Charles C. [larence] Buzzard, a long-time resident of the Bedford community, died at St. Francis hospital, Maryville, September 11 at the age of 71 years, four months, 22 days.

Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. V. Hart, pastor of the Hopkins Christian church. Burial was at Workman Chapel cemetery.

C. C Buzzard, a resident of the Bedford community for many years, died at St. Francis hospital, Maryville, September first.

Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home, Sept. 4, conducted by Rev. A. V. Hart, pastor of the Hopkins Christian church. Burial in Workman Chapel cemetery.

Charles Clarence Buzzard, son of Levi and Martha Buzzard, was born in Indiana, April 9, 1877 and died at the age of 77 years, four months, 22 days.

He moved when a small boy to a farm near Pickering, Mo., where he spent most of his life until recent years he lived on a farm near Bedford.

He was a member of the Christian church.

He was married to Rosa King on March 6, 1901. To them two children were born, Mrs. Bruce (Lela) Florea of Hopkins, and Loren Buzzard of Bedford. His wife died Nov. 8, 1925.

He later married Mrs. Alice Swaney who with the two children survive. He leaves seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several stepchildren; one sister, Mrs. Tom Carmichael of Maryville.

Obituary - Mrs. C. C. Buzzard

Mrs. C. [harles] C. Buzzard died at her home near Bedford, Tuesday, June 10. The funeral services were held at the Maple Grove Church, south of Bedford Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Eugene B. Nyman. Burial was in the New Hope cemetery.

Mary Estella Stewart was born in Taylor County, Iowa, March 13, 1873, being aged 74 years, 2 months and 28 days at the time of her death.

She attended the public schools in Taylor County and became a member of the Maple Grove church.

On April 2, 1893, she was married to [Joseph] Gordon O'Dougherty. Four children were born to this union: Mrs. James Thompson [Hazel] of Clearfield, Everett O’Dougherty of Clearmont, Missouri, Stewart O'Dougherty and John O'Dougherty of Hopkins. The husband and father passed away in Taylor Colorado in 1910.

On September 2, 1939, she was married to Charley Buzzard.

Left to mourn are her husband, four children, two sisters, one brother, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Harry Morey of Clearfield Dies

Harry [Dee] Morey, 74, of Clearfield, died Friday night, June J8th, at the Ringgold county hospital in Mt. Ayr. He was a retired farmer and had lived in the Clearfield community for some years.

Mr. Morey is survived by his widow, Hazel; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Goodale of Maloy and Mrs. Richard Bailey of Diagonal; a step daughter, Mrs. Ronnie Routh of Creston; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Avis Alexander of Gravity and Mrs. Bernice Beatty of Seymour; and a brother, Russell Morey of Clearfield.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 20th, at the Clearfield Christian church. Rev. Ivo Randall officiated with burial in the Clearfield cemetery.

OBITUARY

HARRY DEE MOREY

Harry Dee Morey, son of Russell H. and Belle Smith Morey was born north of Mt. Ayr, August 2nd, 1896. He was the oldest of a family of 6 children, three brothers, Gene, Dwight and Russell and two sisters, Bernice and Avis. When a small boy the family moved to Tuttle Oklahoma, where they lived for 3 years. Returning to the Clearfield community, he grew to manhood and completed his education in the Clearfield School.

He was united in marriage to Reva Bender, November 1, 1917. To them was born two daughters, Phyllis and Adra.

After their marriage they farmed in the Clearfield Community. She preceded him in death in 1951. Harry and his daughter Adra continued to make their home on the farm.

In 1954, he was married to Hazel Thompson. They moved to Clearfield, where they continued to live until his death.

Harry was very interested in the community and town and took an active part in the betterment of it. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Lions Club and a former member of the Town Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Dwight and Gene.

He leaves to mourn his death his daughters, Phyllis Goodale and Adra Bailey, his wife, Hazel and stepdaughter, Bonnie [Jean] Routh. Three sons-in-law, Charles Goodale, Richard Bailey and Ronnie Routh, and five grandchildren, Jack Goodale, Leila Sheets, Sandra and Robert Bailey and Brett Routh and three great grandchildren, one brother, Russell of Clearfield, two sisters, Bernice Beatty of Seymour and Avis Alexander of Gravity, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

He was a kind and loving husband and father. He enjoyed all children especially his grand and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by the Clearfield Community.

