HON. ERNST MUELLER.

Mr. Mueller was born November 21, 1832, in Dahl, Germany, and was educated in the common schools of his native place, and at the age of fifteen he was apprenticed to the carpenter's trade. In 1851 he decided to come to America, and with that object in view, he sailed alone, and staid three months in Philadelphia, where he secured employment in a bakery. He then moved to Long Island, New York, and worked nine months at his trade, when he went to Amanda, Fairfield County, Ohio, and followed his trade two years, and in the spring of 1854 he removed to Scott County, Iowa. Securing employment at his trade he worked for eight years, when he purchased one hundred and sixty acres of land in the southeast part of Butler Township, and resided thereon until 1872, when he moved to his present home. Mr. Mueller has eight hundred acres of very valuable land in his adopted County.

Mr. Mueller has held almost every office of trust at the hands of his people in the Township. In 1874 he was elected to the State Legisla ture on the Republican ticket, and for ten years he filled that office to the entire satisfaction of his constituents. Both he and his wife are members of the German Lutheran Church.
