Jerry Dale
Beach, 7 week old son of Mr and Mrs Bill Beach of Sharpsburg died Sunday
evening at the Rosary Hospital in Corning.
Funeral
services were Tuesday at 2 pm at the Methodist Church in Sharpsburg, Rev Frank
L Greenwood conducting the service. Burial was in the Lenox Cemetery.

Jerry Dale Beach, son of Mr and Mrs Bill Beach of
Sharpsburg, was born December 3, 1958, and passed away at the Corning hospital
on January 18, 1959.
Jerry leaves his parents; Mr and Mrs Bill Beach, two
brothers;
Robert and James Clifford Beach, four sisters; Linda,
Raelene, Kathleen and Susan Beach, one great grandmother; Mrs Mary Ann Page,
two grandmothers; Mrs Eula Beach and Mrs Clifford McLaury, one grandfather, Mr
Clifford McLaury, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Buchanan, Hugh M -
Hugh M.
Buchanan, 79, a well known citizen of Lenox, died at
his home
early Saturday morning. He had been in failing health for some time and
seriously ill for more than two weeks.
Services
were Monday at the Bender Funeral home, the Rev
Robert
Duckett officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.
Mr Buchanan
had been a member of the Federal Land Bank board for this region and served as
its president. He had also been a member
of the Production Credit Association board. He was a former member of the Lenox town council and served two terms on
the Taylor County board of supervisors.
Obituary
Hugh M.
Buchanan was born on July 19, 1879 and passed away
on January
24 1959 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 5 days. He was born on a farm near
Conway, and lived at his home there until 1943 when he moved to Lenox. He was a
lifetime resident of Taylor county.
In 1905 he
was married to Maude L. Bucher. They spent 53 years of their lives together.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, Mr and Mrs Theodore
C. Buchanan,
one sister, Anna Williams, and one son Homer Buchanan who died on November 8,
1944 defending his country in Italy.
The
survivors include his wife, Maude L. Buchanan, one daughter, Mrs Helen Douglas
of Hampton, two sons, Roy of Conway, and T C Buchanan of Lenox; three sisters,
Mrs Edna Brown of Clearfield, Mrs Lois Aitken and Mrs Edith Carlton both of
Bedford, eight grand-children and three great grandsons.
Hugh was
active in many kinds of endeavor during his lifetime, but he will be remembered
for the quiet, dignified way in which he lived, and he will be greatly missed
in this community by all who knew him.

services were last Wednesday at Shenandoah for
Clarence
Eckels, 78 years of age. He was a brother of Mrs Mel Tully and Mrs Carrie
Struwe. Relatives from here who attended the funeral were Mrs Struwe, Mr and
Mrs Mel Tully, Mr and Mrs Homer Pugh, Mr and Mrs Clifford Roudybush and Warren
Eckels.

were held Sunday afternoon at the Bender Funeral Home for Ida Grim, 90, who
died at the Lenox Rest Home Dec. 19. Rev

Obituary
Ida
Grim, daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Grim was born in Green Co. Pa. September
21, 1868. When she was about two years
of age, the family moved to Eureka, Ill. Seven years later they moved to a farm west of Creston. It was there she united with the Christian
Church, later transferring her membership to the Lenox Church, of which she was
a faithful member until her death.
Her
father died in 1894 and her mother in 1916.
In
1893 with her mother and sister Emma, she moved to Lenox where she has since
made her home. The sisters moved to the
Rest Home in 1953. Ida passed away there
Dec. 19.
Of a
family of ten she was the youngest daughter and leaves to mourn one sister Emma
Jane who is a patient at the rest home. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Mrs
Fern Hoskinson, 65, died Tuesday at 8:30 a. m. at her home here. Her husband,
Allen, survives.
Mr and
Mrs Hoskinson are retired farmers from the Cromwell area. They recently moved to Lenox.
Services
are today, Thursday, at the Roland Funeral home at
Corning
with, burial in the Walnut Grove cemetery.
Surviving
children are one son, Allen Jr. (Jack) of Prescott, and two daughters, Mrs
Martha Alves of Kanapolis, Kan., and Mrs Glen Brokaw of Lenox. There are eleven grandchildren.

Effie J Beach -
Relatives
here received word of the death of Mrs Lee D Jacoby
of
Lee's Summit, Mo. She was the former Effie J Beach, daughter of George S and
Luella Beach. Mrs Jacoby was born in Lenox and lived here many years. She is
survived by six children, several grand children two sisters, Mrs Luella
Cottrell of Portland, Oregon; Mrs Nellie Hetz of San Diego, Cal., one
sister-in-law, Mrs Eula Beach,
of
Lenox and many nieces and nephews. Her twin sister preceded
her in
death in 1939.
She
was a faithful member of the O E S and served as Worthy Matron for sometime.
Funeral
services for Mrs Jacoby were held Saturday afternoon
at
Lees Summit. Those attending from here were Mrs Eula
Beach,
Mr and Mrs Bill Beach and Mrs Julian Walter.
Additional
information from Mrs Jacoby's daughter, Mrs
Genevieve
Hawkins of Lee's Summit, states that her parents
moved
from here to Robstown, Tex., in 1912 and then to Missouri
in
1922.
Mr
Jacoby died in1954 and a daughter, Norma Lee in 1911.

