Abel, A E -

A E Abel of Creston passed away Monday, April 29. The funeral was May 2 with burial at Cromwell. He was the father of Mrs Dale Purdum. His wife and several other children survive.

Akers, Neal -

Neal Akers, son of the late Mr and Mrs Richard Taylor Akers, was born in Taylor county north of Gravity, Iowa, July 13, 1886 and passed away at Rosary hospital in Corning Tuesday afternoon Apr. 23, 1963 at the age of 76 years, 9 months, 10 days.

Jan, 27, 1S09, he was married to Elsie Piper. To this union were born two children, Merle of Gravity and Netha (Mrs Lester McKay) of Sharpsburg.

Most of his early life was spent on a farm north of Gravity. In 1947 he moved to Bedford where he spent the rest of his life until the last few months when he lived with his children.

He was preceded in death by his wife who died in 1956, also his father and mother, one sister, Lena French, one brother Herbert Akers, and one great grandson Randy Dean Akers.

He leaves to mourn his two children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, also 3 sisters and 3 brothers, several nieces and nephews and many

friends,

He was a member of the Methodist Church at Sharpsburg.

The funeral was Apr. 26 at Bedford with burial at Gravity.

Bell, Herman C -

Herman C. Bell, son of Martin Luther and Phoebe Brown Bell, was born in Osceola Oct 16, 1873 and departed this life March 19, 1963 at the Creston Hospital.

When a small child he, with his parents, moved to Denver, Colo. His mother died when he was 9 years old. At the age of 17 he and his father traveled by covered wagon to the west coast, living in various places, then settling in San Jose, Calif.

In 1889 he came to Clearfield, to visit his sister Mary Deaver, where he met and married Clara B. Eckels, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Eckels, on July 20, 1898. To this union were born three children, Mrs Ray (Eula) Campbell of Prescott, Martin E. Bell of Des Moines and Darl H. Bell of Creston.

He farmed most of his life in the Stringtown, Lenox and Kent vicinities. His wife died Dec. 12 1951 and his sister Mary Deaver in 1938.

As long as his health would permit, he was active in community and church work. At the time of death he was a member of the Prescott Methodist Church.

He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his immediate family, 8 grandchildren, Donald Campbell of Council Bluffs, Mrs Janice Really of Sacramento, Calif., Duane Bell of Minneapolis, Minn., Dean and Doyle Bell of Des Moines, Galan and Cheryl Bell of Creston, and Richard Bell of the U. S. Navy, stationed in San Diego, Calif., and ten great grandchildren.

One of his outstanding characteristics was his sense of humor, which he retained to the last. He was a kind and loving husband, father and neighbor.

Bladon, Ralph -

Ralph  Bladon of Corning  passed away Mar 20 at Rosary hospital. Services were Saturday at Clearfield. Burial was delayed until Sunday so a daughter, Mrs Frank Santiago of Puerto Rico could be present.  She with her family were delayed by bad weather.

Survivors include his widow, Alice and three daughters: Mrs Joe (Joyce) Uehling, Chehalia, Wash, Mrs Frank (Kay) Santiao, Ramey AFB, Ruerto Rico, and Lynn of Chicago; also 5 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Howard Taylor of Diagonal.

Mr and Mrs Bladon have been living on a farm near Corning. Mrs Bladon is well known here, having worked in Folcey's store for some time, when the family lived near Sharpsburg.

Douglas, David Gilbert -

Gilbert Douglas, 81, retired farmer, died Tuesday morning at the hospital in Creston.  Services will be Thursday at 2 p. m. at the United Presbyterian

church in Lenox with Rev James Eddy officiating.

Survivors: 2 sons, Glen of Lenox, and Donald of Prescott, 3 daughters, Mrs Donald Tully, Mrs Delman Brown, Mrs Harold Beck, all of Lenox; 11 grandchildren

and 15 great grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Lenox cemetery.

Douglas, David Gilbert -

David Gilbert Douglas, oldest son of David and Emmaline McIntyre Douglas, was born Sept 19, 1881, near Burchard, Neb. He came with his parents to

Iowa at an early age and located on a farm south of Corning, later moving to Missouri then back to a farm near Liberty, Neb., which was the family

home. He spent some time with his grandparents and attended Lenox High School, and also the Academy at Pawnee City, Neb.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Alberta Hunt near Burchard on Feb 7, 1906. To this union seven children were born Glen, Earl, Mineva, Deloris,

Bernice, Donald and Beulah Arlene.