The Clock of life is wound but

To tell just when the hands will

stop

At late or early hour.

Now is the only time you own.

Life, love, toil with a will,

Place no faith in "tomorrow”

The clock may then be still.

The final rites were held Sunday, June 20th at the Clearfield Christian Church with Rev. Ivo Randall of Bedford officiating. Burial in the Clearfield Cemetery. Bill Harover of Mt. Ayr was soloist with Nioma Gaule at the organ.

Casket bearers were George Bailey, Dwight Matheny, Earl Matheny, Walter Owens, Joe England and Ben Aukland.

Hazel Morey, Clearfield, Dies

Mrs. Hazel Morey, 75, passed away at her home in Clearfield, Wednesday evening, January 12th.

Mrs. Morey is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Routh of Creston; two step-daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Goodale of Maloy and Mrs. Adra Bailey of Clearfield; a grandson, Brett Routh of Creston; and three brothers, Stuart O’Dougherty of Bedford and John and Everett O’Dougherty, both of Hopkins, Mo.

Mrs. Morey 's family said a memorial fund has been established and contributions may be left at the Varner funeral home in Clearfield.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Clearfield Christian Church with Rev, Chou Taik Yoon, the pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery.

Hazel Eva O’Dougherty, daughter of [Joseph] Gordon and [Mary] Estella Stewart O’Dougherty, was born December 27, 1896 near Bedford, Iowa. She departed from this life at her home in Clearfield, January 12 at the age of 75 years and 16 days. She spent most of her life in Taylor County.

She was married March 6, 1926 to James Thompson, who preceded her in death April 27, 1947. To this union was born one daughter, Bonnie Jean.

She was a member of the Baptist Church in Bedford. After moving to Clearfield, she transferred her membership to the Christian Church and was active in the Church as long as her health permitted.

In 1954, she was married to Harry Morey and they continued to live in Clearfield, where he preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Bonnie Routh, two step-daughters, Phyllis Goodale and Adra Bailey, two sons-in-law, Ronnie Routh and Dick Bailey, five grandchildren, Jack Goodale, Leila Sheets, Sandra and Bob Bailey and Brett Routh, three brothers, John, Everett and Stewart O’Dougherty; two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Hazel enjoyed her home, she found many pleasures in her flowers and garden and visiting with her neighbors. Most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren.

To know her was to love her.

Final rites were conducted Friday, January 14th, at the Christian Church with Rev. Yoon officiating; burial near Bedford.

Mrs. Mary Stratton, 91, Dies Saturday

Mrs. Mary Stratton, 91, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. [eth] E.[dward] Thompson in Bedford, Saturday morning, August 3. She fell Friday morning, breaking her arm and her hip, and passed away the following morning.

The funeral services were held at the Thompson home at 4:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Currie of Tarkio, Mo. The body was taken to Oxford, New York, where burial was made in the family lot of the old home cemetery.

Mary Kinney, the only daughter of Charles and Julia Kinney, was born at South Oxford, New York, May 15, 1844. At the age of twenty she was married to Charles Stratton, also of South Oxford. Mrs. Stratton was the mother of two children, Dr. Forest Albert Stratton of Atlantic Mine, Mich., and Adelaide Bronson Thompson of Bedford, both of whom were born in New York.

Mr. and Mrs. Stratton moved to Chicago in 1882, where they resided until the death of Mr. Stratton. Since that time Mrs. Stratton had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Thompson, in Bedford.

At an early age she united with the Presbyterian Church at Amsterdam, New York, and later transferred her membership to the Presbyterian Church in Bedford.

Mrs. S. E. Thompson Died Here Oct. 16

Adelaide [Bronson] Stratton Thompson, 82, widow of the late S. [eth] E.[dward] Thompson, died October 16 at her home on North Court street in Bedford after a lingering illness.

