Elmer Mehrens, 57, died suddenly Saturday afternoon in Avoca, death was attributed to a heart attack. Born Feb. 20, 1893 at Avoca, he married Margaret Book on May 4, 1913.
They lived eight years following their marriage on a farm near Irwin. Then they returned to Avoca. Mehrens was the local representative of a food products and medicinal firm.
Surviving besides his widow are a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Bornholdt of Council Bluffs; a son, Harry of Fort Logan, Colo.; brother. Peter of Omaha; and two sisters, Mrs. Edgar Lippold of Portland, Ore, and Mrs. Bertha Harmon of Des Moines.
Services were held at the Blust-Bertusen Funeral Home with the Rev. E. J. Schuman officiating at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.
"Elmer died of 'coronary thrombosis' while playing pool w/Dr.; his dog 'Schnapsie' would not allow anyone near body."
