Mrs. Mary
Lowe, 83, a former resident of Gravity, passed away September 24, at the
hospital in Iowa Falls. She was a sister of the late Dr. Reed and grandmother
of the former Evelyn Morley. Her daughter, Mrs. Vance Kimsey resides in Iowa Falls.

Lupner, Gladys Beamer -
Clearfield
received the sad news Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Earl Lupher of Tingley in a Meadville, Pa., hospital on Aug. 20th where she had been taken only the day before. She was 51 years of age and was
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dora Beamer. She was married to Earl Lupher of Tingley and to this
union one son, Robert, was born. She was preceded in death by her father and
one brother, Cecil.
Surviving
are her husband and son, her mother one sister, Mrs. Hazel Keith of Windom,
Minn., and one half-brother, John Z. Beamer
of Des Moines.
Funeral
services and burial was on Aug. 23 in Tingley, Iowa

Madden,
W. K. -
W. K.
Madden, 83, passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Saturday at
8:30 p. m. He fractured his left hip on June 5th while visiting at the home of
his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Karl McCulloch in Des Moines.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Methodist church here with Rev.
Harold Butts officiating. Interment in Fairview cemetery,
with the Barber Funeral Home in charge. Survivors: his wife Edna of
Lenox; his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Karl McCulloch, and one grandson, Karl II, all of Des Moines;
four sisters, Mrs. Nell Borland, Creston; Mrs. Ollie Estel,
Falls City, Neb., Mrs. Laura McClintock, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Clara Cresswell, Creston. One daughter, Mildred, and one brother
preceded him in death. Will was the oldest of his family.
He was
born September 22, 1867, in Platte township, Union
county. He moved to Platte township, Taylor county when he was seven years of age. He worked in the store of his father and later
for Meagher and Maloney for six and one-half years, 1884 to 1890. Then he vent
into partnership with J. H. Humphrey in the grocery and
queensware business. He went into
business for himself in 1896.
He
operated his grocery and general store for 49 years. He sold the store and went
into the Lenox First National Bank as president in 1934, retiring in 1947.
He was
married to Edna Childs, April 24, 1896. He was township clerk at the age of 21
and was a member of the school board when the present school building was
erected. Mr. Madden served as town councilman or six years and was a member if
the Council when the Municipal Light Plant was built. Following this he served
as Mayor
of Lenox four years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Mr.
and Mrs. Madden enjoyed 56 years of married life together.
Mr.
Madden served as Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge No. 343, A. F. and A.
M. for four years, also serving as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star here for
six years. He was 53 years a Mason and 53 years an Eastern Star.
On
Thursday evening, September 16, 1946, the Masonic Lodge
here
honored its eldest active member, W. H. Madden, who had been a member of the
Masonic Lodge No. 343 A. F. and A. M. since he was first initiated into the
organization 50 years before, so that was his golden year of Masonry. He was
awarded a 50 year certificate. He was active in the organization of Knights of Pythias Lodge here
for some years and was a member of the organization until it
disbanded.
Being
the senior businessman of Lenox, he watched the town grow from the early days,
and as one of the prominent citizens of the community was loved and respected
by all.

Madison, Lillie P. Hewitt –
Lillie P.,
third child of James and Elizabeth Hewitt, was born April 9, 1880 near Morning
Sun, Iowa and passed away July 17, 1951 at the Creston hospital of a heart
attack following ten days during which
time she was ill with pneumonia.
She
moved when a small child to Adams county with her parents.
She
attended Sunday school and church services at the Prairie Star Presbyterian
church.
On
Nov. 20. 1893, she was married to Luther Edward Madison, who
preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1950. Two of their children died in infancy,
and a daughter. Bernice, the wife of Harold Shaeffer,
passed
away in October, 1930, having four children. Mr. and Mrs. Madison made a home for
these grandchildren until they were grown. They are, namely: Thressa Willy of Portland. Ore Daxlene Ricker of Diagonal, Lowell Shaeffer of Tingley and Bobby Shaeffer of
Diagonal, at whose home Mrs. Madison had spent, the last few months of
her life. Also surviving are a son, Clete and wife and
three
daughters of California: a brother, Charles Hewitt of Lenox; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Nisely of Villisca and Mrs. Lizzie Stewart of Hurnansville, Mo.; a half-sister, Mrs. Pearl Maharry of Clearfield; a step-brother, John Thompson of
Lenox, besides nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral
services were held at the Rhoades Funeral Home in Mount Ayr,
with interment beside her husband in Mt. Zion cemetery north of Prescott.

