JAMES ARMSTRONG.

James Armstrong was born September 12, 1829, in Scotland, where he received his education and afterward attended school on the borders of England. During his boyhood a great part of it was spent as a shepherd and farmer. In 1850 he decided to come to America, and landing in New Orleans he came up the Mississippi river on a boat to Davenport. He rented land and farmed for two years, when he purchased a forty-acre tract west of Long Grove. He subsequently sold it and purchased another forty farther west, after which he disposed of that tract and purchased the farm on which he now lives.

Mr. Armstrong is a member of the Catholic Church and affiliates with the Democratic party, and is one of the highly respected citizens of his adopted Township.
