Mrs. Ray McMullin Died Unexpectedly

Mrs. Ray McMullin died unexpectedly at her home in Bedford Saturday, October 18 following a stroke that morning.

Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Anthony Blankers. Burial was in Old Memory cemetery at New Market.

Mae Elizabeth Hulse was born in Greene County, Tennessee in 1895 and passed away at the age of 63 years, 26 days. She was united in marriage to Raymond [Elder] McMullin on Dec. 23, 1915. To this union two children were born, the first child, Lela McMullin, who died in infancy, and Norma Marie McMullin, who died in April 1936 at the age of 9 years.

She was a great lover of her home and of her garden and flowers.

Mrs. McMullin is survived by her husband, Raymond E. [lder] of the home, and a host of relatives and friends. She spent the greater part of her life on a farm near New Market, and the past 20 years had resided in Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wm. P. Hulse, who died in 1914, and Margaret [Brown] Hulse, who died in 1922.

Ora May McKay, 96 Last Rites Held November 3

Funeral services for Mrs. William (Ora May) McKay, 96, of Laramie, Wyoming, formerly of Sharpsburg, were held November 3 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Mrs. McKay died October 30, 1973, at Laramie. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Ia.

Ora May Brown McKay, daughter of David [Anderson] and Mattie [Martha Freeman] Brown, was born June 22,1877, at Sharpsburg, Iowa.

She was married to William C. [usick] McKay February 22, 1899. To this union four children were born: Ray, who died in infancy; Mrs. Jacob (Gladys) Eicher of Olympia, Washington; Lester of Sharpsburg and Paul [Anderson] of Laramie, Wyoming with whom she made her home the last five years.

She accepted Christ in her life in 1916 and remained faithful   to that choice until death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, June 27, 1965, great grandson, Richard McKay, in 1968, great grandchild, Ivan Dean Eicher in 1971, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her three children; two daughters-in-law, Netha and Margaret; one son-in-law, Jacob Eicher, 16 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, one brother, Guy Brown, of Lenox, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lester McKay flew home from St. Petersburg, Florida to attend the funeral of his mother [Ora May Brown McKay] Sat., Nov. 3. She died on Oct. 30 following surgery in Wyoming where she had been living.

Final Rites Held For Wm. McKay

Funeral services for William Cusick McKay, long time Taylor County resident,

were held June 29 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Eicher and Rev. Jay Wilson officiating. Mr. McKay died June 27, 1965 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 27 days. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

William Cusick McKay, son of Albert E. and Anna E. [lizabeth Himilburger] McKay, was born in the state of Michigan, Aug. 1, 1875.

He was united in marriage Feb. 22, 1899, to Orie May Brown and to this union

were born four children, Mrs. Gladys Eicher of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lester of

Sharpsburg and Paul [Anderson] of Mt. Ayr.  One son, Roy, died in infancy.

They spent most of their married life in Taylor County on a farm, until the last

six years, when they have resided with their son, Paul and family in Mt. Ayr.

In 1916 he accepted Christ and remained faithful to this choice to the day of his

death.

He is survived by his wife, three children; one sister, Mrs. Anna Keller of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Homer of Logan, Iowa and Ora of Woodbine, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

Robert Coulter, Jr. Rites Held Aug. 13

Funeral services for Robert Coulter, Jr., 79, of New Market, were held August 13 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with Rev. Charles Bessinger officiating. Mr. Coulter died August 10 at West Heights Manor where he had been a resident for two months. Interment was at Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Mr. Coulter had farmed and been the draymen at New Market. He also had done concrete work and served as Marshall at New Market from 1948 until 1952. He was a member of the New Market fire department and remained active as long as his health permitted.

He was born April 26, 1894, at Roberts, III., the son of Robert and Mary Patton Coulter. He was reared in the Blairstown. Mo., area and came to New Market in 1935. He was married to Inez Hargis Feb. 22, 1922.

Besides his wife, Inez [Veralena] Hargis Coulter, of the home at New Market, are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Maxine) Thacker, of Clarinda, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother, Jack (Chester) Coulter, of Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

FORMER   LOCAL   RESIDENT DIES IN MARYLAND

A former Bedford photographer of the late 1940's, Lawrence Filson, died March 8 in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Filson suffered from a heart condition and complications.

He was a cousin of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Perdew.

Prior to his photography work Mr. Filson worked for two years at Cudahy's. His wife, Jean, had a beauty shop in her Bedford home. They are the parents of two sons and two daughters; they have three grandchildren.