Myrtle Jenkins -
Mrs.
Myrtle Kimberly, 77, long time resident of Clearfield, passed away Saturday,
Jan. 3, at 6 p. m. at the Corning hospital.
She
has been in poor health for several months and for the last few weeks had
stayed with her brother and wife, Mr and Mrs George Jenkins, at Lenox, where
she was lovingly cared for until she was taken to the Corning hospital a few
hours before her death.
Myrtle
Jenkins Kimberly, the daughter of Myron M. Jenkins and Mary R. Balis, was born
in Buchanan county, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1881. She attended Northwestern college at
Naperville, Ill. She was united in marriage to Charles Kimberly, living in
Bloomington, Ill.; later they moved to the Clearfield community where she lived
most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1955. Her
brother,
George
Jenkins, a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends mourn her passing.
She
had been a long time member of the Clearfield Methodist
church.
She took an active part in the WSCS holding an important office for many years.
She was a staunch member of the WCTU and active in the MLC organization. She
was always interested in the betterment of civic life. During her last illness
she maintained a
cheerful
and dauntless courage to the end, always thinking of
others.
Death came on Jan 3. She was 77 years, 17 days of age.
Funeral
services were Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Methodist church
at
Clearfield. The Rev Howard Ball officiated. Burial was in the Clearfield
Cemetery.

Mrs Mary
Knox, 85, died at her home in Lenox Sunday evening.
She and her
husband had moved her about two months ago from their farm home near
Clearfield.

services were Tuesday at Clearfield with burial there.

survived by her husband, Howard; two daughters,
Mrs Evelyn
Stephens of Clearfield and Winifred Knox at home; also two grandchildren, Ivan
and Enid Stephens.

Mrs Mary Calkin
Knox, long time resident of Taylor County was born September 14, 1873 at
Hamilton, Ill. She passed away at her
home in Lenox on January 25, 1959 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 11 days. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary
Calkin. At the age of 9 years she came
with her parents to a farm near Conway where she lived until her marriage to
Howard Knox on December 13, 1896.
To this
union were born 4 children. Two sons, Raub and Clifford preceded
their mother in death. Surviving are her husband, two
daughters Mrs Evelyn Stephens of Clearfield and Miss
Winifred Knox of the home, two
grandchildren, Ivan and Enid Stephens: also three brothers, Boyd of Billings,
Mont, Archie and Orlando of
Clearfield and 3 sisters Mrs Dollie Harden of White Hall, Mont.,
Estella Van Houten of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs Hattie Knox
of Clearfield. Three sisters have preceded her in death.
She was a member of Greenwood Church for many years,
transferring her membership to Clearfield Methodist Church
when the Greenwood congregation disbanded. She was a member
of Greenwood Ladies Society attending when ever able. She
will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held January 27, at the funeral home in
Clearfield, Rev Howard Ball officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs Joan Owens,
accompanied by Mrs Vivia Mahoney.
Burial was in Clearfield Cemetery.

Cora Belle Ingels -
Cora
Belle Laughlin, 83, died Wednesday at 8 p. m. at the Lenox
Rest
Home. She was born in Missouri, but had lived most of her life in Taylor
county, the past 18 years in Lenox. She had been at the Rest Home for three
months.
Funeral
Services were Sunday at the Methodist church with
Rev.
Burton C. Collier officiating. Burial was at Bedford.
Cora
Belle Ingels Laughlin, the daughter of Samuel Ingels and
Jane
Coonrod, was born near Clinton in Henry County, Mo.,
June
26, 1875. She moved with her parents
when she was two
to
near Maryville and grew to womanhood there, moving to
Taylor
County In 1910.
On
Sept. 13, 1891, she was united in marriage to Roger Edwin
Laughlin.
They were parents of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband in
1945 and by a son Louis, and a daughter Goldia Smith.
Eight
of her children remain to mourn her passing: Elmer of
Creston;
John of Casper, Wyo.; Lawrence of Englewood, Colo.;
Rob of
Derby, Colo.; Mrs Blanche Watkins of Tarkio, Mo.; Mrs
Ruth
Smith of El Cajon, Cal.; Mrs Jennie Evans, Sharpsburg;
and
Mrs Nina Stapleton of Lenox.
Two
brothers and two sisters also survive: Ben Ingels and Mrs Ed Schooler of
Hopkins, Mo.; Bill Ingels of Maryville, Mo.; and Mrs Myrtle Lincoln of' Marana,
Ariz. Twenty four grandchildren, four
step grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren, other relatives and
friends also mourn her passing.
She
has been a life-long member of the Methodist church, joining when she was 12
years old. The last three years she has been In poor health, suffering a heart
attack on Nov. 20.
Death came
on Dec. 24. She was 83 years, 5 months and 28 days of age.