Manoquist,
Arthur Edward –
A.E. Manoquist, 67, who resided seven miles northeast of Lenox,
died while attending a Farm Bureau meeting at the Stringtown church Sunday evening. Death was
attributed to a heart attack. Surviving are his wife, Lotus, and two sons.
Funeral
services were held today (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m. at the Stringtown church with graveside services and burial at Red Oak.

Arthur Edward –
Arthur
E. Mainquist, son of Andrew and Christine Mainquist
was born May 2, 1884 south of Red Oak, lowa. He was
married
on January 26. 1910 to Bessie Emelia Olson who passed
away
Feb.
17, 1923. On May 5, 1944, be was married to Lotus E. Taylor,
Nodaway,
Iowa, who survives him.
Mr. Mainquist spent the greater part of his life on a farm
south of Red Oak. In 1940 he purchased a farm near Lenox were he resided until
his death. He made many friends. He was
regular in attendance and active in his church. He was a congenial and helpful
neighbor. He participated in the Farm Bureau activities, was a member of the Red
Cross county board and was always interested in any civic affairs wherever he
lived.
Mr. Mainquist was a member of the Stringtown Federated church where he passed awhile taking an active part in the church
program.
In
addition to his wife, Lotus he is survived by his two sons Vernon E. of Red
Oak, Iowa and Paul A. and wife Bette of Trenton, N. J.; three sisters Mrs. Joel Lungren, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Nathan Lungren,
Griswold, and Mrs. Bernard Scaburg, Red Oak; other
relatives and a host of friends.
A sister, Anna, and a brother, William,
preceded him in death.
Services
were conducted at the Stringtown Federated church,
Thursday, May 10, at 1:30 p. m. by Dr. Guy J. Fansher of Red Oak and at Bethlehem Lutheran church, Red Oak, on Thursday, May 10 at
3:30 p. m. by Rev. Frank Carlson. Music was furnished by Rolland
Euxton with Mrs. Norma Paymal at the piano. The pallbearers were Haiold Smith, Glen Windom, Joe
Brown, Allen Pine, Fred Stillinger, Harold Rundlett, Roy Bush and Harry Miller, Interment was made in Evergreen
cemetery, Red Oak.

Matheny, age 82, passed away at 12:30 a. m. Wednesday

Matheny,
Josiah Harrison “Harry”
-
Josiah
Harrison Matheny, son of John and Mary Jane Matheny, was born at Mineral Springs,
Ohio, Nov. 8, 1868 and passed away at the home of his son, Joseph Matheny of Blockton, June 6, 1951, at the age of 82 years, 6 months
and 28 days.
He was
the second child of a family of 14 children. He came west with his parents when
about 12 years of age and settled close to Creston, Iowa. From there the family
moved to Platteville, Iowa,
where he farmed in the vicinity all his life.
Mr.
Matheny was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Reeves at the home of her parents
in Platteville on Dec. 17, 1891. Nine children were born to this-union: Joseph,
Wilbur, Paul, John, Ruby Smith and Amy Stewart, all of Blockton,
James of Bedford and Claude of Lenox. Two sons, Wilbur and John, preceded their
father in death.
Mr.
and Mrs. Matheny celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary
Dec.
17, 1950. Besides his loving and faithful wife he leaves to mourn, his
departure his children, one brother, Albert Matheny ot
Blockton,
three sisters, Myrta Cubbage of Kansas City, Mo., Leticia Templeton of Creston, and Mary Ewart of Blockton. He also leaves 39 grandchildren, 39
great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was
a kind and loving husband and father, one among the best that ever lived and was
always ready to lend a helping hand to others. He was kind to all who knew him.
As one has said of him, "I just can't praise him enough." He was a
hard working man all his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all
those who knew him

Evelyn Kinser -
Funeral
services were held at the Arnold Funeral Home on Tuesday at 2:30 p. m., for
Mrs. Evelyn McAdams, 50, of Burlington.
Surviving
is her husband, Bert. She was the former Evelyn Kinser,
and was born and raised in the Lenox vicinity. She also lived in Creston a few
years before moving to Burlington.

McCreight, Nannie Henry -
Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer McCreight of Clearfield received word
this
week of the death of Mrs. Clarence McCreight at her home
in
Sterling, Kansas., on July 20th, after a year's illness. Mrs.
Mc-
Creight was the former Nannie Henry and spent the early part
of her life near Lenox. She is survived by her husband, one son and one daughter,
two grandchildren, two brothers, Presley and James, and one sister Mrs. Bessie
Ball.
Mr.
and Mrs. MeCreight had observed their golden wedding
anniversary on April 10th of this year.

