Adkisson, Edna Marie Johnson -

Edna Marie Adkisson, daughter of Nels and Minnie Johnson was born June 26, 1902 near Lenox, Iowa and departed this life at the Sunny Slope Nursing Home

near Mount Ayr, Iowa, Dec. 28, 1968, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 28 days. Most of her life was spent in Ringgold County.

On September 17,1920 she was united in marriage to Alfred Adkisson at Creston, Iowa. This union was blessed with thirteen children. She is survived by her

husband, Alfred and, eleven children, three sons and eight daughters: Cecil Adkisson, Mount Ayr, Iowa, Ernest Adkisson, Grand River, Iowa, Lillian (Mrs. Darwin

Day), Kansas City, Mo., Doris (Mrs. Loren Tomlinson), Chillicothe, Ill., LaVerne Adkisson, Diagonal, Iowa, Donna (Mrs. Dale Barrens), Des Moines, Iowa, Darlene (Mrs.

Gene Rogers), Lenox, Iowa, Janice (Mrs. Robert Wilson), Des Moines, Iowa, Alvena (Mrs. Daniel Clark), Elston, Iowa, Mary Lou (Mrs. John. Campbell), Dexter,

Iowa, Kathryn (Mrs. James Stone), Diagonal, Iowa. Other survivors are three daughters-in-law, eight sons-in-law, forty four grandchildren two great grandchildren,

three sisters, one brother and one half-sister. Also several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, one son, Glen and one daughter Minnie Bell, one infant granddaughter, two half-brothers, one half-sister, and one adopted sister.

At an early age she joined and was baptized at the Fairview Church north of Clearfield, Iowa. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who will be greatly missed by all. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren.

Barrans, Fred J -

Fred Barrans, 69, died at his home in Lenox Tuesday morning about 4 o'clock. He had been in failing health for some time.

Survivors include his widow, Vesta, a sister, Mrs. Edith Notz and a nephew, Richard Notz of Lenox.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 o'clock from the Bender Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Odishaw, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating.

Music will be furnished by Billie Jean Barker, Helen Brokaw and Marcia Bender.

Bearers are William Barrans, Glen I. Hughes, Harold Carey, Kenneth Black, Marvin Reed and Larry Rogers.

Burial will be in the Lenox Cemetery.

Barrans, Fred J -

Funeral services for Fred J Barrans were held Jan, 23rd at Bender's Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Robert Odishaw of the United Presbyterian Church. He died at his home in Lenox, Iowa Jan. 21, 1969. Interment was in the Lenox Cemetery.

Fred J., son of John and Eva Mae Barrans was born near Lenox Feb. 1, 1900 on a farm near Lenox, Iowa and died at his home on Jan. 21, 1969 after a six month illness at the age of 68 years.

He attended the rural schools after which he engaged in farming with his father. In 1947 he moved to Lenox, he and his mother making a home together.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

At an early age he became a member of the Presbyterian Church. During the pastorate of Rev. Mortenson, he was a member of a quartette which was much

pleasure to him. Later he transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian Church.

January 1, 1966 he was united in marriage to Vesta Clark of Bedford, Iowa by Rev. Willard Morris, after which they made their home in Lenox, la.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Vesta, a sister, Edith Notz, a, nephew, Richard and wife Linda and a grand niece, Annette, also a sister-in-law,

Pearl Thompson of Bedford, Iowa.

He will be greatly missed by family and many friends.

Cain, Rose Katherine Krohmer -

Mrs. Rose Cain, resident of Lenox most of her life, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 22nd at the hospital in Corning, Iowa, where she had been taken the day before.

Rose Katherine Cain was born in Germany, January 28, 1885 and passed away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, January 22, 1969 at the age of 84 years, 11

months and 25 days.

She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 3 years.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Cain, February 12, 1918 and to this union 3 sons and two daughters were born.

Preceding her in death were her husband, a son Joseph, and an infant daughter.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Starry of Creston, two sons, Raymond and Paul of Lenox, one sister, Mary Larson of Lenox and a brother, John Krohmer of Stockton, Illinois, two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Marjorie Cain of El Cajon, Calif., and Mrs. Thelma Cain of Lenox. Also 7 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren

and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 25th at 2 p m.. at the Bender Funeral in Lenox with Rev Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating.  Music was furnished by Norma Paymal.

Bearers were Ray Hewitt, Gene Paymal, James Hewitt, Bill Campbell, Barley Morley and Robert Rhoades.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Case, Ralph H -

Ralph H. Cast, age sixty seven, of Brighton, Colorado, died Feb. 17, 19G9, after an extended period of ill health. Ralph, was born and grew to manhood in the Stringtown community. He operated a produce buying station at Corning, and later at Albia, before moving to Colorado for his health, nearly twenty five years ago.