Preceding him in death: his wife Mildred in 1945, one daughter Beulah Arlene in 1930 and a son Earl, who passed away last June 23, also one grandson

Lee Clair Douglas, his parents, and four brothers, Earl, Willie, Eara and Meril.

Those left to mourn his passing are his sons, Glen of Lenox, and Donald of Prescott; three daughters, Mineva Tully, Deloris Beck and Bernice Brown,

all of Lenox; 3 daughters-in-law, 3 sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  One niece, Blythe Taylor of Liberty, Neb., several other relatives and a host of friends.

He was a charter member of the Congregational church at Liberty, Neb., and was privileged to attend the 50th anniversary of the church a year ago. He later transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian church at Mission Creek, Neb., where he was an active member and served as elder,

teacher and superintendent.

He moved with his family to Atkinson, Neb., and later to Lenox where he transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian church and where he

spent the remainder of his life. He was a faithful follower of Christ, a great believer in the Word of God, and an ardent worker for the Kingdom of God. He went

to be with his Lord on April 30, 1963.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Lenox United Presbyterian church with Rev James Eddy officiating. Forrest Whipp and Guy Henderson,

accompanied by Norma Paymal sang "In The Garden" and "Ivory Palaces." The pall bearers were Clifford Wurster, Robert Reynolds, Geo Reynolds, Gene Holben,

Lloyd Stream and John Orr. Burial was in Lenox Fairview cemetery.

Filbert, Dorothy M -

Mrs John (Dorothy M.) Filbert, 45, of Sharpsburg, died March 16. The funeral was Mar 19 at the Sharpsburg Presbyterian church, the Rev James Eddy officiating.

Burial was at Gravity. Her husband and five children survive.

Gill, Doris Rose Gray -

Mrs Harold Gill, 63, died at a nursing home at Lenox Saturday afternoon.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday at the Roland funeral home at Corning, Joe Cook officiating. Burial was in Prairie Rose cemetery, south of

Corning.

Mrs Gill is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs Stanley Frey of Denver, Colo.; a son, Donald Gill in California; two  sisters and two brothers.

Henderson, Belle Norris -

Mrs Belle Norris Henderson of Oelwein died there April 16 and was buried in the Lenox Cemetery Friday, April 19. The funeral was at Oelwein Thursday.

Mrs Henderson was the daughter of Will and Sarah Norris and her father was Adams county sheriff for several years. She would have been 87 years old this month.

Her husband, Bert, survives. There are no children. She was a cousin of Mrs Zetta Wilt and Ella Cade.

Johnson, Emil J -

Emil J Johnson, 78, died Monday morning at his home in Chicago, Ill. The body will arrive here Thursday. Graveside services will be Thursday at 3:30 p. m., at the Lenox cemetery with Rev A J Clements officiating.

His wife, the former Edith Sellers, survives. She is a sister of Mrs Branch Toland of Lenox.

Key, Lillian Melville Hyatt -

Services were held Monday at the Bender Funeral Home for Mrs Frank Key, 97, who died Friday in the Creston hospital. Rev David Shaeffer, of the Lenox Christian church officiated at the services. Burial was in Lenox cemetery.

Obituary

Lillian Melville Key, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jeff Hyatt was born Sept 13, 1895 at St Edwards; Neb., and died Mar 29 at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 19 days.  If she had lived until Mar 31 she and her husband would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband and 5 children: Mrs Homer Miller, Lenox; Kenneth Key, Red Oak; Melvin Key, Atlantic; Mrs Allen Trexler, Lincoln, Neb.; and Reldon Key, Lenox; 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Ralph Wlley, Kenosha, Wisc.

At an early age she united with the Blue Grove Christian church and remained a faithful Christian. She was kindly, neighborly woman who enjoyed visiting with her friends, and was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need.

Her family testify for a sacrificial mother whose first thought was for her husband, her children, her grandchildren and family.