Auto Crash Is Fatal for Mrs. Jack Young, 39

Mrs. Jack Young, 39, the former Twyla Lee Wolverton, of Hopkins, was fatally injured last Saturday afternoon in a two car collision on highway N-44 about five miles south of Bedford.

The other driver was James C. Morehouse who resides near Bedford. He suffered bruises but did not require hospitalization.

Mrs. Young was eastbound when her vehicle struck the Morehouse vehicle, which was rounding the curve from the South to go west, according to Iowa State Trooper David Dudley.

She suffered a broken neck and was taken to the St. Francis Hospital at Maryville where she was pronounced dead.

Mrs. Young, 1951 BHS graduate, is survived by her husband, Jack Young; two sons, Randy and Riley, and a daughter, Deana, all of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Wolverton, Bedford; a brother, Ronnie Wolverton, Hopkins, her grandmother, Mrs. Arch Wolverton; aunt, Mrs. Merrill Chilcote of St. Joseph.

Mrs. Young's services were held Tuesday, August 21, at the Baptist Church In Hopkins, Mo., with Lyle H. Chapped officiating. Interment was at the Hopkins Cemetery.

Twyla Lee Young, Rites Held Aug. 21

Funeral services for Twyla Lee Wolverton Young were held August 21 in the First Baptist Church of Hopkins with Pastor Lyle Chappell officiating. Twyla Lee was killed in a car accident August 18 while enroute to her parents' home southeast of Bedford.

She was born October 28, 1933, eight miles northeast of Hopkins and was graduated from Bedford High School in May of   1951.                       

On December 10, 1950, in Cameron, Mo. she was united in marriage to Jack Maurice Young of Hopkins. To this union four children were born. One, Ricky, preceded her in death on June 19, 1958. The remaining children are Randy Maurice of Clarinda, Iowa, Deana Lee and Riley   Leedean   of   the home.

Twyla   Lee spent all of her life   in this area with the exception   of   approximately ten years she and her husband lived in Omaha, Nebr., where Jack was employed by Roberts Dairy. While living in Omaha Twyla Lee   accepted   Christ   as her personal Savior and after moving   to   Hopkins   in   1963 she united with the   First Baptist Church of Hopkins.

Her family and friends will always remember her sunny smile and pleasant greetings.

She will be sadly missed by her husband and children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Wolverton, her brother, Ron Wolverton, and family, her grandmother, Mary A. Wolverton, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marion M. Young Last Rites Held In Co. Bluffs

Marion M. Young, 61, 1218 Pleasant St., Council Bluffs, formerly of Bedford, died August 30 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha after a lengthy illness.

Born at Bedford he was the son of William [Hensley] and Bertha [May Robbins] Young. He had resided in Council Bluffs since 1958. He was employed as a stationary engineer for the Continental Company in Omaha, was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rainbow Post 2, American Legion and an Army veteran of World War II.

Young owned and operated the Bedford Interior Decorating business in Bedford.

Survivors include: widow, Eva M.; daughter, Mrs. Nancy M. Williams, of Council Bluffs; mother, Mrs. Bertha Young, of Council Bluffs; and three grandchildren.

Services were held September 1 at the Meyer Chapel, The Rev. E. LeRoy Pullman, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery.

Graveside military services   were conducted by local veterans organizations.

Oak Hill News

James P. [eter] Hamilton, 96, died Nov. 6, 1973, at a nursing home in Ames. Services were at the Oak Hill Church November 9 with The Rev. Paul R. Lindholm of Ames officiating. Recorded music of his favorite hymns by Mrs. Charles Fullhart at the organ. Interment was at the Washington Cemetery at Gravity. Jim, as he was known by his friends, farmed many years in the Oak Hill area. Jim and Mrs. (Kay) [Calista] Hamilton were among the organizers to help build the Oak Hill Church. They seldom missed attending and helped with the activities holding many offices. After they were unable to farm they moved to Garner to be closer to their son and family, Dr. Cecil Hamilton, where they resided at Concord Manor. Mrs. Hamilton died in 1966. Recently he moved to a nursing home in Ames. Although they moved away many years ago they left their church membership at Oak Hill, charter members and still felt it was home.

He is survived by their son, Dr. Cecil, and wife, Rita, at Ames; grandson, Clark and wife of Florida; granddaughter, Ruth Kay, and husband of Des Moines; and seven great grandchildren.

About 30 friends and relatives returned to the church after the cemetery services for a potluck dinner and visit.

