Delaney, Martha Jones -

The remains of Mrs. Martha Delaney, 80, of Spokane, Wash., former Lenox resident, were interred at the Lenox cemetery at 4 p. m., last Wednesday. Rev. E. J. Strong of Creston officiated at the graveside service. She died June 8. The officers of Salome chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lenox, gave the Eastern Star burial service at the grave. Mrs. Delaney was a past grand officer and was a life member of the OES from Idaho.

Mr. and Mrs. Delaney were former residents of Lenox, leaving here in 1887. She was the former Martha Jones, daughter

of D. D. Jones, pioneer residents of Lenox.  Survivors are her husband, James, of Spokane, and a niece, Mrs. Ben Reimer, of Lenox.

Follis, James -

Salem friends of James Follis of Modesta, Calif., received the sad news recently of his passing away on Jan. 7 at the age of 71 years, after a lingering illness of a year or more. He is survived by his wife, Lena and a son Donald L ; also two grandchildren, Carole and Cathryn of Modesta.  He is survived by one brother, Ed, one sister, Mamie Link of Modesta and Ann Ramsey of Reedley, Calif. A sister Edna preceded him in death. Thirty eight years ago Jim moved to Modesta. Before that time he was a resident of Salem. His father was a minister of the Salem church.

Gold, Pink -

Pink Gold passed away Monday morning after a lingering illness of three months. Funeral services were at the Methodist

church on Wednesday with burial in Gravity cemetery.

Hamm, Charles –

Robert Todd, 54, a former employee at the county home at Conway, was charged Sunday night with murder in the death

of Charles Hamm, 92, a patient at the home. Sheriff Harry Lucas said Hamm died early Sunday after allegedly having

been beaten Saturday. Todd was arrested at Ft. Dodge.  The murder warrant was issued in the court of Justice of the Peace, Ed Beard. Coroner Earl Stone said an autopsy showed Hamm had suffered four broken ribs, one of which punctured the pleural cavity.

The sheriff was called to the home Saturday night by Barbara Deardorff, a woman's ward  assistant. Lucas said the woman

reported patients had told her that Todd had tied Hamm to a bed and beat him with a wet towel and fists.

Todd and his wife came to  the home from Ft. Dodge about two months ago. She was a cook and he was a ward man,

helping with the 42 patients.  They were in charge of the home during a two day absence of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ratekin, the regular caretakers. Todd was discharged by Ratekin Sunday. The sheriff said that Todd had apparently been drinking.

Hargin, Eva Warner -

Mrs. Bruce Hargin, a former resident of near Clearfield, died Jan. 4 at the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda at the age of 69

years. She was married in 1905 to Bruce Hargin. In 1926 they adopted a daughter Lorraine. Following the death of Mr. Hargin Sept. 25, 1951 Mrs. Hargin and Lorraine moved to New Market, la. She is survived by the daughter. Funeral rites and burial were in Clarinda. Attending from Clearfield were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hargin, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. W. Boltinghouse.

Harvey, James Gerald –

James Gerald Harvey, 51, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Harvey met death Monday June 29 evening at Plattsmouth,

Nebraska. He spent the younger part of his life in Clearfield and was married to Miss Lola Stephens who with a son Marvin

of Lincoln and a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Lutes survives, also a twin sister, Mrs. Vera Elliott of Kansas City and a niece, Miss Beverly Bowman of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents and a little daughter. Funeral services and burial were in Mt. Ayr Thursday at 3 p.m. Services were also held previously Thursday in Lincoln.

Johnson, Emma -

Word has been received of the death of a former well known lady of Clearfield, Mrs. Emma Johnson, 90 years of age on May 30^th at her home in Creston, Iowa. Mrs. Johnson operated the first millinery store in Clearfield. Mr. Johnson died

in 1918. She is survived by son Rolla Johnson of Denton, Texas, three daughters. Miss Alma Johnson and Mrs. Joe Mickey of Creston and Mrs. U S  Jordon of Omaha. She was also a sister of the late Mrs. Martha Bentley and Mrs. Mary Reed.

Funeral was held Tuesday in Creston and burial was at Clearfield.

McEniry, William J. –

Funeral services for William J. McEniry, 74, who died Saturday Jan. 24 were at the Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic church at Falls City, Neb., with burial there.

Mr. McEniry was born Dec. 15, 1878 at Rock Island, Ill.  When a child he moved with his parents to Lenox and graduated from the high school here in 1896.  He attended college at Atchison, Kan., and taught school for a time in this community.

Mr. McEniry was a veteran of World War I and had lived in Nebraska since 1917. Feb. 9, 1926, he married Mary Fierbaugh. He was an assistant county assessor for 15 years and of late had been a salesman for a chemical company. He had served as Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and held other offices in the organization.

Besides his widow, he leaves three brothers, Frank of Milwaukee, Gregory of Barboo, Wisc., Eugene of Creston and two sisters, Misses Marie and Josephine of Creston.

Friends and relatives were saddened Saturday a.m. to learn of the sudden death of Chauncey Moore at the veterans hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held, at the Christian church Tuesday p.m. with Masonic and military honors. Burial was in Gravity cemetery.

Palmer, Michelle Loree -

Michelle Loree Palmer, infant daughter of Barbara E. and Charles J. Palmer, was .born September 5, 1952 in Centerville,

Iowa, and died February 15, 1953, at the age of 5 months and 10 days, after a short illness.  In her short stay here, her sunny disposition, her cheery smile, and sweet laughter captured the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother and father, two sisters Claudia and Kathryn, one brother, Marion, her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Peltier of Lenox, and her paternal grandmother Mrs. Marion Palmer of Akron, Ohio, besides a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church at Clearfield, conducted by Rev. C, F, Huffman. Burial was in Clearfield cemetery.

Attending the funeral of Mrs Lola Rteece In Winfield on Sunday were three of her brothers and their wives from Clearfield, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Owens, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Owens and Mr and Mrs. C. Owen.  There are also surviving two other brothers,  Ed Owens, Lenox, and Earl Owens of Winfield, and three sisters. Delia Herrlck, Nellie Moyers and Jennie Campbell of Wapello, Iowa.

Lenox friends received word Saturday evening of the death of Rev. D. S. Sharpe of Kirkwood, Ill. He and Mrs. Sharpe

were dinner guests of Hattie Henderson March 19. They had spent the winter at Long Beach, Calif. Funeral services were held April 22 at the First U. P. church at Monmouth, Ill. Mrs. Sharpe will be remembered as Miss Gertie Martin of Lenox;.

Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, 79, of Clarinda [Cromwell?] died Sunday at the home of her brother, Ray White near Diagonal. One other brother, M. White, survives. She was an aunt of Clyde and Guy Horton. Last rites were Wednesday in Cromwell.

Waugh, William Fred –

Marvin Dale, 14, and William Fred, 13, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Waugh of Stewartsville, Minn., met their death

Saturday, June 20 by drowning in a gravel pit nearby. Mr. and Mrs. Cline Waugh of Afton are grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. John Wall of Clearfield the great grandparents. Funeral services were held June 23 at the Methodist church with burial in the Woodlawn cemetery. Attending the services from Clearfield were Mr. and Mrs. Otis Wall, Orville Wall, Mr. and Mrs. L. Banks Wilson and Mrs. H. Schoenhair from Creston.
