EDWARD LUTON, AGED 98 DIED LAST SATURDAY

 

Edward Luton, son of William and Rhoda Luton, was born near Elizabeth City,
N.C., October 23rd, 1837, and departed this life at Conway, Iowa, January
17th, 1925, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 25 days. On December 7th,
1874, he was united in marriage to Elsie Hill of Lee Centre, Lee County,
Illinois. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary December 7th, 1924.
To this union were born two children, Edward Albert of Medicine Hat, Alta.,
Canada, and Mrs. Fred Wheeler of Clarinda, Iowa. He leaves to mourn his
departure his faithfull wife, two children, ten grandchildren and one
brother and his family of Conway, besides a host of friends. When the Civil
War broke out he made volunteer enlistment in the 3rd New York light
Artillery, Co. M, then stationed at Roanoke Island. He served his country
three years, being discharged at the close of the war. In the spring of
1877, Mr. and Mrs. Luton came to Taylor county, locating near Conway, Iowa.
Six years later they moved to their farm 5 miles west of Lenox, Iowa. There
they spent 41 years. The last year of his life has been spent as an invalid
in Conway. He was an affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor and
always ready and willing to help his fellow men. Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon, January 20th, at the Christian church of Lenox, conducted
by Rev. Shaw, assisted by Rev. Morrow, pastor at Blue Grove. Interment was
made in the Fairview cemetery. Card of Thanks We wish to thank the many kind
friends and neighbors who assisted us during the illness and after the death
of our dear husband and father, and also for the beautiful flowers, and the
many words of sympathy extended us in our bereavement. Mrs. Edward Luton.

AGED (* and was later corrected in his obituary to 87 which was his correct
age.
