Edward Amick, 72, died at his home in Blockton, March 1st. The body was brought to the Crew Funeral Home in Clearfield. Two daughters, Mrs. Harlan Campbell and Mrs. Rue Minor of Blockton survive. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 P. M. Burial in Redding cemetery.

Bacon, Effie Kilgore -

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Newburn and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Newburn attended the funeral of Mrs. Frank Bacon in Tingley, Saturday. Burial was in Cromwell. Mrs. Bacon was Effie Kilgore born Feb. 11, 1891, at Clearfield.

 

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Helen Baker of Kellerton and Mildred Cheek of Tingley, eight

grandchildren, four brothers, Glenn, Chas., Jesse and James Kilgore. She was the niece of Mrs. Chas. Newburn.

Mrs. Frankie Clement who has been seriously ill passed away at her home here [Gravity] Saturday morning.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Christian Church.

Crane, Geo. -

Geo. Crane, a former resident of the Clearfield community, died at his home in Huntington Beach, Calif., July 26 at the age

of 80 years.

 

He was married to Delia Wentzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Wentzel of Clearfield, and moved to a farm southeast of Clearfield, where they lived for many years until they moved to California.

 

To this union were born one son, S. J., and three daughters, Anna Graham, Mary Geisler and Flotell Geisler.

 

Mr. Crane was an industrious farmer and followed with keen interest all developments connected with the production of

the land as long as his health permitted.

 

He is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters, two sisters, one brother, other relatives and many friends.

 

A sister, Mrs. Alice Grant, and a nephew, W. B. Rood, live in Clearfield.

 

Funeral services and burial were at Huntington Beach on July 29, 1950.

Eckels, Samuel –

Samuel Eckels, 82, who was born on an Adams county farm north of Lenox and lived in this community most of his life, died on May 10th at his home in Clearwater, Florida.  Funeral services and burial were in Florida.  Mr. Eckels was an uncle of Warren [?] of Lenox.

Samuel Eckels, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Eckels was born in Adams county on Dec. 31, 1867 and died May 10, 1950 at the home of his daughter, Edna Bulls at Clearwater, Fla.

 

He was married in 1897 to Maude Hunter, who preceded him in death in 1924; also eight brothers, William, Lafe, Tom, John Phillip, George, Alec and Daniel and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Catlett and Mrs. Erma Noerringer.  He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edna Bulls.

Ford, Mary -

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 9 a. m. at St. Edward's church in Afton for Mrs. Mary Ford, 70, who died Monday at the Creston hospital. Interment in the Corning cemetery.  Surviving are four sons: Leo, of Lenox, Carl and. Ed of Tingley, Frank of Springfield, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Miller of Omaha, Nebr.; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Goff, Vernal -

Vernal Goff, born 52 years ago on a farm southeast of Clearfield, died in the Kansas City, Kans. hospital on Saturday,

April 29.

 

When he was just a youth, the family moved to Ottawa, where he received his education and grew to manhood. He was married to Ethel Jones, who survives. Also two brothers, Harley Goff of Ottawa, Kans. and Reed Goff of Williamsburg, Kans., arid one sister, Mrs. Villa Canny of Clearfield, remain to cherish his memory.

 

Last rites were held in Ottawa, May 2, and burial in Princeton, Kans. Mrs. Lulu Parish and Mrs. Lena Fitch of Clearfield attended the funeral. Mrs. Villa Canny who had spent they last three weeks there with her brother, returned home Wednesday with her daughters.

Grace, Bill –

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clute attended the funeral of Bill Grace at Clearfield on Friday afternoon.  Mr. Grace died in Toledo, Ohio, and the daughter, Mrs. George Clute, accompanied the body to Clearfield for burial.

Haering, Anna Annis Hodges -

Anna Annis Hodges, eldest daughter of Lewis C. and Laura Walcott Hodges, was born July 31, 1874 at Terra Haute, Ill., and passed away at the break of day May 3, 1950.

 

In 1882 they came to Iowa and settled on a farm six miles southwest of Lenox.  After attending rural schools in Grove township, she attended State Normal College at Shenandoah, Iowa, later teaching school for 4 and a half years. 

 

As Miss Hodges, she confessed Christ on October 16, 1890 in the Blue Grove Christian church. About 1891 she transferred her membership to the Lenox Christian church and has been a faithful member for nearly sixty years, teaching the Loyal Women's Bible Class for many years and a member of the Missionary Society since 1913.

 

On May 5th, 1896, she was united in marriage to John Haering at Bedford, Iowa. They established their home on the

same farm where they have lived for the past 54 years. Four children came to bless this union, Clarence at home,

Edith Nixon and Alice Preston of Lenox and Helen, who preceded her mother in death at 1915 at the age of 9. Her parents a sister, Elgin Franklin and a brother, Simpson Hodges passed on before her.

 

One sister, Mrs. Mabel Bruington, lives in Springfield, Oregon. Surviving are her husband, son and two daughters, six

grandsons, Dale, Robert and Ray Nixon, Norman, Carroll and Lowell Preston and one granddaughter, Geneva Hagee. Also

six great grandchildren, Mary Dale and Mark Nixon, John Steven and Kathy Preston, Jon and Mark Preston.

 

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 6, at the Church of Christ, with Rev. Merwin Coad officiating. Interment in

Lenox cemetery. Pallbearers were the six grandsons: Norman Preston, Dale Nixon, Carroll Preston Robert Nixon, Ray Nixon and Lowell Preston. Music was furnished by Mrs Floyd Boltinghouse and Rolland Buxton.

