The first school in Sac County was a log cabin 3 1/2 miles south of Sac City in app. 1857-1858. The school was taught by Isaac Cory with about 12 students.

The second school was a log cabin and was located in Cory Grove Township, app. 2 1/2 miles south of Sac City in 1857-1858.

The third school was a log shack built by Seymour Wagoner.  Another was located 5 1/2 miles north of Sac City, and another in 1860 near Grant City.

By 1884 there was reported 122 rural school buildings in Sac County. The following are buildings per township at that time.
