Final Rites Held August 16 For Ernest E. King

Funeral services for Ernest Everett King, 85, of Blockton, Ia., held August 16 in the Blockton Christian Church, were conducted by Pastor Mel Smith. Mr. King died in Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr, Iowa after years of illness. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Ernest Everett King, son of Percy and Georgia Albaugh King, was born south of Blockton on November 23, 1895.

He was united in marriage on February 22, 1916 to Reva Pauline Waldrip. To this union was born a son, Everett Denton of Blockton.

Ernest and Reva were in various businesses in Blockton for over 40 years. He was in a produce, feed and seed store for 25 years; also a grocery store for 15 years. He retired in 1964.

Ernest joined the Christian Church at Blockton at an early age and attended faithfully as long as his health permitted, serving as a deacon for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twins, a sister and brother.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zenis (Retha May) King, 81, of Plainview, Texas, former Blockton resident, were held in the Blockton Christian Church October 1 conducted by Rev. George Swan. Mrs. King died September 27, 1967 in Plainview. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Retha May King, youngest daughter of John and Susan West, was born in Worth County, Missouri, July 14, 1886. She lived in Worth County until 1909 when she moved to Blockton. She was married to Zenis King, March 15, 1909 at the family home in Blockton by Rev. Challie Graham. One daughter, Zola Ferne, was born to them.

Mr. and Mrs. King lived in Blockton for several years, then moved to a farm south of Blockton where they live a few years. In 1922 they moved to a farm near Plainview, Texas where they lived until Mr. King died in 1952.

After his death, Mrs. King and daughter moved into Plainview where they continued to live.

She is survived by her daughter, Zola Ferne; one sister, Lucretia Ridge of Blockton; 21 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Devore; Cora Wisecup, Rosa Ridge; and brothers, William, Elmer and Lewis West.

Mrs. King joined the Christian church at Isadora in early life. Later she transferred her membership to the Blockton Christian church where it remained.

Relatives from out-of-town attending the services from Missouri were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Long, Maryville; Mr. and Mrs. Almar Ridge, Columbia; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Eaton, Monroe City; Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Long, Moberly; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jacobs, Grant City; Mr. and Mrs. John D. Jacobs, King City; also Mr. and Mrs. W. D. King, Des Moines, Iowa.

REVA PAULINE KING

Funeral services for Reva Pauline King were held Wednesday, July 17, 1991 at the First Christian Church in Blockton with Rev. Scott Marcum officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton, Iowa.

Reva Pauline Waldrip King, the daughter of Dorwin [Darwin] and Lillian [Iona Petty] Waldrip, was born February 22, 1898 in Lineville, Iowa and departed this life on July 14, 1991 at Clearview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

In 1900 the family moved to Blockton, Iowa where Reva attended Blockton Public School and Blockton Christian Church, of which she was a member since 1914.

On February 22, 1916 she was united in marriage to Ernest Everett King. To this union one son was born: Everett Denton.

Reva and Ernest bought the Waldrip produce business in the mid-1920's. They also bought cream, eggs, and chickens and sold feed and seed. In the 1950's they bought a grocery store on Main Street, which they operated until retirement.

Reva was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Temple, for many years a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, serving as Worthy Matron in the 1930's, a member of the Nell Rose Club, the NU Deal Clubs, and very active in the Ladies Aid Group of Blockton Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorwin [Darwin] and Lillian; one brother, Leo Waldrip; and three sisters, Nita Johnson, Wilma Ellis and Ruth Anderson.

She is survived by her son: Everett Denton and daughter-in-law Lenore; three granddaughters, Linda Heiden, Lynette Amrine and Lavonne Nelson; five great granddaughters, Sherry Jacobs, Sandra Breja, Rachel Amrine, Jennifer Nelson and Robin Amrine; and one great-great grandson, Cody Alan.

Reva was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and took great pride in all her family. She loved entertaining as long as her health permitted and will now be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Word was received by relatives that Zene King of Texas died of a heart attack. Body was brought to Blockton and funeral held at the Christian church Sunday. Mr. King was a mail carrier out of Blockton for a number of years.