Music at the funeral was by Rolland Buxton and Mrs R E Bender. Pall bearers were Donald Butler, Melvin Davis, Allen Trexler, Homer Miller, George Key and Clyde Belding.

Kirkman, William Alexander -

Graveside services were held here Thursday for Bill Kirkman, 74, the Rev A J Clements officiating. Mr Kirkman had lived in Lenox most of his life but had recently moved to Glenwood, Ark., where he owned a residence.

OBITUARY

William Alexander Kirkman was born to Robert and Katherine Kirkman Aug 22, 1888 near Sharpsburg, Taylor County, la. As he grew up, he attended country school. He was from a family of eleven children.

He was married to Viola Arnold of Creston, Oct 15, 1913. To this union two daughters, Dorothy and Geneva were born.

Mr Kirkman sold his home in Lenox last October and went to Arkansas to make his home. On April 14, 1963 he had a heart attack and died April 21, 1963 in St Joseph hospital, Hot Springs, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his, wife Viola on Feb 4, 1930. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Mrs Dorothy Hiatt of Martinsdale, la., and Mrs Geneva Quinn of Lenox, one sister, Mrs Julia Hance of Creston, one brother Dewey of Lenox, two sons-in-law, nieces arid nephews and his friends.

Manroe, M Claude -

Mrs Earl Hudson received word Wednesday, Mar 27 that her brother, M Claude Manroe, 86, had passed away in the hospital at Sweetwater, Tex. He had been ill with cancer for many months.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs Joe Manroe and lived here during his childhood. He went to Texas as a young man and remained there the rest of his life. He has visited here many times through the years.

Mr Manroe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Rolla Manroe.

His survivors, other than his sister, Alta Hudson, include his wife and his sister-in-law, Wadie Seibert Manroe of Sweetwater, a niece, Virginia Hudson Banton of Des Moines and a nephew, Keith Manroe of Houston, Tex; also several grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial were Friday afternoon at Sweetwater.

Mrs Hudson is the last surviving member of her family. Several cousins live in Lenox.

Pinckney, Carrie Wolfe Richey -

Graveside services will be held here Friday at 11 a. m. for Mrs Carrie Pinckney who died Monday at Lebanon, Mo. She formerly lived in this vicinity

and was a sister of the late Mrs Sam Wainwright. She was the widow of Del Richey of Sharpsburg and later married Mr Pinckney and lived in Phillipsburg, Mo.

Pullman, Lillie May Nixon -

Mrs Lillian Pullman, 87, died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Yount in Osceola.  She was a sister of the Nixon family and Ruth

Boltinghouse.  Her husband died in 1939.

Services were Thursday at Osceola.  Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Pullman, Lillie May Nixon -

Lillie May Nixon, daughter of Hugh and Mary Catherine Jopling Nixon, was born at Barclay, Illinois, on, September 27, 1875, and passed away, after a

prolonged illness, at her home in Osceola, Iowa, on May 4th, 1963 at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 7 days. She was carefully attended during her

final weeks by her daughter, Mary, her son-in-law, Clarence, and her daughter-in-law, Grace.

As a child, Lillie moved with her parents to their farm home near Lenox, Iowa. Here she grew to womanhood, receiving her education in the public

schools of this community.

On November 10, 1897, she was united in marriage with Eugene Henry Pullman of Lenox. To this union five children were born, one of whom Henry Hugh passed

away in infancy.

Mrs Pullman has been a member of the Osceola Methodist Church for several years. In her earlier years, before health prevented, she was very active

in the work of the church. She was very devoted to her home and family, and faithfully employed her skills as mother and home-maker in the interests of

those of her household. She was very fond of flowers and found great joy in working with growing things.

Mrs Pullman was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Henry; her infant son, Henry Hugh; two grandchildren, Marilee Anne Pullman and George

William Pullman; her parents, Mr and Mrs Hugh Nixon; three brothers and three sisters; and one daughter-in-law, Laura Marguerite Pullman.

She is survived by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Clarence (Mary) Yount of Osceola, Iowa; three sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev.

and Mrs E. LeRoy (Grace) Pullman, of Silver City la., Mr and Mrs George N. (Ilene) Pullman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mr and Mrs Ralph W. (Ruby) Pullman

of Des Moines, two brothers, William Nixon of Lenox, and Thomas Nixon of Chamberlain, South Dakota; three sisters, Miss Emma Nixon, Miss Isabel Nixon,

and Mrs Ruth Boltinghouse, all of Lenox, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces; and a large circle of devoted friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Webster Funeral Home at Osceola, conducted by the Reverend George C.