He operated a filling station at Brighton, and then worked several years at a luggage manufacturing company in Denver, before retiring two years ago.

Those attending memorial services from this area, were his sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Dicks, and Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Westlake of Corning. Also Mrs. Laura Symonds and Everett Symonds of Lenox, and Mrs. Leonard (Iola) Steele of Knoxville.

Mrs. Symonds is the mother of Mrs. (Mae) Case, and Everett and Iola are brother and sister. Incidentally, there were five generations present, with Mrs.

Symonds, age eighty eight being the eldest.

Cassill, Harold (Dutch) -

Harold "Dutch" Cassill, former Lenox resident, died Monday at his home in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cassill who lived in this area for many years.

Mr. Cassill grew up and attended school here, graduating with the class of 1929. He attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City and is a graduate of the school. While there he was editor of The lowan, and later became head of the circulation department of The Register and Tribune in Des Moines.

At the time of his death, he was with Blackburn Assoc., brokers for radio and TV.

Survivors include his wife and two children, Ann and Paul.

Memorial services will be held Friday morning, Jan. 17th at 11 o'clock at the Nelson-Berger funeral home in Sioux City.

Cordell, John Franklin -

John F. Cordell, 22, a rural Lenox youth, was killed in a one-car accident early Sunday morning, when his car left the road about 6 miles north of Lenox. The accident happened on highway 49 when the car went off the road and overturned. The young man had returned this fall from two years service in the army, one of which was spent in Vietnam. He was alone at the time of the accident.

John Cordell was born Dec. 7, 1946, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cordell, route 2, Lenox. He had lived in the Lenox community all his life, attending the local schools, where he graduated with the class of 1965.

Survivors include his parents, two brothers, LaVerne Cordell, of Lenox and Larry Cordell of Sharpsburg, two sisters, Mrs. William Smithson of Exira and Mrs. Doyle Gilbert of Council Bluffs, plus a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, January 14 at 2 p. m. from the United Methodist Church at Sharpsburg, with Rev. Edward Tschetter, officiating.

Music was furnished toy Lulu Mae Beck.

Bearers were Don Swank, Grover Mains, Charles Dukes, Michael Bennett, Allen and Wayne Brammer.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Cordell, John Franklin -

John Franklin Cordell, son of Carl H. and Nettie Evans Cordell, was born Dec. 7, 1946, south of Bedford and passed away Jan. 12, 1969 age of 22 years, 1 month, and 5 days.

John moved to Sharpsburg with his parents when two months of age and spent his entire life in the Sharpsburg and Lenox community. He graduated with the class of '65 from the Lenox Community High School.

He joined the Armed Forces in June of 1966, serving 10 months of his Military Service in Viet Nam. He received his honorable discharge in June 1968, and in May of that year he received the following Certificate of Merit for outstanding service. The citation reads:

John, joined the Methodist. Church when a child and was a faithful worker as usher, was in choir and M. Y. F.

John leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Mr. and. Mrs., Carl Cordell two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Gilbert of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Donna Smithson of Exira, two brothers, La Verne Cordell of Lenox, Larry Cordell of Sharpsburg, two sisters-in-law, Linda Cordell of Sharpsburg, Faith Cordell of Lenox. Also two brothers-in-law, Doyle Gilbert of Council Bluffs and William Smithson of Exira, eight nieces and three nephews and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. He

will be missed by all who knew him.

Gray, Bernice Larimer -

Mrs. Bernice Gray, 73, died a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where she had gone to visit a sister, Mrs. Ruth Brun. Mrs. Gray had suffered a heart attack at Flagstaff, Arizona, enroute to Phoenix. Her death occurred Saturday.

Mrs. Gray was born at Chariton, Iowa August 15, 1895. She had spent most of her life in Lenox.

Survivors include her husband, Perry, who is a resident of the Lenox Nursing Home, six sons, Richard and Charles of Lenox, Billy and Jack of Des Moines, Robert of Soap Lake, Washington and Tom in the U. S. Air Force at Grand Forks, N. D. A son, James, was killed in an accident here in Lenox in 1951.

Two brothers, Charles and Gerald Larimer both of Des Moines and her sister in Arizona also survive, Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

Her body arrived in Lenox Wednesday and funeral services will be held Thursday morning from the St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 10 a m with Father LaVern Wingert, officiating. The family has requested a Memorial fund instead of flowers. A Rosary was held Wednesday night at Bender Funeral Home.

