Joseph Book

Joseph Book, pioneer resident of Westphalia, died at the home of his daughter on Saturday Aug 8. He was 88 years, 6 months and 20 days of age. He was buried in St Boniface cemetery on Aug.... 11.

Mr. Book was born at Elkader, Jan. 18, 1854 He came to Shelby county with his parents as a boy and resided on a farm in Westphalia township where he lived until 27 years ago at which time he retired and moved to Westphalia.

On Nov. 9 he married Hulda Huebner, six children were born to this union, two died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death on Nov.. 26, 1935; his son, H. J. Book in November, 1941. and his brother Peter Book of Omaha, and sister Mary Kramer of Earling preceded him in death also.

He is survived by three sisters (sic daughters), Mrs. Nick Bissen, Mrs. Carl Luetticke, Mrs. Peter Blum; 32 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one brother, Chas. Book of Harlan, besides a host of many other relatives and friends.

Six grandsons acted as the pall bearers; Sylvan Bissen, Walter Bissen, Joe Bissen, Herbert Blum, Albert Blum and Alfred Wingert.

Besides a large number of relatives from surrounding towns, Ant. Luetticke of Omaha, Will Kramer of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schultz and Miss Evelyn Kuhlman of Charter Oak, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Huebner and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Huebner of Denison, Mrs. C. Wattier and sons Art and Mrs. Alice Dominisee and son Bobby of Randolph, Neb. and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heller of Dunlap attended the services.
