Wiles, Mildred E. Adams - Mrs Mildred E. Wiles, 78, of rural New Market, died Tuesday evening, May 26 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. She was born November 7, 1913 at New Market, the daughter of Bert and Clara Wilson Adams. On May 11, 1941 she was married to Charles Wiles who preceded her in death March 22, 1989. Mrs Wiles is survived by a daughter Mrs Gary (Sharon) Johnston, Granger, Iowa and two grandsons, Charles and Timothy. There are two great grandchildren and two sisters, Shirley Downey, Wichita, Kan., and Wilma June Mansfield, Ankeny, Iowa. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30 at the New Market Church of Christ with Loren Daly officiating. Burial was at Memory Cemetery, New Market. Wiles, Charles A. - Charles A. Wiles, son of Marion S. and Anna McCoy Wiles was born near Glenwood, Iowa, November 30, 1912. He passed away March 22, 1989 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after a short illness. On May 11, 1941 he was married to Mildred Evelyn Adams at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. From this union one daughter Sharon Joyce Johnston, was born. They farmed for many years northeast of New Market. He was a member of the Church of Christ in New Market. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of the home, daughter Sharon and husband Gary Johnston of Granger, Iowa; grandsons, Charles Johnston and wife Mary, daughters Bethany Ann and Rebecca, and Timothy Johnston of Granger, Iowa; a sister Thelma Trimmer of Bondurant, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edwin and James Wiles and sister Mildred Folkerts. Wehrkamp, Henry John - Funeral services for Henry J. Wehrkamp, 76, of Bedford, Iowa were held August 5, 1972 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, Bedford, Iowa with the Rev Robert Truitt officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery. Military services were conducted by members of the Bedford American Legion Post No 164. Mr Wehrkamp died August 2, 1972 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital, Clarinda, Ia, after a short illness. Henry John Wehrkamp was born Oct 12, 1895 at Dudleytown, Ind, to Henry J. and Lena Acker Wehrkamp. He was united in marriage to Mary O'Dell on January 20, 1921. He passed away August 2, 1972 at the age of 76 yrs - 9 months - 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Edna, and two brothers, George and Albert. He is survived by his wife, Mary, at home and five children, Robert and Donald of Bedford, Dessie Mae Cagley of Glendale, California, Roberta Anderson, Hutchinson, Kansas, Fama Jolene Lamb of Bedford, eleven grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, one brother and seven sisters. Mr Wehrkamp served in the US Army Infantry in World War I. He spent most of his life in and around Bedford and Clarinda, Ia. He was engaged in farming for his entire life. He was a kind, honest, considerate and loving husband and father and was loved by all who knew him.

Mrs Wehrkamp died Saturday afternoon at Glendale, Ca, where she had gone to visit. She was born March 5, 1903, at New Market, the daughter of Mahlon and Alice Dugan O'Dell. She was married to Henry Wehrkamp who preceded her in death. Surviving children are Dessie Cagley of Glendale, Ca; Roberta Anderson of Hutchinson, Ks; Fama Jolene of Omaha and Donald Wehrkamp of Bedford. There are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sisters are Hapiloma Farlow, of Florida, Maude McClelland of Creston, Ia, and Cynthia Hopson of Anderson, Ca. She was preceded in death by a son Robert. The body will arrive at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda Wednesday afternoon.

