Class of 1959 held 50th reunion

Members of the Class of 1959 who attended the reunion are Mary (Jarvis) Fetty, Sandra (Wood) Dolecheck, Barbara (Stuck) Bower, Karolyn (Smith) Herron, Virginia (Taff) Reynolds, Pearl (Saville) James, Norma Jones, Donna (Campbell) Adams, Rosalie (Beede) Hurgon, Janice (Stringham) Still. Carroll Huff, Lyle Johnston, Robert Palmer, Sharon (Powell) Cameron, Theona (Hoffman) Wilburn, Judy (Keplinger) Mercer, Norna (Hohlfeld) Lynch, Helen (Pine) Clymer, Lou (Reynolds) Church, Lee Rauch, Theanna (Black) Simpson, Marilyn (Davenport) Pritchett, Lyle Main, Jim Burge, Bill Matthews, Jim Smith, Kenneth Lambert, Larry Sackett, Jerry Drake, Raymond Stanley, Phil Richmond, Ed Jones,
Bob Jones.

The Class of 1959 met Friday evening, May 22, 2009, at the united Baptist-Presbyterian Church for their 50th class reunion. Their meal was served by the TEK Service Group and church women. The 2009 committee of Lou (REYNOLDS) CHURCH, Sharon (POWELL) CAMERON, Bob JONES, Larry SACKETT and their spouses decorated the fellowship hall with 50s posters, pictures of classmates, table centerpieces with multi number 50, special napkins, place mats and nut cups and a table in memory of the six classmates who are deceased.

Recognition to Pearl (SAVILLE) JAMES and a gift of a class shirt and CD for being the first to get her reservation in. Janice (STRINGHAM) STILL, second place, a box of Russell Stover candy for being the second reservation in. Rosalie (BEEDE) HURGON for being the last reservations in received a plush chameleon.

Jim SMITH, the class auctioneer, with the help of Bob JONES auctioned off 25 donated items with 16 bidders. It was decided the next day that some of the money would be for scholarships and the rest left for the 55th reunion.

Thirty-three classmates and 28 spouses attended the event. Those attending from out of state were Jim BURGE from Georgia,

Jerry DRAKE and wife Peggy and Kenneth LAMBERT and wife Martha of Grant City, MO; Phil RICHMOND and wife Joyce of Kearney, MO; Lou (REYNOLDS) CHURCH and husband Steve of Lee's Summit, MO; Pearl (SAVILLE) JAMES of Bethany, MO;

Carroll HUFF and wife Ellen of Albany, OR; Lyle JOHNSTON and wife LaRene of Loveland, CO;

Donna ADAMS and husband Philip of Conroe, TX; Theona (HOFFMAN) WILBURN of Hilltop Lake, TX; Leland RAUCH and wife Wanda of Spring, TX;

Karolyn HERREN and husband Kenny of Beaver Dam, WI; Robert PALMER and wife Martha of Decatur, IL;

Mary (JARVIS) PETTY and husband Jack of Clive; Bob JONES and wife Margo, Bill MATTHEWS and wife Alice and Helen (PINE) CLYMER and husband Kenny, all of Des Moines; Ed JONES of Mount Pleasant, Raymond STANLEY and wife Jane of Manson, Sharon (POWELL) CAMERON and husband Rex, Virginia (TAFF) REYNOLDS and husband Larry, Sandra (WOOD) DOLECHECK and husband Leland, all of Osceola;

Rosalie (BEEDE) HURGON and husband Kenny of Melrose; Norma (HOHLFELD) and husband Jerry of Bernard; Larry SACKETT and wife Louise and Jim SMITH and wife Mary Ann, all of Ellston; Judy MERCER and husband Ernie of Kellerton;

Lyle MAIN and wife Virginia, Barbara (STUCK) BOWER and husband Harold, Norma JONES, Marilyn (DAVENPORT) PRITCHETT and husband Francis, Theanna (BLACK) SIMPSON and husband Dick and Janice (STRINGHAM) STILL and husband Eldon, all of Mount Ayr.

On Saturday, 48 class members and their spouses met at the Ramsey Farms for brunch with Ron REYNOLDS and wife Shari of Earlham and Sue (RICHARDS) SICKELS attending. Later Sondra (HERRINGTON) STUCK and Judith (BECK) HULL stopped in to visit. Some class members took a tour of the farm and had a buggy ride.

Saturday evening 43 classmates and their spouses attended the alumni banquet.