Bearers will be James Gray, Dean Larimer, Harold Larimer, Milton Larimer, Robert Callahan and Cleo Hawthorn,

Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Gray, Bernice Larimer -

Bernice Gray, daughter of Charles and Helen. Larimer, was born to Ottumwa, Iowa, on Aug. 15, 1895, and passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix,

Arizona on January 18, 1969 at the age of 73.

Bernice was united in marriage on August 29, 1917 at Creston, Iowa to Perry I. Gray. To this union were born seven sons.

Bonnie, as she was known by her friends, lived with her parents in Lucas County until coming to Lenox. From Lenox she moved to Clarinda, where she worked at the Iowa State Mental Institute until 1961 when she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she resided with her son, William I. Gray at the time of her death.

Bernice was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Perry, six sons: William and John of Des Moines, Robert of Soap Lake, Washington, Thomas in the U.S. Air Force and Richard and Charles of Lenox, one sister, Ruth Brun of Phoenix, Arizona, and two brothers: Gerald and Charles Larimer of Des Moines, Iowa.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Hubert (Fat) Larimer, and one son, James.

Funeral services were conducted from the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox Thursday, January 23, 1969 with Father Wingent officiating.

Music was furnished by the Junior and Senior choir of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Bearers were James Gray, Harold Larimer, Dean Larimer, Milton Larimer, Don Drennan and Robert Callahan.

Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Hewitt, Charles Walter -

Charles Hewitt, 91, a longtime resident of this vicinity, died Friday, Jan. 17th after a short illness in the Creston hospital.

Charles Walter Hewitt was born October 6, 1877 near Morning Sun, Iowa and passed away at the age of 91 years, 3 months, and 11 days at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa January 17, 1969 after a 2 week illness.

Charley came to Adams Co. with his parents at the age of 5 in 1882. He spent most of his life on the home place where his folks settled. He moved to a home in Lenox in 1959.

In March 1902, Charles was united in marriage with Edith May Butler at her father's farm home near the big tree. They enjoyed 61 years of married life before Edith was called to rest on December 24, 1963. To this union was born 6 children: Velma Bentley of Diagonal, Ray Hewitt of Lenox, Ralph Hewitt, Lucille Shawler of Creston, Irene Wurster of Lenox and Helen Blazek of Creston.

Also surviving are one daughter-in-law Beatrice Hewitt, four sons-in-law: Orville Bentley, Orville Shawler, Russell Wurster and Eugene Blazek, 15 grandchildren,

31 great grand-children, one sister Lizzie Stewart of Hummansville, Missouri, also several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death besides his wife was one son Ralph Sept. 16, 1921, also an infant grandson Donald H. Bentley, his parents, 2 infant brothers, 3 sisters, Emma Oshael, Lilly Madison, Addie Nisely, one half-sister, Pearl Maharry and one step brother, John Thompson.

Charley and his parents were charter members of the Prairie Star Presbyterian Church. He had a jolly disposition and a joke for everyone. He was happiest when his grandchildren and great - grandchildren were around him.

Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Lenox Monday afternoon, Jan. 20 at 2 p, m. with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.

Bearers were Ivan Lucas, Johnnie Reed, Harley Morley. Bert Shawler, Bill Campbell and Robert Lockhart.

Music was furnished by Norma Paymal.

Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Holmes, Josephine Trager -

Mrs. Josephine Holmes, 86, of Sharpsburg, died at Rosary hospital in Corning Saturday, Mar. 1st. Mrs. Holmes had been in failing health the past few months and had been hospitalized about a week.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Chitty of Sharpsburg, Mrs. Helen Miller of Grant City, Mo., Mrs. Margaret Rose Otte of Astoria, Ore., and Mrs. Genevieve Eckert of Schnectady, N. Y. Two sons, Ivan Holms of Kansas City and Cecil J. Holmes of Creswell, Ore., as well as 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Holmes preceded her in death several years ago.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the Sharpsburg United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Odishaw officiating.

Music was furnished by Donna Cribbs, Janet Reed and Mary Ann Hague.

Bearers were Leo Evans, Gene Mains, Duane Beck, Elvin Miller, Joe Brammer and Don Donaldson.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery in Bedford.

Holmes, Josephine Trager -

Josephine Trager was born in Mahaska County, Iowa on August 28, 1886 and peacefully passed away March 1, 1969 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa

at the age of 82 years, 6 mo., 1 day.

She was united in marriage with Loren A. Holmes on Dec. 7, 1905 who preceded her in death on August 2, 1942. To this union were born eight children.