Theodore J. Reith Last Rites Held In Grant City

Funeral services for Theodore J. [oseph] Reith, 92, former Taylor County resident, were held in Grant City, Mo., April 23, 1973 with interment at Isadora, Mo. Cemetery.

Theodore J. [oseph] Reith, son of John and Mary Caroline Swartz Reith, was born near Bradford, Kansas, Sept. 7, 1880. He was the only son in a family of nine children. His eight sisters preceded him in death.

On December 11, 1901 he was united in marriage to Malona Ellen Round of Sheridan, Mo. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive. They are Ray and wife, Rose, of Nampa, Idaho; Roy and wife, Esther, of Loveland, Colo.; Ted and wife, Cecile, of Farragut, Ia.; Lena and husband, Virgil Ray, of Grant City, Mo.; Marjorie and husband, Sam Vanfossan, of Barnard, Mo.; one step-daughter-in-law, Marie Boyd, of Mountain Home, Ark.; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lona, in Aug 1954 and a granddaughter, Mary Caroline Reith.

Mr. Reith was united in marriage on June 19, 1957 to Mrs. Nettie Caldwell of Sheridan, Mo. She preceded him in death in Feb. 1972.

His first 32 years were spent in Kansas.   He moved to Missouri in 1912 and lived in Taylor County 15 years and in Worth County, Mo. the remainder of his life.

He was baptized in the Baptist Church at Bedford   in 1914 and kept an enduring faith, which sustained him all   during his long lifetime.

Kenneth L. Parks Last Rites Held September 10

Funeral services for Kenneth L. [ewis] Parks, 62, of Omaha, formerly of Gravity, were held September 10 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Carl Cummings. Mr. Parks died September 7, 1973, at Veterans Hospital in Omaha. American Legion Post No. 578, Gravity, made the flag presentation at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

Kenneth L. [ewis] Parks, son of Albert [Sherman] and Etta [May] Konecne Parks, was born at Gravity, Iowa, January 1, 1911.

He was united in marriage to Minnie Crawford in 1932 and to this   union   four children were born: Robert Parks of Wilmington, Calif.; Mrs. Zela Hutchinson of Keokuk, Ia.; Mrs. Phillys Lovell   of Keokuk, Ia.; Jimmy Parks of Quincy, Ill.

He grew to adulthood in the Gravity area and moved to Omaha, Nebr. where he was employed and continued to reside.

He served in the Armed Forces of his country during World War II.

His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death: Moses Parks who resided at Memphis, Tenn.; Johnny Parks who resided at Toppenish, Wash.; Lester Parks of the Gravity area and Neva Mae Parks also of Gravity.

In addition to his children he is survived by two brothers and two    sisters: Estle [Fay] Parks of Gravity, Ia.; George Parks of Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs.    Pearl Teatsworth of Clearfield, Ia.; Mrs.   Anna   Bean of Yakima, Wash.; seven    grandchildren; other     relatives     and    many friends.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

MRS. JAMES JARED, 30, DIES IN MINNESOTA

Funeral services for Mrs. James (Melinda) Jared, 30, of Farmington, Minn, were held February 23 at White Funeral Home in Farmington with Father Richard K. Smith officiating. Mrs. Jared died February 20 in Farmington. Interment was at Corinthian Cemetery, Farmington.

She was a daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Jared of Minneapolis, Minn.

Mrs. Jared is survived by her husband, James [Lewis]; daughter, Dawn; sons Mark, Timothy and Daniel; father, sister and brother.

Robert Wilson, Jr.

Funeral services for Robert Paul Wilson, Jr., of New Market, 20, were held February 19 at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with Carl Cummings officiating. Robert died at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital February 16, 1973, where he had been a patient since January 12. Interment was at the Clarinda Cemetery.

Robert Paul Wilson, Jr. son of Robert and Janette [Wolf] Wilson, was born April 29, 1952, at the Saint Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.

He attended 13 years of school in New Market, then attended Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa, where he was a junior in Engineering, when he became ill last October.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Craig, and his   grandfather, S.   E.   Wolf.

He leaves loved ones: his parents, Robert and Janette; one sister, Julie; two brothers, Mike   and Mark; his fiancˇe, Glenda Huntsman; grandparents, Irma S. Wolf, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilson; great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Young, Mrs. Clara Carver and Glen O'Bryant; several uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

He was a member of the New Market United Methodist Church.

Bobby was a kind and considerate, son, loved one and friend and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