M. (Lona) McKee, 82, died Friday at the home of her son Gerald at Clarinda.
Funeral services were Monday afternoon

grandchildren.
Mrs
McKee.was a member of the Presbyterian church. She
and her
husband had been married 56 years.

Morris, 76, died Friday morning at his home in Conway.
Funeral services
were Monday Dec. 22, at Bedford with Rev. Ward Campbell of Mt. Ayr

Mr Morris
was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He had worked for Taylor County in
construction for 27 years.
Surviving
are his widow, Cora, one son George of Lenox, a daughter Mrs Freda Boyer of
Wilder, Minn. and three grandchildren.

Jesse Wesley
Morris, son of James Henry and Katharine Caroline West (Morris) was born,
August 30, 1882, in Taylor County, Iowa near Athelstan, and passed away Dec.
19, 1958, in his home in Conway, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 10
days.
He was
united in marriage to Cora L. Godsey, Feb. 28, 1906 at
Bedford,
Iowa. To this union 2 children were born, one son,
George
Henry of Lenox, and one daughter, Freda (Mrs Teddy
Boyer)
of Wilder, Minn.
He is
survived by his wife, son George and daughter-in-law
Ruth,
and 3 granddaughters, one daughter and son-in-law, Teddy Boyer, one brother,
Walter of Parnell, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death, by his father and another, 8 brothers
and
five sisters. He spent his entire life in Taylor county, and the past 23 years
in Conway.
He
joined the Assembly of God church in early life and was a
faithful
believer in God. He was a kind and loving husband and father, always wanting to
help those in need.
Funeral
services were at the Shum Funeral home at Bedford,
Dec. 22,
1958, conducted by the Rev. Ward Campbell of Mt. Ayr Interment was in the
Athelstan Cemetery.

Norton, 62, died of a heart attack at his home in Conway Thursday night. [Jan.
22] Funeral services were Monday afternoon at Bedford with burial in the Conway
Cemetery.
He leaves
his wife, six children, 18 grandchildren and one great grandchildren. He had been an employee on Road Maintenance
for Taylor County for 33½ years. All the
children were at home for the funeral.
Mr Norton
had lived in Conway since 1906 and had been a member of the town council for
more than 20 years.

Word has
been received of the death of Harry Schaub of Compton, Calif. He was the son of Mrs Catherine Schaub and
spent his boyhood in Lenox.
After
serving in World War I he went to California where he lived until his
death. He was buried Oct 20 at Compton.

his wife, a boy Joe of Peoria, Ill., several nieces and nephews and a number of
cousins.

44, died Sunday at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisc. Funeral services were to be Tuesday in
Wisconsin. The body is to be brought to
Creston for burial at Graceland Cemetery. Services will be there at 11 am Thursday Dec. 18.

include his widow, Esther, two children, Andy and Anita, a brother Harold Beck
and three sisters, Mrs. Mathews of Seattle, Wash., Mrs Mildred Haag of Creston,

Guy Henderson and Miss Hattie Henderson were in Tarkio, Mo Monday for the
funeral of their cousin, Ed Standiford of Northboro, Iowa. Services were from the Davis Funeral Home in

Standiford suffering serious illness was unable to attend the services.

Thomas
Symonds, 86, prominent farmer, died at his home near Lenox early Friday
morning. He was born near Mt Etna, Iowa
and had been a farmer all his life having lived in Cass, Union, Adams and
Taylor counties. He was a pioneer in
this area, and had herded cattle on the open prairie with his father and
grandfather. He was a member of the
Salem Church of the Brethren. He and his
wife observed their 59th wedding anniversary Dec 28, 1957.
Funeral
services were Sunday afternoon at the Salem Church of the Brethen with Rev.
Leonard Lutz and Rev Charles Colyn officiating. Burial was in the Salem Church Cemetery.
Survivors
include his wife, Laura, 3 sons, Everett at home, Raymond of Hopeville, Iowa,
Ernest of Creston, 3 daughters, Mrs Mae Case of Brighton, Colo, Mrs Iola Steele
of Knoxville, Mrs Sylvia Cairns of Des Moines, 31 grandchildren and 22 great
grandchildren.