Those surviving are: Mrs. Gladys Chitty, Sharpsburg, Iowa, Mrs. Helen Miller, Grant City, Mo., Cecil J. Holmes, Creswell, Oregon, Mrs. Margaret Otte, Astoria, Oregon, Mrs. Genevieve Eckert, Schenectady, New York and Ivan H. Holmes, Kansas City, Mo.

Also surviving are 1 sister, Mrs. Rachel Brockney, New Sharon, Iowa, 1 brother, John Trager, Denver, Colo. 3 sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Those preceding her in death besides her husband were 2 daughters, Opal Pauline who died in 1910 at 2 years of age, Mrs. Doris Overman who died in 1939,

2 sisters, 2 brothers, 3 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, and 3 grandchildren.

She was formerly affiliated with the Christian Church, them she associated with the United Presbyterian Church when they moved to Sharpsburg in 1936. She was a faithful member and enjoyed her membership in the UPWA.

Mrs. Holmes loved and enjoyed life. To her, mere association with people was an expression of joy. Her friends were countless. Those who shared moments with

her will long remember a philosophy that life is giving freely of oneself, expecting no reward except a cheery "Hello, Josie."

Manroe, Benjamin Harrison -

Benjamin Harrison Manroe was born in Lenox, Iowa November 6th, 1892 and passed away at the Northgate Manor, Corning, Iowa, Jan. 30, 1969 at the age of 76 years, 2 months, and 24 days.

He was the son of Francis and Emma (Cunningham) Manroe.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Jennie Consolver of Lenox and Mrs. Mae Munison of Madrid, Iowa and 1 brother, Mr. Fred Manroe of San Diego, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded to death by 2 sisters, Mrs. Bess Haas and Mrs. Doll Turman and 3 brothers, Jack, Roy and Ellie.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Lenox. He served with Co. K - 168th Infantry - 42nd division in World War I with 18 months overseas duty. He had the honor to serve as the first Post Commander of Parkinson Post of the American Legion of Lenox.

Be enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was never more happy than when he was helping people, both young and old.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 1, 1969 from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox with Rev. Donald Briley officiating.

Bearers were Geo. Grey, Glen Hale, W. J. Crouch, Carl Sexton, A. L. Nicholson and Myrle Henderson.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Toland, Branch W -

Branch W Toland, son of Riley and Josephine Toland, was born in Fremont Comity, Iowa May 2, 1889, and passed away at his home in Lenox, Iowa, on January 20, 1969, at the age of 79,

Branch was married August 20, 1913, to Bertha Sellers at Clearfield, Iowa, and to this union were born two daughters and a son.

Branch had farmed most of his life near Lenox. He loved stock, especially his calves, and he took pride in his garden and yard.

Mr. Toland was a member of the Methodist Church in Lenox. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Encampment and Patriarch Militant Lodges at Creston.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Bertha, two daughters, Mrs. Roland (Maurine) Lee and Mrs. Wesley (Thelma) Gamble of Des Moines, a son, Duane of Lenox, two sisters, Mrs. Huldah Pearson and Mrs. Clark Moore of Lenox, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and one sisters.

Funeral services were conducted from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Wed., Jan. 22 at 2, p m with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the United Methodist church, officiating. Music was furnished by Norma Paymal.

Bearers were William Clem, W. J. Crouch, Carl Spring, Carl Sexton, Harold Knox, and Leon McDowell.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Van Wormer, Cora May Paymal -

Cora Paymal Van Wormer, former Lenox resident, passed away at the Alpine Convalescent Hospital, in Alpine, California, on December 25, 1968.

Funeral services were held at St. Kieran's Catholic Church, in El Cajon, California, on December 27, 1968. Interment was in Glenn Abby Memorial Park,

Chuta Vista, California.

Cora May Paymal was born Oct. 17, 1882 in Adams County, Iowa, daughter of Eugene and Mary (Douhet)  Paymal, the youngest of seven children. On December 31, 1912, she was united in marriage to Emmett Van Wormer of Craig, Missouri. They lived on a farm southwest of Lenox before moving to Mont., and on to California. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Ida Readhead, Louise Sealy, four brothers, Joseph, Frank, Lafe and Johnnie. She is survived by

one sister-ln-law, Mrs. S. L. Paymal of Omaha, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.

One nephew, Eugene Paymal is a Lenox resident.

Weber, Regene L -

Regene L. Weber, 64, former Lenox resident, died Monday Feb. 17th at 12:50 pm in Clarinda, Iowa.  Death was due to pneumonia.

She spent her early life in Lenox, having attended school in this town.

Survivors include three sisters, Georgia Eberle and Mrs Leah McIntyre of Lenox and Mrs Wilma Gosch of Wall Lake, Ia. and a brother Kenneth of Lenox.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox at 2 p.m. with Rev Robert Odishaw, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be in the Lenox Cemetery.