Obituary – Zenis P. King

Zenis Price King, son of W. [illiam] E. and Louisa [Weese] King, was born August 21, 1886, in Worth County, Mo., and died at the Plainview hospital in Plainview, Texas, July 2, 1952 at the age of 65 years, 10 months, 12 days.

On March 15, 1909, he was married to Retha May West at the home of the bride’s parents in Blockton. To them was born one daughter, Ferne.

Mr. King served a number of years as rural mail carrier out of Blockton. The family later lived on a farm south of Blockton. During this period of his life he became a member of the First Christian church of Blockton.

In 1922 the family moved to a farm ten miles northeast of Plainview, Texas, where they had since resided.

He is survived by his wife Retha and daughter Ferne, of the home; three brothers: Charles King of Plainview, Texas; Alvin King of Albuquerque, New Mex.; W. D. King of Allendale, Mo.; one sister, Bessie Hixson, of Denver, Colo.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 6 at the Blockton Christian church, conducted by Rev. George W. Swan, former pastor of the church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Funeral services for Brian Lawrence, age 36, of Blockton who died Sunday were held Thursday, September 16, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Blockton Christian Church with Pastor Scott Marcum officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be given in his name. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford

Brian Dean Lawrence, son of James Dean Lawrence and Sharon Kay (Johnson) Groff was born August 6, 1963 at Ringgold County Hospital, Mount Ayr, Iowa. He departed this life on September 12, 1999 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska due to massive injuries suffered in a car accident on August 26, 1999.

He spent his entire life living in Blockton, Iowa attending Blockton Public School and graduated from Bedford High School in 1981. He attended Southwestern Community College, receiving a degree in Auto Body in 1982.

On February 9, 1985 he was united in marriage to Vonn Lorine Lock at Blockton, Iowa. Three children were born to this union to bless their home and share their love, James Lee, Lacee Lorine and Joel Patrick.

Brian lost his dad at the young age of six years, due to a car accident. He and his mother Sharon were blessed to join the life and family of Ivan Groff in 1972, giving Brian a dad and sisters he didn't have.

Brian, affectionately known as "HARV", by many friends and family was an outgoing person, making friends wherever he was and lending a helping hand. Brian had a personality only those of us who knew and loved him could appreciate.

Brian had found his calling in life as a Correctional Officer at the Correctional Facility in Clarinda, Iowa. He had a special way with the inmates, receiving a respect not easily attained.

He was known across the Midwest for his talent of raising, breeding and training mules. He and his family enjoyed camping, attending trail rides and various mule shows.

Brian usually was found each morning at the lots, breaking, riding and training mules, or on his tractor. It was an unusual day not to see him riding down the road on a mule usually accompanied by one of his children.

Brian had a strong will to live and gave all he had to survive but it was not meant to be.

Brian was preceded in death by his father, James Lawrence in 1969.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vonn; three children, Jimmy, Lacee and Joel of the home; parents, Ivan and Sharon Groff of Blockton; sisters, Elouise Longfellow, husband  Alan of Blockton, Sharon Mason, husband Mike of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law Harold Dye of Harlan, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Ronda Mothershead, husband Tom of Bedford and Robin Kernen of Bedford; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Brian shared a special closeness with aunts, uncles and cousins.

He will always be a precious memory to his family. We will always cherish the love he gave each one of us in his own special way.

Doyle Lawrence services held

Services for Doyle Edward Lawrence, 51, Blockton, were held at the Methodist Church in Blockton, July 24, 1984. The Rev. Mike Elg officiated and burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton. Mr. Lawrence died July 21, 1984 at his home in Blockton, Iowa.

Doyle Edward Lawrence, son of Katie Elizabeth Smith Lawrence and Edward Lawrence, was born in Blockton, Iowa, on November 17, 1932. He lived all his life in Blockton, and attended the public school where he graduated from Blockton High School in 1951.

In November of 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Two years of his enlistment were spent in Pearl Harbor Hawaii on submarine duty. He was honorably discharged in November 1955.

