs James (Lois) Ferris, wife of the Christian minister at Blockton.

Mrs Ferris was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo Gillete of Sharpsburg. Mr Loutzenhiser was driving the car. Five other occupants are in the hospital.

The driver of the other car was Geo Lawrence of Des Moines. The officers said the cars collided head-on in the middle of the road. There had been ice on the roads earlier, but they said there apparently wasn't on Highway 25 where the accident occurred.

The Blockton people were on the way to a basketball game.

Ferris, Lois Iiona Gillette -

Lois Ionia, daughter of George and Ada Cree Gillette, was born November 7, 1921, near Gravity, Iowa, and passed from this life on February 9, 1965, at the age

of 43 years, 3 months, and 2 days.

Lois attended the Sharpsburg school and following her graduation she attended AIC Business College in Davenport.

She was united in marriage to James Willard Ferris on January 11, 1942, at the home of her parents in Sharpsburg and to this union were born four children.

At an early age she joined the Methodist Church at Sharpsburg and was baptized. Later again she was baptized with her children and was now a member

of the First Christian Church in Blockton.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Blockton.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Rev James Ferris, pastor of the Blockton Christian Church; two sons, James Wayne of Des Moines, and David D. of Creston, two daughters, Maine loma and Corrine Adamae, both of the home, her parents, Mr and Mrs Geo M. Gillette of Sharpsburg, a sister, Mrs Martin (Darlene)

Taylor of Muscatine, two brothers, Ivan Gillette of Aledo, Ill., and Dean Gillette of Davenport, granddaughter, Kathy Sue Ferris of Des Moines; her parents-

in-law, Mr and Mrs John W. Ferris of Des Moines.

Lois filled a need in the lives of those close to her. Her many words of wisdom and gracious deeds will always be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Last rites were conducted on Sunday, Feb. 14 from the Christian Church in Blockton with burial in the Washington cemetery at Gravity.

Godden, Theron L -

Mr Theron L. Godden, 56, of Chicago, died Monday morning in a hospital there.  He had been sick for several months.  Mr Godden lived in Lenox until he

finished high school, and later lived in Creston.

Survivors include his widow Arlene; his mother, Mrs Cora Godden of Rock Island, Ill., a sister Mrs Verlee Greenhagen, also of Rock Island, and two nieces.

Services will be at 2 p. m. at the Bender Funeral Home here with burial in the Fairview cemetery.

Mr Godden was a brother-in-law of Mrs Velma Godden, and a nephew of Mrs A. L. Hegwood.

Hancock, Ida -

The funeral of Mrs Clarissa Brown, mother of Orville Brown of Sharpsburg, was at Bedford Friday.  Four women who were driving to the funeral were in a car accident near Leon.  Mrs. Ida Hancock, of Williamson, Ia., mother of Mrs Orville Brown, died in the accident.  Her daughter, Mrs Ashley, 52, is in critical condition. Also in the car was a daughter-in-law and a relative of Mrs Harlan Brown.

Hunter, George Doudand -

George Doudand Hunter, one of 5 children and the eldest son of Giles and Margaret Virginia (Jennie) Hunter, was born May 21, 1876 near Shenandoah, and

departed this life at the Armstrong Nursing Home in Bedford at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 24 days on Mar. 17, 1965 after an illness of 2 weeks.

Most of his early life was spent in and around Shenandoah and New Market.  Doud, sometimes known as Dee to his friends spent the greater part of his life farming. He had lived alone in Sharpsburg the last 15 years, after the death of his wife.

On May 26, 1897, he was united in marriage to Emma Catherine Long of New Market, who died July 12, 1952. To this union 6 children were born: Helen, Mrs

J. S. Andrews; Pearl, Mrs Waldo Burns; Daisy, Mrs Merle Moore; Doud Jr., Dale and Max.

Survivors include his six children, their husbands and wives, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, John, Ralph and Blaine and several nieces and nephews.

LaRue, Maclyn, Mrs -

Mrs Maclyn LaRue, wife of the former Taylor County Extension director, died Monday afternoon. She had been ill for several years The family now

lives at Denison. Besides her husband, she leaves 5 children.  The LaRues were well known in this area where he served with 4-H and extension for

several years.

O'Connell, Joseph Vincent -

Joseph Vincent O'Connell, son of John and Margaret O'Connell was born Nov. 13, 1877 in Taylor Co., Iowa, and passed away at Rosary Hospital in Corning

on Thursday, Jan. 28, 1965, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, 15 days. He suffered a stroke while at Mass at St Patricks Church on Sunday morning.

On Feb. 14, 1906 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Cain of Corning, who passed away July 26, 1942.  Two children came to bless their home, Homer Vincent who lived on his father's farm for the past 35 years and one daughter, Grace Marie of the home. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Nellie, one

granddaughter, Bernadine Matya and her husband Thomas and 4 great grand children, Timothy, Kathleen, Nancy and Maureen Matya of Corning. Also by three sisters, Mrs Nellie Robinson of San Diego, Calif., Mrs Anna Jones of Lenox, and Mrs Walter Jones of Corning, many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was one of fourteen children. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Will, Henry, Gus, Frank, Dan and Robert, also by four sisters, Agatha, Gertrude, Hannah and Mayme.

He and Grace moved to their home on Grove Ave. in Corning in January 1964, after farming for many years.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 30, 1965 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Donatus of Rosary hospital officiating, with the burial at St Patricks cemetery in Lenox. Pall bearers were Dan Leonard, James Keefe, Jim Hunter, Arnold Leonard, Wm Ryan and Tip Lucas.

Rees, W R -

W R Rees of Mesa, Ariz passed away there Saturday, Jan. 23. He was about 70 years of age and formerly lived here. He was the brother of Mrs A. L.

Pine and father-in-law of Herman Beck.

Survivors include his widow and 3 daughters. The funeral and burial were in Mesa Monday.

Stoner, Louisa Lucretia (Lulu) Jenks -

Mrs Lulu Stoner, 94, died at her home southwest of Lenox Friday morning. The funeral was Sunday at the Bender Funeral Home with burial here.

Her husband Ruben died in 1920. She leaves a daughter of the home.

Stoner, Louisa Lucretia (Lula) Jenks -

Louisa Lucretia (Lulu) Jenks, the eldest and last surviving child of Margaret Herriott Jenks and Oliver Jenks, was born Mar. 26, 1871, on a farm 8 miles south

of Lenox. She passed away Friday morning Feb. 19 at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 23 days.

When she was a small girl, she moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Kansas and later to Colorado. When she was eleven, her father died. The

widowed mother and Lulu came back to Iowa to live. Mar. 26, 1890 Lulu was married to Ruben Stoner. They were parents of two children.

Lulu died in the house where she had spent all her married life. Her family and her home were her main interests in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died Mar. 10, 1920; her son Glen who died 8 years ago; her parents and two brothers.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Grace who faithfully cared for her during her long suffering with arthritis and total blindness for the last 3 years.

Funeral services were at Bender's Sunday, the Rev. A. J. Clements officiating. Music was by Marcia Bender and Norma Paymal. Pall bearers were Carl

Cordell, Fred Barrans, Art Jones, Walter Boltinghouse, Myrle Henderson, and Howard Blake.