Hardin, Wesley A. -

Word was recently received in Clearfield of the death of a former [Clearfield] resident, Rev. Wesley A. Hardin on July 26. Funeral and burial were in Spokane, Wash.

 

He is survived by his wife, the former Sadie Harvey, three daughters and four sons, one sister, Fannie Abraham, Tulsa,

Okla., two brothers, Sam Hardin of Aberdeen, S. Dak. and Grover Hardin of Des Moines.

 

He will not only be greatly missed by his family but by the churches which he had served so faithfully.

Mrs. W. J. Kilbey received word last week of the death of her brother, S. J. Hockabout, age 79 of Denver, Colo. General hospital.  Services and burial were at Ft. Morgan. Colo.

Holland, Myrtle Irene Gibson -

Mrs. Myrtle Irene Holland daughter of Frank and Mary Gibson was born May 13, 1893 in Lancaster, Mo. and passed

away at her home in Lenox on May 2, 1950 at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 19 days.

 

On Sept. 16, 1909 she was united in marriage to George A Holland. To this union two sons were born, Lawrence E. of

Union Grove, Wis., and Wilbur G. of Lenox. She is survived by her husband, two sons, eight grandchildren, one brother

Wm. T. Gibson of New Castle, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Jane Marshall of Kelseyville, Calif., and Mrs. Julia Hill of Lancaster,

Mo., and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 4, at the Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Merwin Coad officiating. Interment in Lenox cemetery.

Jarvis, Laura Belle Parkinson -

Laura Belle Parkinson, daughter of Francis and Nancy Parkinson, was born in Taylorville, III., July 16, 1871, and

passed from this life Aug. 7, 1950 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert Lyddon in Clearfield, age 79 years and 22 days.

 

When but a little child, her parents died and the children grew up in homes of relatives, Laura coming to the home of

Mr. and Mrs. J. Jarvis near Goshen, Iowa. On May 31, 1887 she was united in marriage to Simon A. Jarvis. They lived on

a farm south of Diagonal until 1399 when they moved to Clearfield.

 

Mrs. Jarvis was a member of the Christian church and an active member of the [?] and W. R. C. organizations as long as health permitted.  She was always interest in her home and the welfare of her family and enjoyed the friendship of her neighbors.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband and five children. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Edna and

son-in-law Bert Lyddon, three grandsons and three great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held on Aug. 9 at the R. Crew Funeral Home with interment in the Bethel cemetery.

Lane, Almira Baker -

Almira Baker, daughter of R. B. and Charlotte Baker, was born Feb. 10, 1885 near Clearfield, Iowa, and passed away at

her home in east Clearfield on Jan. 18, 1950 at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 8 days.

 

On Oct. 17, 1917 she was tinted in marriage to Reuben Lane of Clearfield and have made it their home.  To this union were born three children, two daughters, Nioma Gaule of Clearfield, Beulah Wilson of Council Bluffs and one son, Donovan who is now serving in the Marine Corp at Oceanside, Calif.

 

She was a consistent member of the Christian Church, having confessed her faith in Christ in 1900. She was a kind

and loving wife and mother, always faithful to her family.

 

Besides her husband and children, she is survived by four grandchildren, Gary Lynn and Deanna K. Gaule, Larry Lee and

Dennis L. Wilson, also four brothers, Frank and Ed Baker of Clearfield, Horace Baker of Beaconsfield, and Ralph Baker of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Olive Nelson and Anna Groves of Clearfield. One sister, Eunice Baker, preceded her in

death on April I8, 1939.

 

Funeral services were held on Jan. 20 at the Christian Church and burial was in the Clearfield cemetery.

Mrs. Ida Posten passed away at 12:25 P.M. Monday at her home in Gravity.  She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Chandler of Arlington, Virginia and Gertrude Posten at home, besides grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Gravity Christian Church and burial in Gravity cemetery.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 29th, at Mount Ayr for George Richardson, age 78, a retired farmer who died

in the Leon hospital Thursday morning. He was the father of Mark Richardson near Clearfield.

Shaw, Gracia Dockstader -

Miss Etta Shafer has received word of the passing of her cousin, Gracia Dockstader Shaw of Oakland, Calif., who died suddenly on her way to a hospital having suffered a heart attack on Jan. 4. Mrs. Shaw was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Eva Shaw

Barrans of Lenox. Her husband preceded her in death as the result of a heart attack 19 years ago in Oakland. No children

were born to this union.

 

The late Mr. and Mrs. Shaw left Lenox more than 40 year ago to make their home in California.

Smith, Charles Dixon -

Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Dixon and Charlie Smith visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Smith at Grimes on Friday.  They were called there by the death of their nephew, Charles Dixon Smith, 18, who died at the Methodist hospital Friday

at 11 a. m., as a result of an auto collision at a gravelled intersection near Johnson. Funera1 services were held Monday at 1:30 at the Dunn Funeral Home in Des Moines with Mr. and Mrs. Dixon in attendance.

Funeral services for Virgel Stamper were held at Creston Presbyterian Church 2:30 Tuesday August 22nd. Interment

was in Clearfield Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, the former Lena Allen and one daughter Virginia, two brothers,

June Stamper of Creston and Grant Stamper of Diagonal, also one sister Opal Stamper of Diagonal and  other relatives and many friends.