On August 21, 1959 he was united in marriage to Marvel Johnson and they made their home in Blockton. On January 3, 1964 a daughter, Jodi Rae, was born to bless their home and share their love. He was employed as a blacksmith for 21 years until he medically retired in May of 1980.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward, in 1968 and a brother, James Dean, in 1969.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marvel, daughter Jodi and mother Kate, all of Blockton, brothers Donald, Sioux City, Robert, Stuart, Virgil, Knoxville and Jerry of Blockton, three brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law and 21 nieces and nephews, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Helen Johnson.

He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #443 of Blockton, the volunteer fire department and a councilman on the Blockton City Council. He was actively attending the Blockton Baptist Church.

After his retirement he spent some of his most enjoyable moments visiting and enjoying family and friends, working in his garden and fishing with friends.

Dode, as he was known to most, was   always   willing   to   lend   a helping hand, stop and visit with a friend and work for the betterment of his community.

The chasm created by his passing will not soon be filled in the community.

He was loved and will be missed.

OBITUARY

Edward Lawrence

Edward Lawrence, son of Theodore and Birdie Lawrence, was born February 15, 1898, near Prescott, Iowa, and departed this life April 5, 1968, at Blockton. He had attained the age of 70 years, one month and 10 days.

He had been a lifelong resident of Taylor County, Iowa with the exception of a few years in early childhood.

As a boy, he joined the Methodist church at Maloy and later transferred his membership to the Blockton Methodist Church.

On October 10, 1925, he was united in marriage with Katie Smith at Maryville, Mo., and of this union were born six sons. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence were privileged to observe their 42nd wedding anniversary in October of 1967.

Ed, as he was familiarly known to so many, was engaged in the trucking business for 33 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and since his retirement several years ago, he had enjoyed gardening, woodcutting, hunting and fishing.

A devoted husband and loving father, one of his greatest joys was being with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, neighbors and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.

Those who survive and mourn his passing are his widow, Katie; six sons, Donald of Onawa; Robert of Stuart, Ia., Virgil of Bedford and Doyle, James, and Gerald all of Blockton.

Six daughters-in-law; nine granddaughters-in-law; nine grandsons; nine granddaughters; one great grandson; four brothers, Jake Lawrence of Blockton; Howard Lawrence of Helena, Missouri; George Lawrence of Des Moines; and Orville Lawrence of Oskaloosa, also a sister, Hazel Lawrence of Clearwater, Florida.

Funeral services were held April 8, from the Blockton Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Clarence H. Landis. Mrs. Donald Weaver and Mrs. Edgar Meek sang “Going Down the Valley” and “Beyond the Sunset” accompanied at the organ by Bill Landis. Casket bearers were Lloyd Smith, Volley Henry, Harold Norris, Paul Smith, Joe Everhart, and George Hillers. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery at Blockton.

Centenarian’s Rites Held Here November 15

Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas (Kathrine) Lilley, 100, of Bedford were held November 15 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Elders William H. Castints and Olin Hensen officiating. Mrs. Lilley died November 12, 1969. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, of Blockton.

Kathrine [Katherine] Mae Vanderflute Lilley was born December 10, 1868 to Itske Vanderflute, mother’s name unknown [Trinte]. Born in Friesland, Holland of the Netherlands, her mother died when she was 2 ½ years old. She came to the United States of America when she was four years old with her father and brother Weibe. They went to Salt Lake City, Utah for a short time, then to Pella, Iowa, then to Lamoni, Iowa where she grew up.

She married Thomas Lilley December 28, 1898. They were blessed with seven children. Her husband and two sons have passed away, Leo Roy and Floy Claire.

