[Lola Mae Mahan Wilson]

Lola Mae Wilson

Funeral services for Mrs. Carl (Lola Mae) Wilson, 82, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Bedford, were held March 2 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home with Carl Cummings officiating.  Mrs. Wilson died March 24, 1978, in Long Beach.  Interment was at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Mo.

Lola Mae Mahan Wilson, daughter of William and Lettie Mobley Mahan, was born near Bedford, in Taylor County Iowa, October 28, 1895.

On December 1, 1917, she was united in marriage to Carl Wilson and to this union three children were born:  Eldon, Charlene and Donald.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Eldon, a brother, Joseph Mahan, and a sister, Fay Gaddis.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Carl, of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Lillian Carmichael and her husband Perry of Cheyenne, Wyo.; her daughter, Charlene and son-in-law, John Strayer, of Long Beach, Calif.; son Donald, and his wife, Donnie Wilson, of Grant, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She taught school in Taylor County for many years.

On December 1, 1977, Carl and Lola celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Early in her youth she became a member of the High Prairie Methodist Church.

Acting as pallbearers for her service are former students of Mrs. Wilson.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jessie Burgmaier Rites Held March 28

Funeral services for Jessie Charlotte Burgmaier, 65, of Bedford, held March 28 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, were officiated by Mr. Carl Cummings and Rev. Dwayne Madsen.  Mrs. Burgmaier died March 25 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.  Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Jessie C. [harlotte] Bern Burgmaier, daughter of Herman Bern and Louella Scherlock Bern, was born at Lincoln, Iowa, on February 23, 1913.

She grew to maturity in the Lincoln area where she attended the rural school and the Reinbeck Iowa High School.

She was united in marriage to Herman Burgmaier in August of 1931 at Reinbeck, Iowa, and they lived on farms in that area until they moved to Taylor County, Iowa in 1948, where they lived on a farm east of Bedford until they moved into Bedford in 1971, where they have since continued to reside.

Three sons, Eugene, Gordon and Marshall, were born to share their parental love.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Herman, of the home; three sons, Eugene H. and his wife Kathy; Gordon B. and his wife Sharon; Marshall B. and his wife Dixie; nine granddaughters; and one sister, Margaret Ferguson of Waterloo, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Golden Rule Rebekah Lodge No. 134 of Bedford, Iowa.

She will be remembered by her family and friends as a kind and considerate wife and mother, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ada Reed Services Held March 30

Services for Mrs. Ada Reed were held March 30, conducted by Rev. Dwayne Madsen.  Burial was in the Blockton Cemetery, Blockton, Ia.  Mrs. Reed died March 26, at the home of her daughter and husband, Mabel and William Shay in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 91.

Ada Reed, daughter of William and Della Miller Bosch was born in Nodaway County, Mo., November 24, 1886.  She lived in Stillwater, Okla., as a child and until her father died when she was nine.   Her mother then moved to Taylor County where she and her four brothers grew to adulthood.

On February 17, 1904, she was united in marriage to George B. Reed at Blockton, Iowa, and they lived on the farm homesteaded by her husband's father, Jacob Reed.  To this union four children were born; one son, John William and triplet daughters, Mabel, Ferne and Wilma.

They farmed for 54 years until the death of her husband on November 12, 1958.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two grandsons, Mike and John Wilmer Reed and her four brothers, George, Orta, William and Don Bosch

Left to cherish her memory are one son, John W. Reed and wife, Bessie, of Russellville, Mo.; her triplet daughters, Mabel and husband, William Shay, of Des Moines; Ferne and her husband, Howard Straight, of Bedford; Wilma and her husband, Oren Clary, of South Haven, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Michael Shay, Des Moines; John Straight, Lee's Summit, Mo.; Robert Straight, Bedford; Elvin Reed, Russellville, Mo.; Sandra Beggs, Guilford, Mo.; Ada Lafferty and George and James Clary, Wichita, Kansas; Linda and Amy Clary, South Haven, Kans.; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn and Faye Bosch of Kansas City.

She was a member of the Blockton Methodist Church.

She enjoyed her family and friends and remained alert until her last illness.  God has granted her rest from suffering.

William Osburn

William Osburn, son of John and Jane [Proudfoot] Osburn, was born in Le Claire, [Scott County] Iowa, January 24, 1855, and passed away from his home near Bedford, Iowa, April 23, 1933, at the age of 78 years and three months.

He was united in marriage to Linnie A. Miles [Anna Linard], daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E. [dward] M. Miles [Julia Erwin], on December 11, 1878.  They resided on a farm in Scott County for three years, then moved to Lake City, Iowa, and finally came to Taylor County, where they resided for the last 38 years.

To this union were born 7 children, two of whom, Jimmie and Mrs. Gertie [Gertrude Belle] Henderson, preceded their father in death.  Those surviving are the wife, Mrs. L. A. Osburn [Anna Linard], Roy and Minnie at home, F. [rancis] I. [rvin] Osburn of Auburn, Iowa, Emmett L. [loyd] and Walter Osburn at Bedford.  In addition to those mentioned he leaves 12 grandchildren and many other relatives and a large number of friends.

He was converted during the Rev. Billy Sunday's revival services, which were held in Bedford, Iowa, in 1902, and became a member of the Baptist church of this city where he was a member in good standing at the time of his death.

He had served as trustee in this church for several years.

Rev. Clark M. Crowell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, had charge of the funeral services, which were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home.  Interment was in the Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Wm. Osburn, 83, Dies Tuesday Eve

Mrs. William Osburn, 83, a resident of the Bedford community for many years, died at her home east of Bedford at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, Dec. 13.  She had been in failing health for many years.

Mrs. Osburn [Anna Linard "Linnie" Miles] is survived by five children, [Francis] Irvin Osburn of Auburn, Iowa, Roy and Minnie of the home, Emmett and Walter of Bedford.  There are also several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at the home at 2:15 o'clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. D. Steffenson.  Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery.