A resident of Bedford for 59 years, Mrs. Thompson was born in 1876 at Oxford, N. Y. Subsequently her family moved to Chicago, where she graduated from Lake View High school. In 1899 she married the late Mr. Thompson, and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1949.

Surviving are four daughters: Katharine Carrolle Thompson, of Bedford: Mrs. J. E. Griswold of Wheaton, Illinois; Mrs. Whit Hillyer and Mrs. Donald Carlton, both of Evanston, Illinois; three sons: Richard H. [edrick], Alan D. [eForest] and Charles E.[dward] all of Bedford; a niece, Mrs. M. F. Taylor of Rye, N. Y.; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A fourth son, James S. [tratton], died in 1951 in Chicago.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday. October 19, at the Wetmore Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenneth Miller of the First Presbyterian Church officiated.

Out-of-town relatives here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Griswold and son Jeffrey, Wheaton, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Whit Hillyer and son, Stephen, Evanston, Ill.; Mrs. Donald Carlton, Evanston, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Klevos and son Dan of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, Chicago.

CHARLES E. THOMPSON

Charles E. [dward] Thompson died at Bethesda Care Center in Clarinda, Iowa after a long illness. He was born February 5, 1912 at Bedford, Iowa, the fourth son of Seth Edward and Adelaide Stratton Thompson.

On April 6, 1964 he was married to [Sarah] Geneva Johnson who survives.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Surviving are sisters Carrolle Thompson, Bedford; Julia Griswold of Tallahassee, Fla.; Edith Jordan of Salinas, Ca.; a brother-in-law, Whit Hillyer of Evanston, Ill.; one step-son, Charles Gerton of Kensington, Md. and his family.

Charles had donated his remains to Des Moines Osteopathic Hospital in Des Moines, Ia.

A memorial service will be held at the Christian-Presbyterian Church in Bedford Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m.

Jim Thompson died Sunday about five o'clock at his home in North Clearfield of a heart attack. He had been quite poorly for several days. James Thompson Succumbs Suddenly

James Thompson, a resident of Bedford and Taylor County, died at his home in Clearfield Sunday afternoon, April 27 following a short illness.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Bedford, Tuesday, April 29, at 2 o'clock, with Rev Eugene B. Nyman officiating. The members of Bedford Lodge No. 91, IOOF, attended in a body and conducted a concluding service of committal. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

James Thompson, son of Enos and Mary [Elizabeth Ratliff] Thompson, was born near Greenville, Tennessee, November 13, 1891, being aged 55 years, 5 months and 14 days at the time of his death.

He came with his parents to the state of Iowa in 1903. He completed his schoolwork at Clarinda.

In 1926 he was married to Miss Hazel O’Dougherty. To them was born one daughter, Bonnie Jean.

He became a Christian at an early age and after his marriage he and his wife united with the First Baptist Church at Bedford. After establishing a home in Clearfield, they attended the Christian church there. He was a member of the Bedford IOOF.

He was a carpenter by trade. As a father and husband, he was kind, attentive and thoughtful.

His father and one brother, [Samuel] Brainard Thompson, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife and his daughter; his mother, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Clearfield; three sisters, Mrs. Roe Butts of Bedford, Mrs. Hattie Mason of Clearfield and Mrs. Ruth Marshall of Woodward, Iowa.

KATHERINE CARROLLE THOMPSON

Katherine [Katharine] Carrolle Thompson, who served the apparel needs of three generations of Bedford residents during her association with Thompson Mercantile Company, died on June 1 in Union, Wash., at the age of 85.

Ms. Thompson, one of eight grandchildren of James Monroe Thompson, the store's founder, was born in Bedford. She began her association with Thompson Mercantile after attending Grinnell College and eventually became manager of the women's ready-to-wear department. She retired after the store was sold to Austin Turner in 1972 and continued residing in Bedford until November 1991, when she moved to Shelton, Wash., to be near the family of her niece, Elizabeth (Betsy) Thompson Brezel.

Other survivors include two sisters, Edith Jordan of Salinas, Calif., and Julia Griswold of Tallahassee, Fla., along with many nieces and nephews.