Survivors are Mrs. Elmer (Edith) Osborn, Athelstan, Mrs. Henry (Beatrice) Poldberg, Bedford, Mrs. Gretchen Cordell, Bedford, Mrs. William (Beulah) Schultz, Cummings, Iowa, Clarence Lilley, Des Moines, 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; one half-sister, Martha Crinklaw, Kansas City; a half-brother, Charles Vanderflute, Superior, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Vanderflute, Lamoni; a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

She joined and was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 13 years old and remained a faithful member all her life. When faced with a task she would never falter, but always said God will prepare the way and I will do it. She loved and cherished her family and friends. She read her Bible faithfully till her eyesight failed her.

Roy Lilley of Blockton died at Veteran’s hospital, Des Moines about ten p. m., Monday, June 12. Mr. Lilley was taken to the hospital a week ago and had surgery on Tuesday. The funeral services were tentatively set for Thursday.

Hold Rites For Leo Roy Lilley

Leo Roy Lilley, son of Thomas and Katherine [Vanderflute] Lilley, was born near Baxter, Iowa, in Jasper County, Dec. 8, 1905.

He moved to Taylor County in 1924, where he resided until his death. He entered service at Camp Claiborne, La., on April 16, 1941, and received a disabled discharge on November 28, 1941. He was an active member of the American Legion 15 years, also a member of the Blockton Methodist Church.

He is survived by his mother and four sisters, Mrs. Edith Osborne of Athelstan, Mrs. Bea Poldberg of Commerce, Mrs. Gretchen Cordell of Sheridan, Mrs. Beulah Schultz of Cumming, Iowa; one brother, Clarence Lilley of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Floyd.

Funeral services were held at the Blockton Methodist church, Thursday afternoon, June 15. Rev. Ward Campbell of Mount Ayr officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery with military honors by the Blockton American Legion at the grave.

Obituary – Thos. Lilley

Thos. Lilley, son of Orpha and Thos. J. Lilley, was born May 4, 1870, near Prairie City, Iowa, in Jasper County, and died at his home in Blockton, Dec. 4, 1947 at the age of 77 years and 6 months.

He was married to Katherine Mae Vanderflute on Dec. 28, 1898 at Lamoni, Iowa and they would have been married 50 years on December 28.

To them seven children were born, Floyd Claire dying in infancy. The six living are: Edith Osborn of Ladysmith, Wisc.; Beatrice Poldberg of Kimballton, Iowa; Roy Lilley of Blockton; Gretchen Cordell of Sheridan; Beulah Schultz of Des Moines, Clarence Lilley of West Des Moines. There are also ten grandchildren, and two sisters, Ida Rankin and Sarah Prine, both of Ira, Iowa; and one brother, Sanford Lilley of Rogersville, Mo.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon Dec. 8 at the Methodist church in Blockton, conducted by Rev. Mr. McEleney. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery.

Joe Richard Lines

Joe Richard Lines, 85, of Villisca died Tuesday evening, April 16, 1996 at the Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa, where he had been admitted on Monday evening.

He was born May 20, 1910 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Hardy Rambaugh Lines. Joe married Lavona Drake on May 2, 1937, in Grant City, Mo.

Joe and Lavona owned and operated a grocery store, Lines Central Market, in Villisca from 1944 to 1978.  

He is survived by his wife Lavona, daughter Linda and husband A.B. Thielen of Omaha, Ne., son Larry Lines and wife Margaret of Wright City, Mo., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Memorial services were held April 20, 1996 at the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca, with Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating

Burial    was    in    the    Blockton Cemetery, Blockton, Ia. Memorials are to the Villisca Ambulance.

LAVONA M. LINES

Lavona M. [arquetta] Lines, 85, of Villisca, Iowa, was born May 2, 1915 in Blockton, Iowa, the daughter of Elbert and Georgia Stephenson Drake, and died Monday, April 23, 2001 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Lavona married Joe Richard Lines on May 2, 1937. To this union two children were born; Linda and Larry. Joe preceded Lavona in death on April 16,1996.

Lavona graduated from Blockton High School in 1933. Lavona and Joe owned and operated the Lines Central Market and she was treasurer for the Villisca Country Club for 20 years. Lavona loved to garden and she always enjoyed when Country Club members would stop by. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Emblem Chapter, Corning, Order of the Eastern Star for 55 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Thielen and husband, Alvin of Omaha, NE. and son, Larry Lines and wife, Margaret of Innsbrook, MO; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Leah Kemery of Blockton, IA.

