WILLIAM BISCHOFF.

William Bischoff, alderman from the Second Ward, was born August 3, 1866, in Cleona, this State. His father was Claus H. Bischoff, a farmer by occupation, who came to Iowa thirty-three years ago from Marney, Germany, bringing with him his wife and five children. The children who came from Germany are Cecelia, Lena, Emily, Claus and John ; those born in this country are William and Henry, who are twins.

William Bischoff attended country schools in his early days, and then the public schools, leaving the latter when he was fourteen years of age. He then attended a business college, taking a complete course, and after his graduation clerked for J. H. Meisner, now deceased, who was in the insurance business. This position Mr. Bischoff held for seven years, and then started for himself in the same business as a partner of the firm of R. Rohlfs & Company.

Mr. Bischoff has been unusually successful as an insurance man, and has built up a large business. For a young man he has attained a flattering position in the community, and is looked upon as one of the coming citizens.

He was married on June 13, 1889, to Miss Alivinia S. Asmus, a native of Davenport. Mr. and Mrs. Bischoff have two children : Edwin, aged three, and Lillie, aged four.

Mr. Bischoff has served as alderman from the Second Ward four years. He has never given much time or attention to politics, however, preferring rather the peaceful pursuits of his own private business and his domestic life.