Welch, Anna Maude Blair -

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 25th at 2 o'clock from the Lenox Christian Church for Mrs. Maude Welch, 80, who died Sunday at the Rosary hospital in Corning.  Mrs. Welch, a lifelong resident of Taylor County, resided on  farm west of town.

Survivors include a son, Harold, two grandchildren, Mrs. Donald Shepherd, and Gene Welch all of Lenox. She is also survived by two great grandchildren. Her husband. Chester, died in 1959.

Rev. Don Briley of Prescott, officiated at the services. Music was furnished by Pauline Wilson and Irma Wilcox.

Bearers were William Paul, Walter Brown, Dean Weese, Willie Westlake, Arthur Hardin and Donald Strange.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Welch, Anna Maude Blair -

Anna Maude Blair Welch, daughter of Wm. and Amanda Blair, was born Sept. 21, 1888 near Gravity, Iowa, and passed away February 23, 1969, at Rosary

Hospital in Corning. She spent her entire life in Taylor County and has lived on the home place for over 50 years.

On October 27, 1907 she was married to Chester R. Welch, at Gravity.  This home was blessed with one son, Harold.

Early in life she united with Oak Hill Church, where she was a charter member, and later transferred her membership to the Christian Church in Lenox.

She was a member of the Lenox Order of the Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her father and mother, one sister and two brothers and her husband who passed away April 7, 1959.

She is survived by her son Harold and wife Lena, who were such a comfort to her and cared for her tenderly, one granddaughter, Twila Shepherd and

her husband Donald, one grandson Gene Welch and two great grandchildren, Terri and Ricky Shepherd.

Mrs. Welch is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Henry Schiltz and family of Wathena, Kans., two brothers, Robert Blair, Sharpsburg, and Wilbur Blair of Lenox,

two sisters-in-law, Gladys and Nellie Blair, one brother-in-law, Henry Schiltz and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She adored and lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed greatly by all.

Windom, Glenn Alvin -

Glenn Alvin Windom, eldest son of Alvin and Sarah Windom was born May 27, 1902 at Nodaway, Iowa and passed away Wednesday, January 8, 1969 at Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa following a lingering illness.

He was united in marriage to Agnes Helen Hendrickson on May 27, 1923 at Creston, Iowa shortly after which they moved to Maryville, Missouri where they resided for one year before moving to the Fairfield and Clay Center, Nebraska communities where they lived 8 years.

In 1932 they moved to Logan, Iowa where they lived one year before returning to the Adams County area where they were engaged in farming until 1962.

At that time they retired from farming. and returned to Clay Center, Nebraska.

To this union four children were born: Mrs. Sarah Pauline Barnes of Overland Park, Kansas, Mrs. Beverly O'Riley of Lenox, Iowa, Dr. Dean Windom of Bethany, Missouri, and Mrs. Marilyn Wurster of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one daughter-in-law, Joan Windom and 3 sons-in-law: Stanley Barnes, Harold O'Riley, and Gary Wurster, five granddaughters and five grandsons and one-great grandson. He leaves 4 sisters: Mrs. Emily Johnson of Grinnell, Iowa, Ruth Hayden of Seattle,

Washington, Mrs. Blanche Lund of Brooks, Iowa, and Mrs. Esther Means of Villisca, Iowa and one brother Arthur Windom of Villisca, Iowa, a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Agnes on June 24, 1968, his parents and one sister, Mrs. Alma Shipley.

His special interests were his family, friends, and farming. One of his primary interests during his farming career was the breeding of purebred Shorthorn

cattle for which he received many awards and achievements. Due to failing health he was unable to attend the golden anniversary reunion of the first 4-H exhibitors of baby beeves at the 1916 State Fair at which time special honors were bestowed upon the few surviving exhibitors.

At the time of his death he was a member of Iroquois Lodge No. 590, A.F. and A.M., Nodaway, Iowa and the Christian Church in Clay Center, Nebraska.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and it was with his strong faith in God that he has endured these past few years of suffering.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Nodaway, Iowa, January 11, 1969, conducted by Rev. J. Lester Greenwood and Rev. Don Burkum.

Music was furnished by Rev. Don Burkum, soloist, and Mrs. Carl Johnston, organist.

Pall, bearers were Harold Briggs, Malcolm Shipley, Paul Lund, Donald Means, Jack Butler and Fred Shepherd. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Harold

Shepherd and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Shepherd. Masonic rites were conducted by Iroquois Lodge No. 590 A.F. and A.M. Burial was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