Lavona is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Bert.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca with Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating. Burial was at the Blockton Cemetery, Blockton, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca County Club. Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca was in charge of arrangements.

Services for Ottie Marie Loghry, 88, were held February 2 at Blockton Christian Church, officiated by Rev. Scott Marcum. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, Ia. Mrs. Loghry died Feb. 26, 1988 at Creston, Ia.

Ottie Marie Loghry, daughter of John D. [unkin] and Sarah V. [enora Yoast Walker] Neal, was born on October 7, 1899 at Dunnegan, Mo. She spent her youth in Missouri and Iowa. On October 8, 1919 she was united in marriage to Ray Loghry and they lived together 63 years in the Bedford-Blockton area.

To this union six children were born: Harry Loghry of Creston, Ia.; Dale Loghry of Osceola, Ia.; Verla Stokely of Granger, Ia.; Robert Loghry of Sioux City, Ia.; Kathleen Stephens of Kirksville, Mo.; and Marcelene Gomez of San Antonio, Tx.

Ottie was a member of the Blockton Christian Church and the Blockton American Legion Auxiliary.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was a kind and considerate mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Final Rites For Ray Loghry, 87, Held in Blockton

Funeral services for Ray Loghry, 87, of Blockton, Ia., held October 29 in the Blockton Christian Church were officiated by pastor Mel Smith and Rev. George W. Swan. Mr. Loghry died October 26, 1982 in Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Blockton American Legion presented Military Honors at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Ray Loghry, son of Margretta Burns and John Harvey Loghry, was born December 12, 1894 in Hepburn, Iowa. He lived in Page County where he attended the public school. Loghry served in the U. S. Navy during World Ward I.

On October 8, 1919 he was married to Ottie Marie Neal in Worthington, Minn. They lived there a short time and then moved near Bedford. Later they moved to a farm near Blockton where they remained for 60 years.

To this union six children were born: Harry L. [ee], Dale D. [elbert], Verla, Robert, Kathleen and Marcellene.

Ray was engaged in farming until 1958 when he moved to Blockton to be the school custodian until he retired. He spent the last two years in Crest Haven Care Center in Creston.

He was a member of the Christian Church, American Legion and World War I Barracks.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Ottie; one brother, Lester, of Villisca, Ia.; two sisters, Stella Hellesen of Council Bluffs and Elnora Howard of Wheatland, Mo.; one half sister, Lena Loghry, Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; many friends.

He was a king and considerate husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

McAlister Infant Dies At Birth

Graveside services were held at Rose Hill cemetery, Blockton, Thursday afternoon, October 18 for Denise McAlister, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger McAlister, Jr., of Bedford. Rev. Carl Stiefel of the Bedford Methodist Church officiated. Denise was born October 17 at St. Francis hospital, Maryville.

Surviving with the parents are a brother, Roger of the home; daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger McAlister of Sheridan, Mr. and Mrs. Harland Freeman of Blockton.

Final Rites Held in Blockton For E. G. Menelaus, 84

Funeral services for Everett Gayland Audas Menelaus, 84, of Sheridan, Mo., well-known oil jobber, were held February 5 in the Blockton Methodist Church. Mr. Menelaus died February 2, 1982 in a nursing home in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton, Ia.

Everett Gayland Audus Menelaus, son of Ella [Woods] and Charles Audas, was born in Malcom, Iowa, March 3, 1897.

When he was five years of age, his mother died, and friends of the family, Ira and Pearl Menelaus, having no children of their own, opened their hearts and their home and adopted Everett. The family lived for a while in Des Moines before moving to a farm near Blockton. At the age of 14 he returned to Malcom and lived with an uncle to learn the barber trade. In 1915 he returned to Blockton and worked as a barber for W. E. Walton.