Wehrkamp, Mary O'Dell - Graveside services for Mrs Henry (Mary O'Dell) Wehrkamp, 79, of Bedford, were held February 24 at Fairview Cemetery conducted by Rev James Dale. Mrs Wehrkamp died February 19, 1983 in Glendale, California. Mary O'Dell Wehrkamp was born March 5, 1903 in New Market, Ia., the daughter of Mahlon O'Dell and Alice Dugan O'Dell. Mary spent most of her girlhood days in New Market except for some time in Colorado. She was married on January 17, 1921 in Maryville, Mo to Henry Wehrkamp of Clarinda. Five children were born to bless their home and share their love; Dessie Cafley of Glendale, Calif., Roberta Anderson of Hutchinson, Robert Wehrkamp, now deceased, Donald Wehrkamp of Bedford and Fama Brill of Omaha, Nebr. Most of their life was spent farming in Page and Taylor Counties, Iowa. Mrs Wehrkamp was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church, attending as long as health permitted. Failing health caused her to leave the farm and make her home in Bedford where she spent her later years caring for her house and flowers which she treasured. Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry, four brothers: Alfred, Louie, George and Harry and her son, Robert. She is survived by four of these children, in addition to three sisters: Hapilona Farlow of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Maude McClelland of Creston, Ia and Cynthia Hopson of Anderson, Calif; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews, cousins; and friends. Charles Edward Wintermute Charles Edward Wintermute was the son of Jesse Hampton and Bertha Shipley Wintermute, born at their farm home east of Bedford. He was the third of six children, all of who survived. They are Earl, Pomona California, Eula Masters, Mapleton, Iowa, Angelyn Vanderburg, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Hampton, Maryville, Missouri, Gertrude Livingston, Fort Meyers, Florida. He attended schools in Gay Township, Blockton High School and Bedford High School. He graduated from Bedford in the class of 1925, along with his future wife, Ruby Jones, who survives him. He began his farming career on the family farm near Conway that was homesteaded by his grandfather, and where he and Ruby established their home after their marriage, April 14, 1928. Charles and Ruby are parents of six children, Louise Dukes, Bedford, Dr. Dean Wintermute, Rusk, Texas; Helen Moon, Tegucigapo, Honduras; (Missing) Sesoto, Missouri, Bertha Turner Knotts, Teqesta, Florida, Jesse, Branson, Missouri.; their family also includes 25 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. The spouses of the descendents are much-loved part of the family also. During their nearly 68 years together, Charles and Ruby farmed near Blockton and Guilford, Missouri, and retired to Bedford. He moved to the Bedford Manor in 1993. He was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held August 12, 1996 at the Bedford United Methodist Church with interment in the Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Wilcox, 69, former manager of the Hotel Garland in Bedford, died at his home in Clarinda, Monday, March 13, after an illness of two years. The funeral services were held at the Pruitt Funeral Home in Clarinda Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev W.H. Meredith. Burial was in the cemetery at Guss. John Wesley Wilcox was born in Taylor county, May 19, 1865. He became a member of the Advent church in 1898, later transfering his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church. He was married in 1886 to Ella Pershing and to them were born five children, John W. Wilcox of Omaha, Mrs Pearl Shum of Bedford, and Mrs Sylvia O'Dell of Bowling Green, Ky. Two children, Harry Wilcox and Edith Wilcox preceded their father in death. He resided in Clarinda since 1904 with the exception of five years spent in the hotel business in Villisca, Gravity, and Bedford. He was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. at Guss, becoming affiliated with that organization in 1896. BEDFORD TIMES-PRESS, Bedford, Iowa, May 11, 1950 MRS SHUM'S MOTHER DIED AT CLARINDA Mrs J.W. Wilcox, 79, of Clarinda, died at the Muncipal Hospital there early Friday morning. She had been ill several days and her daughters, Mrs Lorrence O'Dell of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Mrs P.H. Shum of Bedford, has been with her. The funeral services were held in Clarinda Sunday afternoon and burial was in the Guss cemetery. Margaret Ellwan Pershing was born at Burnside, Ill., on June 9, 1870. When a small child, her parents moved to Iowa, settling in the vicinity of Guss. She was married to J. Wes Wilcox in 1886, and they moved to Clarinda in 1904. The two daughters and families, including five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, survive. A daughter, Edith, died in infancy, and two sons, Harry and John, both of whom were well-known businessmen, died several years ago. Mr Wilcox preceded her in death 16 years ago. Mr and Mrs Wilcox, besides farming in Taylor county, were in business for many years. They conducted a bakery in Clarinda, operated hotels in Villisca, Gravity and Bedford, also were in charge of the Hawthorne Hotel in Clarinda, and retired after cafe experience there. Mrs Wilcox was a member of the Methodist church and of the Order of Easter Star.

J.W. Wilcox Dies in Clarinda Monday

J.W. Wilcox, 69, former manager of the Hotel Garland in Bedford, died at his home in Clarinda, Monday, March 13, after an illness of two years.
