Obituary

Richard Loutzenhiser was one of twins born to David and Eliza [Brown] Loutzenhiser in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, July 31, 1850. He was left an orphan at seven months of age but lived as a boy with his aunt in Mercer County.

In 1872 he came from Pennsylvania to Worth County, Missouri. Three years later he came to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he bought a farm. In 1876 his twin brother, John, came from Pennsylvania and from that time on this community has known them as the Loutzenhiser Brothers. A sister, Emma, later Mrs. John Conine, came from Pennsylvania two years later to keep house for the boys.

In 1881 each of the brothers were married, Richard Loutzenhiser married Carrie B. [lanche] Miller and to this union was born four daughters. The eldest, Laura Lee Abarr, preceded him in death in 1928. Surviving him are his wife, his daughters, Blanche Owens of Des Moines, Amy King of Bronson, and Rita Bliss of Copper Cliff, Ontario, Canada, and eight grandchildren.

His twin brother, John, preceded him in death Jan. 1, 1929.

The first 23 years of his married life he lived on his farm, 4 miles northeast of town, and the next 23 years on his place now occupied by Robert Ford. In 1927 he moved to his late residence to be nearer to the heart of town.

In 1914 he united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Blockton and has been a quiet assisting member ever since.

His death, Wednesday evening, August 19, 1931, was a shock to the community as he was ill only an hour or so, passing away quietly while resting. He will be missed by all of us for he was a person of wide interests. The young people have become accustomed to see his face at their ball games, for the weather was seldom too hot or too cold for him to see their games.

The people of the church recognize their loss for he was one who quietly gave them assistance when they needed it. He was one always willing to co-operate in working for those things that he thought added to the progress of the community. Most of all, however, will the loss be felt by his family and relatives for he was essentially a family man.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Warrior, and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery. He was borne to his last resting place by six of his nephews.