Pennington of Osceola. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery in Lenox.

Rice, Minnie Blanche Minnick -

Minnie Blanche, daughter ofJesse and Laura Minnick, was born in Ringgold County, Iowa, near Mt Ayr on Nov 15, 1898, and departed this life on April 26, 1963 at Rosary hospital in Corning at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 11 days.

On April 20, 1916, she was united in marriage to Douglas A Rice. Six children were born to them. They are Mrs Opal Goodale, Diagonal, Lewis of Lenox; Paul of Corvallis, Ore.; Mrs Charlotte Cunning, Mt Ayr; Mrs Betty Brooks, Mendota, Ill.; and Mrs Jorene Rankin of North Platte, Neb.

She is survived by all her immediate family which includes her husband, six children, 10 grand children, and two great grandchildren, also one brother,

Lee Minnick of Mt Ayr, and one sister, Mrs Zelphia Morris of Corvallis, Ore., plus a large family of additional relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

All her life was spent in the vicinities of Elston, Mt. Ayr, Clearfield, Lenox and nearby small towns with the exception of 2 years spent in Brush, Colo.

Everyone knew her as a most busy and energetic person throughout all her life with the exception of the last three months.

Her chief interest was her family's welfare, especially the grandchildren.

Words cannot express how much she is already being missed. Our only consolation being that her earthly body is released from its not infrequent severe suffering.

Services were conducted from Rhoades Funeral home in Mt Ayr with Rev Howard Wakelin of the Christian church in charge. Casket bearers were Dan and Merritt Minnick, Hyatt Rice,, Harold Schroeter, Clinton Rice and Howard Rice. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery at Mt Ayr.

Robinson, Harry F -

Harry F Robinson, 72, died at his home in San Francisco, Cal. The body will arrive at the Bender Funeral Home Wednesday night. His late parents, George S and Frances Robinson, were former residents of Lenox.

Survivors: One daughter and 1 sister, Miss Nona Robinson, of Omaha.

Rosary will be said at 8 p. m., Thursday at the Bender Funeral Home, with Mass Friday at 10 a. m. at St Patrick's church, Father Stephen Kane officiating.

Burial will be in the St Patrick's cemetery.

Stapleton, Elmer -

Elmer Stapleton of Burlington died Tuesday afternoon at Iowa City. Funeral services and burial will be Thursday at Burlington.  He leaves two brothers, Tom of Peoria, Ill., and Walter of Lenox; also 2 sisters, Mrs Howard Sprague of Lenox and Mrs Alice Wynn of Corning.

Teatsworth, Agnes Ellen Conwell -

Mrs Agnes Teatsworth, 75, died Saturday morning at the Lenox Nursing Home. Her husband, Arthur, preceded her in death.

Survivors Include 2 sons Homer of  Lenox, Emmett of Washington state; 1 daughter, Mrs Robert McCain of Omaha, and a number of grandchildren.

Rosary was said Monday at the Bender Funeral Home.

Services were Tuesday at 10 a. m. at St Patrick's church with Father Stephen Kane officiating. Burial was in Lenox cemetery.

Teatsworth, Agnes Ellen Conwell-

Agnes Ellen Teatsworth, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo. Conwell of Grand River, la,, was born June 28, 1887. She passed away March 30, 1963 at the age of 75 years and 9 months at Lenox, la.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Teatsworth Nov 25, 1915 at Shenandoah, la. To this union 3 children were born: a daughter, Mrs Helen McCain of Omaha; two sons, Homer of Lenox and Emmett of Olympia, Wash.

They lived on a farm at Shenandoah for twenty years. In 1963 they moved to Lenox.

She is survived by her three children, two sisters, Mrs Fay Macy of Osceola, and Marie Conwell of Evanston, Wyo. Seven grandchildren and seven great children.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away June 2, 1961, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held April 2 at St Patrick's church in Lenox. Father Stephen Kane officiated. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.
