DAVID COFFIELD GRANT.

One of the young and enterprising farmers of Pleasant Valley Township is the gentleman whose name heads this sketch. He was born June 10, 1849, in Russell County, Alabama, and is a son of Thomas M. and Mary J. Grant, and a nephew of Judge James Grant, for many years one of the most widely known men in the State of Iowa. Young Grant was reared on his father's farm, where he received a common school education, after which he took a private course of study. At the age of twenty-five years he came to Scott County and settled on the farm which he now owns, and which is hardly second to any in the County. He has erected a beautiful residence and the evidences of his thrift and prosperity are numerous.

Mr. Grant married January 23, 1880, Miss Mary A. Norton, who is a native of England. Of this union two children have been born: Thomas M. and Nellie N. For nine years Mr. Grant was a member of the school board of his Township, and served as president of the board and Township clerk two years. In politics he is a Democrat.
