Isaac Hutchinson Dead

Isaac [Brown] Hutchinson was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1836, and died at his home in North Bedford on Thursday morning, September 12, from cancer of the stomach. He has been ill for the past year, but had only been bedfast for the past eight weeks, and while all that could possibly be done was done nothing could stay the ravages of the dread disease.

At the age of six years he left his Pennsylvania home with his parents and moved to Clay Lick, Ohio. While living in Ohio he was united in marriage to Miss Samantha [Nancy] Leddick, on May 23, 1861, and the following year they moved to Siam, Iowa. After several years residence there they moved to Illinois, where they remained a year and then returned to Iowa, buying a farm a mile and a half north of Siam, and this continued to be their residence until they moved to Bedford six years ago. Seven children were born to this happy couple, six of whom still live. They are Mrs. Martha Clayton, Wisner, Neb; Mrs. Mary Hosman, Bedford; John A. [lbert], Siam; Mrs. Rebecca Hosman, Siam; Isaac B.[rown], Siam; Mrs. Anna McFarland, Siam; Charles W. died in1865. Aside from the children and an aged and heart broken wife he also leaves several brothers and sisters to mourn his loss. They are Wilse, John and Carl, of Horton, Kas; Samuel, of Kansas City; Abraham, of Villisca; Mrs. Mary Hankins and Mrs. Melinda Burnham, of New Market, and Mrs. Dillie Bramble, of Thayer, Mo.

The deceased first became a Mason at Siam and when he moved here he transferred his allegiance to the local lodge, which had charge of the ceremonies at the cemetery at Siam where the burial was held on Sunday forenoon. Rev Dunlavy, of Gravity, conducted the funeral services at the church at Siam. All the relatives named, except the brother, Abraham, at Villisca, were in attendance at the funeral, and also a cousin, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Brown, of Pacific Junction, Iowa. The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones in their loss of an affectionate husband.

OBITUARY OF MRS. WILLIAM McGINNESS

Mrs. Melissa [Malissa] Endsley McGinniss [McGinness] was born in Butler County, Iowa, April 22, 1857 On Dec. 23, 1877, she was married to Mr. William McGinnis [McGinness] at Maryville, Mo.

Four children were born to them, three daughters and one son. In 1881 they moved to Bedford making this their home till some six years ago, when her companion in life passed away; she went to make her home with her daughter in Greeley, Colo.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour and united with the church early in life and has ever been a faithful follower of the Master though in later years she could not always go to services, she never forgot to seek His message to her, by reading the Bible every day. In her devotion to God and Christian life she has left one of the most precious heritages one can leave to their children.

She leaves to sorrow at the breaking of those tender ties which bind the hearts of loved ones together here on earth, but rejoice that with her it is the entering into the fuller life and a home in that better country where she will wait for them, her three daughters, Mrs. J. [ohn] R. [oy] Fine [Carrie Maude] of Raymond, S. D., Mrs. R. F. Ball of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Carl B. [asset] Sanbourn [Gladys Sanborn] of Greeley, Colo., and the one son, George McGinnis [McGinness] of Wathena, Kans.; three grandchildren, six sisters, and four brothers.

And the soul that once lived

here,

Find peace in the land of the

Blessed."

Obituary W. C. McGinnis

W. C. McGinnis passed away at his home in Bedford, Thursday morning, January 31. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Baptist church conducted by Rev. C. C. Hatcher. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.

Wm. C. [ornelius] McGinnis [McGinness] first saw the light of day on Dec. 14, 1858, near New Market, Taylor County, Iowa.

Yielded up the struggle for supremacy against the angel of death at his home in East Bedford Thursday morning January 31, 1918 at 1:45 o'clock.

Shortly after the birth of the new [year] the weary traveler entered the portals of the Holy City at the command of the loving Captain. Thus a brave soldier was mustered out of a most heroic fight, to be decorated with the robe and the crown.

When but about one year of age deceased was taken with his father's family to reside near Maryville, Mo. Here he was married to Miss Malissa Endsley on Dec. 23, 1877.