Class of 1959 classmates meet

Ten "girls from the class of 1959 at Mount Ayr high school met for lunch and visiting in Osceola Monday, Sept. 28. The Class of 1959
55th Reunion


Members of the Mount Ayr Class of 1959 at their 55th reunion included:

BACK ROW, L-R: Bob Jones, Carroll Huff, Robert Palmer, Pauline Woollums, Raymond Stanley, Helen Clymer, Ed Jones, Jim Smith, Fred Rychnovsky and Gerald Drake.

On Friday, May 23, members met at Ramsey Farms Pavilion. The 29 class members and 19 spouses, one daughter and two guests met before 6 p.m.

Each classmate, spouse or guest was given a name tag with the 1959 picture of the member and an update address list made by Wanda Rauch.

The committee members in attendance were Leland Rauch, Norma Lynch and Mary Fetty. A video recorded by Wanda Rauch of past pictures of school days and families of members played for the attendees of the reunion. A fruit bar was awaiting the arriving members and guests.

Carroll Huff returned the blessing before the delicious meal with the choice of Heavenly Chicken or Prime Rib, toss salad, baked potato, green beans, dinner roll and choice of a variety of cakes for dessert was enjoyed by all. Each table was decorated by Wanda Rauch with fresh cut flowers in unique vases purchased in California and sitting on mirrors. Also small black or white packages with candy for each person and black napkins with 55th Reunion - Class of 1959, Mount Ayr High School completed the table decorations. One lucky person that had a blue piece of paper taped under their chair received the floral decoration from their table.

Following the meal, Leland Rauch spoke to the group about plans for the next reunion in 2019. The committee for 2019 will be Jim Smith, Chairman; Theona Wilburn, Helen Clymer, Pauline Woollums, Norma Jones and Leland Rauch.

An auction of items donated by class members was entertainment for the group. Our own auctioneer, Jim Smith and volunteer Jack Fetty, husband of Mary (Jarvis) Fetty, kept the group in stitches. Sixteen items with a wooden bowl donated by a teacher, Grace Moser and made by R. E. Hauptmann, brought $40. Other items were Glass Yard Ornament made and donated by Robert and Martha Palmer, Iowa Hawks Lazy Susan by Yvonne Kinkade, wall hanging made and donated by Theanna Simpson, 2 necklace and earring sets and a shawl made by Wanda Rauch and donated by Leland Rauch, Willow Tree Angel, Home "Tweet" Home picture and an Isabel Bloom Tree donated by Virginia Reynolds. Napkin holder, salt and pepper shakers, Cross picture and afghan made by Ellen Huff and donated by Carroll Huff, afghan made and donated by Marilyn Pritchett, Class of 1959 memory quilt made and donated by Barbara Bower. The total of the auction came to $630 for the class treasury.

Those from Iowa were Barbara (Stuck) Bower, Lyle Main and wife Virginia, Marilyn (Davenport) Pritchett and husband Francis, Norma Lee Jones, Theanna (Black) Simpson and husband Dick, Janice (Stringham) Still and husband Eldon, all of Mount Ayr. Judy (Keplinger) and husband Ernie, Pauline (Wimer) Woollums of Kellerton, Jim Smith and wife Mary Ann of Beaconsfield, Fred Rychnovsky of Benton, Yvonne (Campbell) Kinkade of Creston, Sharon (Powell) Cameron and husband Rex, Sandra (Wood) Dolecheck and husband Leland, all of Osceola, Virginia (Taff) Reynolds of Weldon, Helen (Pine) Clymer and husband Kenny. Mary (Jarvis) Fetty and husband Jack, Bob Jones and wife Margo all of Des Moines, Norma (Hohlfeld) Lynch and husband Jerry of Bernard, Ed Jones of Mount Pleasant, Ray Stanley and wife Jane of Manson, guests Jeannette Quick of Creston and Leslie Rauch of Denison.

Those attending from other states were Lou (Reynolds) Church of Lee's Summit, Jerold Drake and wife Peggy of Grant City, Edith (Olney) Hensley and husband Don of Kansas City, all of MO. Judith (Beck) Huff of Lincoln, NE, Carroll Huff and wife Ellen of Albany, OR, Robert Palmer and wife Martha of Decatur, IL, Theona (Hoffman) Wilburn of Hilltop and her daughter, Angie McNulty, Leland Rauch and wife Wanda of Spring, all of TX, Karolyn (Smith) Herron and husband Kenneth of Beaver Dam, WI.

On Saturday morning 36 members and their guests met at 10 a.m. at Ramsey Farms Pavilion for a delicious brunch.