Mrs.
George McLaury, 76, passed away Monday evening in Bedford,
having not been well for some time. She was the former Ethel Hurley, sister of
Mrs. Clara Haley and the late Walter and Ott Hurley.
Funeral
services were held today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. at the Shum Funeral Home in
Bedford. Besides her sister, Mrs. McLaury is survived
by several children and grandchildren

McLaury, George F. -
Word
was received Saturday by Mrs. Wm. Hofmeister of the
death of her father G. F. McLaury of Bedford, which
occurred
in a St. Joseph hospital. Mr. McLaury was R.F.D. carrier
at one time from Clearfield for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his wife
July 22nd. Surviving are four sons, Wm.,
Robert, Ralph, and Tommy, 3 daughters, Gracie McLaury,
Lola Webb and Mrs. Anna Hofmeister
The
funeral was held at Bedford Monday at 2 p. m. Interment
in Bedford cemetery.

Miller, Allan LeRoy -
Services
were held Monday at 2:30 p. m. at the Bender Funeral
Home
for Allan LeRoy Miller, three-month-old son of. Mr. and
Mrs.
Marvin Miller of near Tingley. The baby died at the Children's
Memorial
hospital at Omaha on Saturday, He had been ill with bronchial pneumonia.
Rev.
Claude W. Risinger was in charge of the service.
Interment
in Fairview cemetery. Pallbearers were
Elvin Miller, Edwin Miler, Charls Brown and Birgil Brown. Survivors: the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Miller, two
sisters, Rita Lorraine and Lillian Marie and one brother, Dennis, all of near Tingley, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron
Brown of Lenox, and the paternal
grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Port Miller of Sharpsburg.
Allan LeRoy was born October 14, 1951, at the Rosary hospital
in Corning, and passed away on January 19, 1952 at the Children’s
Memorial
hospital in Omaha., Neb., at the age of three months and five days.

Miller, Raymond B. -
Raymond
B. Miller, son of Orlando and. Martha Miller, was born at Siam, Iowa, February
3, 1897, and passed away at the University hospital, Iowa City, January 3,
1952.
Mr.
Miller spent his early years near Bedford, Iowa. On June 4, 1919, he was united
in matrimony with Ruby Miller of Bedford, and to this union were born two sons, Raymond Jr. and David. In 1930 Mr. Miller and his family moved
to Lenox, Iowa where he entered the automobile business in which he was later
joined by his son Raymond Jr. Mr. Miller had been in failing health for the
past year. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, one brother and
one sister.
Surviving
are his devoted wife Ruby; his sons Raymond Jr. and
David, and four sisters: Mrs. Blanche Smith, Mrs. Kila Stickelman,
Mrs.
Cleo Perkins and Mrs. Thelma Van Reenan, all of
Bedford, Iowa.
Mr.
Miller had been a. member of the Church of Christ in Lenox
for a number of years. He was a devoted husband and father, giving much of his time
to his home life. He will be greatly missed by a host of neighbors and friends.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Church of Christ on
Saturday,
January 5, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Claude W. Risinger officiating.
Interment
in the Lenox cemetery. Music was furnished by Ruth Boltinghouse, Erskine Blair, Guy Henderson, James Arneal and Paul Davis. Honorary pallbearers were H. M Buchanan, Harold Gustm,
Joe
Brown, Dick Dunbar and Lew E. Copeland. Acting pallbearers
were Glen Leckliter, Francis Folcey,
Earl Kabel, Harlan Grimm, Martin Rechsteiner and Dr. M. J. Sluss.

George W. –
George
W. Mills, 93, a lifelong resident of Washington, county, Arkansas, died there
Dec. 10 [1951] at his home near Wyota. He was born Dec. 23, 1858, the son of John R.
and Katherine Painter Mills. His wife,
the former Susan Kelly, died in 1943.
He is
survived by five sons, James of Lawrence, Kans., Lee of Fullerton, Calif.,
Claude of Carthage, Mo., C. H. of Muskogee, Okla., and Cliff of Wyota, Ark., and a daughter, Mrs. Ada Parker of Pryor, Okla. The deceased was
a cousin of T. J. Chandler of Lenox.
Funeral
services and burial were in Arkansas.

Mills,
Mabel Brown -
Word
has been received here of the death in Wichita, Kans. of Mabel Brown. She was
born m Lenox and upon her marriage to Dr. Mills, M. D., they established a home
at Wichita where her husband operated a sanitarium until his death.
Her
father was Dr. Brown, a physician and surgeon who practiced in Lenox many years
ago and will be remembered by many of our older readers. This daughter, Mrs. Mills, was the
last living member of her family and died at 76 years of age.