Frank Tuttle
died at his home in Cassopolis, Mich Nov 17. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Marion Tuttle and was born and lived for
many years in Lenox. He was a veteran of
World War I and was 67 years old. He is
survived by two sisters, Mrs Ernie Reed of Salem, Ore and Miss Ruth Tuttle of
Des Moines.

Cora Luella
Wall, daughter of Frederick and Mary Alice Staubus was born May 9, 1875 on a
farm near Redding, Iowa and passed away Oct. 4, 1958 at 8:15 on the home of her
daughter, Mrs A L Lourie at Conway. She
was 83 years, 4 months and 25 days old.
She was
united in marriage to John Adam Wall, May 31, 1888 at Grant City, Mo. To this union were born 9 children, seven of
whom survive: Orville and Otis of Clearfield, Floyd of Shenandoah, Angie Waugh
of Afton, Fern Louise of Conway, Hazel Nilsson of Brownfield, Tex. and Frieda
Shoenhair of Creston.
She was
preceded in death by her husband, two sons Don and Clarence, two sisters, one
brother and her parents.
She is
survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 5 great great
grandchildren, one half brother, A P Pettis, Bedford, One half sister, Abbie
Gavett, Mt Ayr and a host of neighbors and friends.
She was a
kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her children and all who
knew her.
Services
were held from the Christian Church, Clearfield, Iowa Monday Oct 8, 1958 at
2:30 o’clock pm with the Rev. Dale Sawyer officiating. Interment was made in Lenox Cemetery.

White, Philip Joseph -
Philip
Joseph White was born at McFall, Mo., on February 2, 1902. During the years of
his youth the family lived at Darlington Mo. Joe began barbering at the age of
15.
He was
married to Thelma Bethke of Red Oak, Iowa, on November 28, 1946, and they went
to Cherokee in 1947 where he operated the American Barber shop.
Joe's health
began to fail about four years ago and the last year and a half has been a
period of increasing bodily weakness and distress with frequent trips of
extended time to the hospital.
Death came
Sunday evening following a day of unusual comfort and high spirits.
He is
survived by his wife Thelma, his mother Mrs M M White of Darlington, Mo, a
sister Mrs H A Proffitt of Moberly, Mo, two daughters Mrs Dean Johnson of Red
Oak, Iowa, Mrs Clyde Connell of Rochester, NY and four grandchildren together
with a large circle of
friends.
Joe was a member
of St Paul's Methodist Church and a member
of Jacoby
Lodge No. 447 AF and AM at Darlington, Mo. He became a Mason at the age of 21
and ten years ago received his 25 year pin from the Lodge at Darlington.
Aside from
the beloved life of his home and the efficient and
friendly
operation of his shop, his main interest was his yard
and flowers.
Funeral
services were Tuesday afternoon with short services
and burial
at Lenox Wednesday Jan. 7.

Wilt, Samuel
Porter –
Samuel
Porter Wilt was born Nov 7, 1862 in Platte township Taylor County, Iowa and
died at the Dory Nursing Home in Creston Dec 10 at the age of 96 years.
He was the
second son of six born was son of six whose father was James M Wilt and mother
Catherine Hamilton Wilt.
The log
cabin in which he was born was one and one quarter miles north of the farm home
in which he lived for 72 years.
He was
married to Leota Carlson Feb 11, 1886. Mrs Wilt died in 1957.
He was a life
long member of the Methodist Church. Calvary Church was built on land given by him and for over half a
century served as the center for Christian activities of that rural community.
Survivors
include one son J H Wilt of Carlisle, grandson, James F Wilt of Carlisle, two
granddaughters Mrs Jaynane Zima of Carlisle and Mrs Martha Lamar of Dallas,
Tex. Also four great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were conducted by Rev Howard Ball at the Clearfield Methodist Church
Dec. 12. Joan Owens was organist.
Bearers were
Floyd Gourley, Gerald Mcharry, Leland Maharry, Guy Horton, Elmer Jensen and Jim
Shawler.
Burial was
in Lenox Cemetery.

Woods, Harold –
Mrs Evan
Brannon returned Saturday night from Sheldon, Wisc. where she had gone to
attend funeral services for her brother, Harold Woods. He passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon
after a heart attack.
Funeral
services were at the Christian Church in Sheldon Friday afternoon.
Others who
attended from Lenox were Mrs Mary Cook, Mrs Freida Boltinghouse, Joe Trost,
George Cook, Mrs Wayne O’Riley. They
went to Sheldon Thursday and returned Saturday. Mr Woods was a brother-in-law of Mrs Cook, Mrs Boltinghouse and Mrs
Trost and an uncle of Mrs O’Riley and George Cook.
The deceased
formerly lived in this vicinity. Survivors include his wife, the former Emma Trost of Lenox, 3 daughters,
a brother, Gene Woods of Clearfield, and a sister Mrs Clarence Ethington of
Diagonal.