On July 1, 1917, he was united in marriage with Edna Hoxworth. To this union two daughters were born, Jean Yvonne and Kathleen Yvette. The couple lived in Blockton for all of their married life and it was there that he formed the Blockton Oil Company. They continued living in Blockton until Edna’s death in February 1973.

On June 17, 1974, he was united in marriage with Ruth Bernice Holland in Iowa City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheridan, Missouri.

He was a member of the Sheridan Lions Club and the Sheridan United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; his two daughters, Yvonne Rusco of Blockton, and Kay Ratekin of Topeka, Kansas; three grandsons, Dr. Gary Cavanaugh of Stockton, Calif., and Mark and Kevin Ratekin of Topeka; two great grandchildren: Tara Jean and Corey Everett Cavanaugh of Stockton, their mother Sylvia, and a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Galliher of Iowa City.

Always a considerate, fun loving husband and father, and a second father to his grandchildren, he will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

Obituary

Darwin T. Waldrip, beloved son of Byron and Alice [Mathews] Waldrip, was born Sept. 2, 1871, at Lineville, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Lillian Iona Petty March 15, 1891. To this union five children were born. The widow and all the children survive. The children are Leo F. Waldrip, of Blockton; Nita Johnson, of Kansas City, Mo.; Reva King, of Blockton, Wilma Miller, of Salina, Kansas, and Ruth Anderson of Oakland, California. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two sistersMrs. J. M. Bonafield, of Allerton, and Mrs. C. L. Lunt, of Des Moines.

During his early married life he and his wife united with the Latter Day Saints church at St. Joseph, Mo., of which he has been a faithful member until his untimely death.

Mr. Waldrip was a loving, kind and devoted husband and father and a faithful friend to all his wide acquaintances, always tolerant and willing to give himself to the service of others.

His presence in the community will be missed, not only by the relatives left to mourn his loss, but by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Warrior, and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

J. M. Bonafield and wife, of Allerton, and Mrs. C. [larence] L. Lunt, of Des Moines, were here Friday, called here by the death of D. [arwin] T. Waldrip. They returned here to attend the funeral services Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. A. H. Miller and sons, Eugene and Gordon Lee, of Salina, Kansas, came Thursday morning called here by the fatal illness of her father, D. [arwin] T. Waldrip. Mr. Miller came Friday evening.

OBITUARY

Lillian I. Petty

Lillian I. [ona] Petty, daughter of Jess and Almyra Petty, was born near Lineville, Iowa April 30, 1874 and departed this life April 5, 1968 at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 6 days.

In April, 1890 she was united in marriage to D. [arwin] T. Waldrip and to this union were born one son, Leo and four daughters, Nita, Ruth, Reva, and Wilma.

She and Mr. Waldrip joined the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in Saint Joe, Missouri in 1893, where they made their first home. She attended Church and Sunday school in the Blockton Christian Church and enjoyed her class very much as long as she was able to attend.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1934; her son Leo in 1944, and her daughter Wilma in 1960.

Those left to mourn her pass are her three daughters; 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 18 great, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Last rites were conducted Sunday, April 7, 1968 at 2:00 o’clock with Rev. Geo. Swam officiating, assisted by Rev. Earl Caudle. Burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Lillian Petty Rites in Blockton

Funeral services for Mrs. Darwin (Lillian) Petty, 93, of Blockton were held April 7 at the Blockton Christian Church, conducted by Rev. G. W. Swan, assisted by Rev. Earl Caudle. Mrs. Petty died April 5 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Lillian I. [ona] Petty, daughter of Jess and Almyra Petty, was born near Lineville, Ia., April 30, 1874.

She was married to Darwin T. Waldrip April 1890. Their family consisted of one son and four daughters.

Mr. Waldrip preceded her in death in 1934, Leo in 1944 and Wilma in 1960.

She leaves Nita, Ruth and Reva (King), 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 18 great, great grandchildren, as well as many friends and relatives.

She and Mr. Waldrip joined the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in St. Joseph, Mo., in November 1893 where they made their first home. She attended church and Sunday school in the Blockton Christian Church and enjoyed her class very much until she was no longer able to attend.
