Death has again been in our midst. After several months of lingering illness Mr. David Laird, of this place, breathed his last Wednesday morning, the 31st of May. We understand the deceased was a middle-aged man, highly respected and loved by all with whom he had been associated in life. He leaves a wife and four little children to deeply mourn their loss. They have the entire sympathy of the community in bearing the loss they have sustained. We would commit them to the care and keeping of a kind Providence, and may His all powerful arms ever hold them up above the more bitter wants of the world. The funeral services of Mr. Laird took place Thursday, June the 1st, conducted by Rev. Randolph. After which his remains were taken to Lexington and interred in the cemetery at that place.

"Died, in this city, on the 27th inst., at the residence of his brother-in-law, Capt. J. S. Agey [Agy], after a protracted illness of pulmonary consumption, George W. Laird, in the 23d year of his age. Deceased came to this city about five years ago, and took a course of instruction at the Gem City business college. About two years ago he went south, traveled through Texas, and finally settled in Dennison, and engaged in business as a clerk. While there he took cold, which brought on hemorrhage of the lungs about a year ago, and resulted in the disease which terminated his life. He bore his long and painful illness with remarkable patience. Though young and tenacious of life, he said he was willing to die whenever it was God’s will. Just before he died he bid his friends an affectionate farewell, expressing a hope that they would meet him in heaven."
