Word has been received that Mrs. Mildred Thompson, wife of the late James S. [tratton] Thompson, Sr., died March 24 at Calumet City, Ill.

Carol Thompson attended the services held at Calumet City.

Final Rites Held March 6 For Jean Maloy, 78

Funeral services for Mrs. Wayland (Jean Thompson) Maloy, 78, of Shenandoah, a native of Bedford, were held in First Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah March 6, with Rev. Frank W. Leeper officiating.  Mrs. Maloy died March 2, 1979, in Hand Hospital in Shenandoah.  Interment was at Bedford cemetery, Bedford, Ia.

Jean Thompson Maloy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Thompson [Elizabeth Delight Sanborn] was born August 24, 1900, in Bedford.

Mrs. Maloy was reared in Bedford and was graduated from Bedford High School in 1919.  A 1923 graduate from Northwestern University, she taught music until her marriage to Wayland Maloy.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, John Thompson Maloy of Rochester, New York, where he is Dean of the Vocal Department of Eastman School of Music, his wife, Charlotte, and daughter, Caroline; great aunt, Lillian Gilliland, Corning; nieces and nephews including Judy Hynnek of Brooks, Philip Thompson and Carol Gregory; cousins including Carrolle Thompson of Bedford and Charles Thompson of Clarinda.

Leona Smalley Lucas Last Rites Were Held In Bedford

Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur (Leona) Lucas, 84, of Gravity, held July 24 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were officiated by Rev. James Dale.  Mrs. Lucas died July 20, 1980, in Clarinda Municipal Hospital.  Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Leona W. [eir] Smalley Lucas, daughter of John Thomas Weir and Sarah Meloy Weir, was born in Conway, Iowa, December 17, 1895.  She lived in Taylor County and grew to maturity in the Forest Grove community where she attended the public school and Forest Grove Church.

On December 17, 1913, she was united in marriage to Ralph Wilson Smalley at Bedford and they lived in Taylor County.

To this union eight children were born: Nelson W., Ruth Whitney, Ralph Jr., Laurel G., Bethel Adams, Jean T., Mary Wood and Patricia Jackson.

After her husband's death she was united in marriage to Arthur Lucas in March 1970.

Mrs. Lucas was a member of the Gravity United Methodist Church, Golden Rule Rebekah Lodge #134 and Royal Neighbors of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and one daughter, Ruth.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Arthur Lucas; three daughters: Bethel, Mary, and Patricia; four sons, Nelson, Ralph Jr., Laurel and Jean; three stepsons: Charles Lucas, C. R. Lucas, and Ray Lucas; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Lucas was a kind and considerate wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kenneth Henry Dies - Bedford

Kenneth [Eugene] Henry, 41, of Bedford, passed away Monday, June 19, 1995 at Mercy Hospital in Corning.

He was born July 16, 1953, at Clarinda, the son of Doyle and Phyllis (Thompson) Henry. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1972 and Tech School at Southwestern Community College.

He worked for several years in South Dakota and Arkansas before returning home to take care of his parents.

Mr. Henry is survived by his parents, Doyle and Phyllis Henry of Bedford; two brothers, David (wife Dorothy) Henry of Sturgis, S. D., and Clifford (wife Jackie) Henry of St. Louis, Mo., two sisters, Julia (husband Tim) Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Sharon (husband Larry) Wiseman of Bedford.

Graveside services were held Friday morning at the Fairview cemetery at Bedford with the Rev. Ted DeHass of Bedford officiating. The Larkin and Shelley Funeral Home of Creston was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials maybe directed to the Bedford Ambulance Service.

Savera Howard

Dr. Savera Marie Howard, 93, Maryville, died August 31, 1999 at Parkdale Manor Nursing Home.

Dr. Howard was born July 2, 1906 in Adams County, IA.  Her parents were Herman and Rose Henry Wessels.  She married Elvin A. Howard December 26, 1955 in Cameron [Mo.].

She was a graduate of Creston, IA High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern Community College, Creston, IA and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kirksville College.  She was a member of Maryville First Baptist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Anna Louise; a sister, Pauline Huntington; and a brother, Everett Wessels.

Survivors include her husband, Maryville; one daughter, Patricia L. Mozingo, Maryville; one son, David L. Jaquith, Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The body will lie in state at Maryville First Baptist Church from 12-1pm Friday, September 3, 1999.  Services will be at 1pm Friday at Maryville First Baptist Church with the Reverend Mark Albee officiating.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Creston, IA.

Memorials may be made to the Maryville First Baptist Church.

McCloud of Annandale, Hugh J. McGrath, Jr., of Arlington and Charles E. McGrath of Vienna; sister of Rev.