Mrs.
Josie Parker Montville, 87, died at the hospital in Jackson,
Minn.,
Tuesday, Oct. 2, and funeral services were held Oct. 5 in Jackson with burial
beside her husband in Pipestone, Minn.
Mrs.
Montville lived in Clearfield the greater part of her life and for some time
was assistant post master with her uncle, H. T. Swope. Funeral services in
Jackson were attended by the following from Clearfield: Mrs. Jas. Gaule, Mrs. P. Gaule, Miss Opal Parkens, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Parkens and family.

Crew was called Thursday evening to the home of Mrs. Bernice Ihrig where her mother Mrs. Sarah Moon, 76 had died. The
body was brought to Clearfield to the funeral
home.
Mrs.
Moon was a life-long resident of Blockton and is
survived
by three daughters, Geraldine Hollingsworth of Peru, Iowa, Mary Walker of Salt
Lake City and Bernice Ihlig, Blockton,
also two sons, George and John Moon, of Blockton and John Moon, of Blockton.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, September 16 at the Christian church in Blockton. Burial was in Blockton.

John
Mosier, 73, a long-time resident of Clearfield vicinity before his moving to
Mount Ayr, died Jan. 9th in Mt. Ayr. In 1908 he was united in marriage to Grace
Moffett of Clearfield.
He
united with the Baptist church early in life. He is survived by his wife, one
son Loren of Humboldt and a daughter, Mildred Putney, of
Des
Moines, and three grandchildren; one brother, Noah, of Nampa, Ida. Funeral services were held on Jan. llth in Mt. Ayr and interment
in the Clearfield cemetery

Death
came unexpectedly on Wednesday evening to Mrs. Joe
Neuhardt,
42, who passed away at Greater Community hospital
in Creston. Death was attributed to diabetes. Surviving are her husband, one son and one daughter.
Funeral
will be held Friday July 20, 15 9:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Church with
burial in Fairview cemetery.

Neuhardt,
Ruth Demarius Hayes -
Ruth Demarius Neuhardt was born at
Lenox, Iowa, Feb. 3, 1909
and passed away at Greater Community hospital in Creston
July
17, 1951. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mort Hayes, both of whom
preceded her in death, as did one sister, Mrs. Blanche Paul.
She
was united in marriage to Joe Neuhardt, Nov. 21,
1932.
To
this union were born two children, Leila and Bill, both at
home.
Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn
her
passing three sisters, Mrs Jim Mullin of Creston,
Mrs. Donald Shaw of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Buryl Lininger of Houston, Texas; also five brothers, Frank Hayes
of Diagonal, Otto Hayes of Lenox, and John, George and Glenn Hayes, all of Creston.
She
was handicapped throughout her life but was always cheerful and uncomplaining
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

services, conducted by Father Adam Reisz with the
Barber
Funeral Home in charge were held Friday, July 20 at 9:30
a. m.
at St. Patrick's church. Interment in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Neuhardt, William -
William Neuhardt was born at Morton, Tazewell county, Illinois,
on May
10, .1879, and passed away at the Municipal hospital in Clarinda, Iowa, at
12:15 p. m. on Friday, August 31, 1951, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 20
days.
He was
the fourth child and only son of Frederick and Isabel
Neuhardt. Three sisters preceded him in death.
On
Dec. 21, 1904 he was united in marriage to Fern Noble of
Aledo,
Ill. To this union five children were born, one of whom preceded him in
death. In March, 1905, he moved to the
Lenox community, where he lived the rest of his entire life.
He
leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Fern, and four children: Clyde of Lenox,
Glenn of Diagonal, Reve Cline of San Leandro, Calif.;
and Leota Steele of Wichita, Kans.; also one sister,
Mrs. Louise Grossman of Eureka, Ill.; six nieces and one nephew and four
grandchild.
Funeral
services, in charge of the Barber funeral home, were
conducted by the Rev. B. F. Hagee of St. Joseph, Mo., on
Monday, Sept. 3. Music was furnished by Mmes. Marcia Bender and Norma Paymal and Mr. Rolland Buxton. Pallbearers were Raymond Purdum, Harold Rundlett, Lester Rundlett, Raymond Trost, Allen
Pine and James Shawler. Interment
in Fairview cemetery.

Harold
Ogle, 60, son-in-law of Mrs. Mary Scott, passed away at the Veterans hospital
in Fayetteville, Ark., Monday night, Oct. 8, after a long illness. He was the
husband of the former Goldie Scott, who survives him. Services and burial were at Anderson, Mo.,
the following Wednesday. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Harding and Mr. and
Mrs. John Nagel.

Mrs.
Lizzie Palmer, mother of Mrs. R. L. Robinson of Clearfield,
passed away Tuesday at Oakland at the age of 88. Two other daughters and three sons

Thursday.