An active member of Bedford's Business and Professional Women Club for many years, "Kitty" (as she was known to family and friends) belonged to the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and sextet as well as hometown musicals and minstrel choruses. When the Metropolitan Opera's now-defunct road company made appearances in Des Moines, she made frequent trips to attend these performances.

Ms. Thompson also liked to travel, read good fiction, and was an avid sports fan. Following her retirement, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Europe. She also enjoyed driving the byroads surrounding Bedford to take in the scenery and learn more about her rural customers.

A memorial service for Ms. Thompson was held at the United Christian-Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 5 at 2 p.m. In accordance with her request that her ashes be returned to her birthplace, a graveside funeral service was then given at Fairview Cemetery on Sunday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that contributions be made to the American Cancer

Society.

Final Rites for George Winslow

Funeral services for George Roy Winslow were held July 20 at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox. Mr. Winslow died at his home near Sharpsburg July 17. Interment was at Lexington cemetery.

Included in the services was the following obituary:

George Roy Winslow, lifetime Sharpsburg resident, son of Samuel and Rosella [Folger] Winslow, was born Aug. 26, 1890 and departed this life July 17,1963 at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 21 days at his farm home near Sharpsburg where he spent his entire life.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. [liza] Loveland on Sept. 6, 1911 and to this union four children were born, Edgar L. [eroy]of Bedford, Paul M. of Sharpsburg, Jennie D. England of Clearfield and Eldred N. Briear of Burlington.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, sister, Mary and brothers, Bert, Jasper and Elmer.

He is survived by his wife Mary, four children, 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister, Eva Arnold of Spangle, Wash.; brothers Albia of Lenox and Orin of Seattle, Wash.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sorely missed by his wife and family, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Lenox Rites For Mrs. Geo. Winslow

Funeral services for Mrs. George (Mary) Winslow, 79, of Sharpsburg, held April 26 at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox were conducted by Rev. David Shaeffer. Mrs. Winslow died at Greater Community hospital in Creston April 23. Interment was at Lexington Cemetery, north of Bedford.

Mary Eliza Loveland, second daughter of Dr. William II and Mary Eliza Wood Loveland, was born August 31, 1888 near Bedford.

She united with the Christian Church at Conway, Ia., as a young woman and spent her entire life in Taylor County.

On September 6, 1911 she united in marriage with George R. [oy] Winslow. To this union four children were born: Edgar L. [eroy] of Trenton, Mo.; Paul M. of Sharpsburg, Iowa; Jennie D. England of Clearfield and Eldred N. of Burlington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away July 17, 1963; parents; her sister, Jessie; half sister, Audrey, half brothers, Arval [Wood] and John [Paul].

She is survived by Edgar and wife Evelyn; Paul and wife Darlene; Jennie and husband Joe; Eldred and husband Lyle; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sister, Ina Healy of Grand River, Iowa; half sister, Helen Glover of Denison, Iowa; half brothers, George Norton of Bedford; and David Norton of Thayer, Iowa, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Rosella Folger

Rosella Folger was born October 3, 1857 in Bureau County, Illinois and passed to her reward at eleven o'clock Sunday A. M., July 24, 1927, aged 69 years, 9 months and 21 days.

On March 23, 1874 she was united in marriage to Samuel Winslow at Tiskilwa, Ill., who died in 1910. To this union were born ten children, four of whom died in infancy. The living ones are Burton of Lenox, Albia of Knowlton, George R. and Orin L. of near Sharpsburg, Mary A. of Lenox and Mrs. Exa Arnold of Denver, Colo.

She made her preparation for the coming event as she made her confessing and gave her heart and hand to God.

All of her children and the eleven grandchildren were summoned at her bedside when the end came. She was cheerful to the last moment and knew each of them.

Besides the children and grandchildren to mourn her departure, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Gedover Doner of Los Angeles, Cal and two brothers, Everett Folger of Lebanon, Mo., and Clark Folger of Manchester, Okla., who were unable to attend the funeral.

The funeral was held at her former home near Sharpsburg where Orin L. and family resides. The funeral was well attended, as Mrs. Winslow was one of the old timers having spent most of her life here and was quite well known.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McClelland of Sharpsburg. Interment was made at the Blue Grove cemetery.