Together they came again to Taylor County and to Bedford, where ever since he has figured in the affairs of community life. His time was largely devoted to community and county life and to stock raising and farming. He was two times sheriff of Taylor County and a number of years deputy county sheriff.

There were born to Mr. and Mrs. McGinnis [McGinness], four children, Mrs. Maude Fine, Bedford; Mrs. Bertha Ball, Denver, Colo.; Geo. McGinnis [McGinness], Wathena, Kansas; Mrs. Gladys Sanburn [Sanborn], Greeley, Colo. There are three grandchildren, Billy Fine, Paul and Imogene McGinnis [McGinness]. One sister, Mrs. Ashford, Maryville, Mo. ; a brother, Jim McGinnis [McGinness], Maryville; Dennis and Denver McGinnis [McGinness], Pickering, Mo., and stepmother, Mrs. Nancy McGinnis [McGinness], Pickering.

A number of years ago, during the pastorate of Rev. Scott, Bro. McGinnis [McGinness] professed faith in his savior and became identified in membership with this first Baptist church of Bedford. The course of his spiritual career has had its ups and downs its ins and outs.

Two years ago he renewed his covenant vows to the church and his Master, in his renewed devotion faced a career of suffering and deprivation through which he passed with a confidence in a loving Master and a faith supreme that all his suffering did not shake.

He drank deep in the closing months of his life from God's book and found pleasures in talking of a saviour's love and grace, of times singing when alone the songs of comfort.

To his pastor and to others he spoke of the coming transition with a calmness and assurance. Aside from the separation from loved ones, he bespoke no fear or regret in making the change.

In deep gratitude to a saviour who comes and tarries with those who trust Him, and with regret that he was not permitted to live longer to do something for His Saviour, he lay down in the slumbers of death to awaken in the land of the "Sweet Bye and Bye," to be free from the pains and suffering of this world, and to await our coming bye and bye.

May his saviour comfort you that you forget not that his "God will take care of you."

A Good Woman Has Left Us

Sarah Sabina Ramsey [Ramsay] of near Siam, Taylor county, Iowa, was born October 17, 1860, near Muscatine, Ind. [Iowa], passed from this life Oct. 13, 1923 at The Sisters Hospital in St. Joseph, Mo., age 62 years, 11 months and 26 days.

On October 28th, 1880, she was united in marriage to Francis Marion Manley. To this union were born six children: Elza J. [onathan] and Grover C. [leveland] both of near Siam, Mrs. Mary [Isabel] Weingarth of Bedford, Ia.; Mrs. Golda [Pearl] Cade of Lincoln, Neb.; Silas H. [arold], at home, and Walter S. [ilvester], who preceded her in death five years ago.

Early in life she united with the Church of Christ at Siam where she remained a true member and faithful worker unto her death.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, five children, four grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Mary Landen of near Siam and also a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Manley lived a consistent Christian life, a kind and loving wife and mother, in every deed trying to do her best, and the memory of her deeds will hover as a spirit over all who are left to mourn her demise. She was known in the community as one always ready to do the Christian part whenever the occasion presented itself. She was quiet and modest in manner; as a neighbor she was kind and obliging; as a mother she was ever ready with a word of praise when kindliness was shown her. So, we are but voicing the sentiments of all who knew her, when we say that in her departure, the community in which she lived the greater part of her life has lost a valuable neighbor and friend.

Not for the dead in Christ, we

weep,

Those sorrows now are o'er.

The sea is calm, the tempest past,

On that Eternal Shore.

Their peace is sealed, their rest

is sure,

Within that better home.

Awhile we weep and linger here,

Then follow to the tomb.

Yet we shall meet again in peace

To sing the song of festal joy,

Where none shall bid our gladness

cease,

And none our fellowship destroy

Dearest mother, thou hast left us.

We our loss do deeply feel,

But 'tis God that hath bereft us,

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Siam, on Tuesday, October 16th, conducted by Rev. Randall, after which the body was laid to rest in the Siam cemetery.
