Raideropoly theme to play out in MACHS homecoming week

Homecoming activities continue this week with the theme "Raideropoly: Advance Directly to the Cardinal's End Zone and Collect Six Points."

Dress up days and other spirit activities were held during the week leading up to the jersey auction and kind and queen coronations tonight (Thursday). Friday will include the homecoming parade, homecoming football game with Central Decatur and homecoming dance.

Dress up days began Monday, Oct. 8 with the theme "Ride the Raider Railroad" with people dressing up as hobos or train engineers.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, was "Get Rich Day" with students invited to dress up during the day.

Wednesday, Oct. 10, was "Get Out of Jail Day" with students to dress up in black and white stripes or orange outfits or as police.

Today (Thursday) is "Pay the Doctor Bill Day." People can dress up as if they are injured or as a doctor or a nurse.

Tonight's activities will begin with a student council supper in the commons at 5:30 p.m. Activity will move to the high school auditorium where the jersey auction will begin about 6:45 p.m. Along with the sale of the jersey to wear for the day Friday, there will be two 07 jerseys sold to keep. Two autographed baseballs by the 2007 baseball team that went to state will also be part of the auction.

A queen coronation will be held at approximately 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the jersey auction.

Candidates for queen included Taylor CAMERON, daughter of Marty and Shawn CAMERON of Diagonal; Christina ENGLAND, daughter of Bill ENGLAND of Afton and Lios and Alan IBBOTSON of Tingley; Sarah ROBINSON, daughter of Kelly BRAND of Mount Ayr and Shaun ROBINSON of Germantown, MD; Brenna SWANSON, daughter of Ron and Sandi SWANSON of Mount Ayr; and, Lindsey TRIGGS, daughter of Merle and Rhonda TRIGGS of Mount Ayr.

Prince for the coronation will be Isaac GROSE, son of Chris and Jessi GROSE of Mount Ayr. Princess for the coronation will be Belinda SOVERN, daughter of Tiffany HUNT of Mount Ayr.

The queen coronation will be followed by a talent show and the king coronation will complete the evening, about 8:45 p.m.

King candidates include Tyler CAMPBELL, son of Ken Campbell and Lori CAMPBELL of Mount Ayr; Tyler HOSFIELD, son of Randy and Stephanie HOSFIELD of Mount Ayr; Wes KLEJCH, son of Gary and Linda KLEJCH of Mount Ayr; Brock STILL, son of Brad and Cherrye STILL of Kellerton; and, Tyler WHITSON, son of Hugh and Jackie WHITSON of Mount Ayr and Sharon WHITSON of Manning.

Friday, Oct. 12, will be "Pass Go and Collect to Win" day with everyone invited to dress up in the school colors of black and white.

The football team, volleyball team, cross country team and cheerleaders will visit the Mount Ayr Community elementary school in the morning.

The high school will dismiss at 1:10 p.m. for the homecoming parade, which begins at 1:30 p.m.

The parade will form a block north of Pamida, come up Fillmore Street to the square, around the west, south and east sides of the square and back to Jefferson Street, where the parade will end at the high school.

Honored in the parade will be the 1982 football team, 1982 homecoming queen Susan SMITH HICKMAN and 1982 homecoming king Mike COMBS.

Following the parade, a pep rally will be held at the high school football field at approximately 2:15 p.m.

The Mount Ayr Community Athletic Booster Club will be holding a cook out before the homecoming football game Friday night.

The homecoming football game will be held Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Central Decatur and will feature a half-time show by the marching band and drill team.

A dance will be held following the game at the high school. Middle school students can stay until 11:30 p.m., and high school students until 12:30 p.m. (sic). Music will be by MJ Music and Sound from Eagleville, MO.

Hosfield, Cameron reign at homecoming

Taylor Cameron was queen and Tyler Hosfield was king for the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming activities last week. The two were crowned in ceremonies Thursday night as part of the week-long celebration.

Homecoming activities used the theme "Raideropoly: Advance Directly to the Cardinal's End Zone and Collect Six Points."

Dress up days began the week and the judging results for the dress up days were as follows:

Monday: Ride the Raider Railroad, dress like a hobo or an engineer: seventh grade, Hannah Saville; eighth grade, Kaitlyn Warin; freshmen, Jensen Stewart; sophomore, Erica Kemery; junior, Breann Arends; senior, Taylor Cameron; faculty, Nancy Daughton.

Tuesday, Get Rich Day, dress to impress - seventh grade, Taylor Still; eighth grade, Josh Fernandez; freshman, Charmaine Johnson; sophomore, Russel Reynolds; junior, Jeffrey Inloes; senior, John Watkins; faculty, Donna Shields.

Wednesday, Get out of jail day, dress in black and whie stripes orange or police: seventh grade, Maggie Jannett; eighth grade, Josh Case; freshman, Jordyn Grose; sophomore, Erin Budach; junior, Jen Angus; senior, Shawna Creveling.

Thursday, Pay the doctor bill, dress like you are hurt: seventh grade, Hannah Flecthall; eighth grade, Zach Zollman; freshman, Dalton Brumfield; sophomore, Courtnie Cox; junior, Chelsey Hosfield; senior, Tyler Whitson and Cody Lame; faculty, Mrs. Deb Etcheson.

Friday, Pass GO, Collect a Win Day, dress in black and white. On this day it was hard to pick a winner because everyone looked the same. So the class didn't pick a winner.

Another spirit activity for the week was the decoration of the school hallways. The junior class placed first, the freshman class was second, the senior class was third and the sophomore class was fourth.

Activities Thursday began with the student council supper and the jersey auction, which raised $3,425 for the football program.

At the queen coronation, Cameron was crowed queen by 2006 homecoming queen Amanda Pennington.

Other candidates included Christina England, daughter of Bill England of Afton and Lois and Alan Ibbotson of Tingley; Sarah Robinson, daughter of Kelly Brand of Mount Ayr and Shaun Robinson of Germantown, MD; Brenna Swanson, daughter of Ron an Sandi Swanson of Mount Ayr, and Lindsey Triggs, daughter of Merle and Rhonda Triggs of Mount Ayr.

[Page 6] Other king candidates included Tyler Campbell, son of Ken Campbell and Lori Campbell of Mount Ayr; Wes Klejch, son of Gary and Linda Klejch of Mount Ayr; Brock Still, son of Brad and Cherrye Still of Kellerton; and Tyler Whitson, son of Hugh and Jackie Whitson of Mount Ayr and Sharon Whitson of Manning.

The annual homecoming parade led off activities Friday, with the parade traveling around the square and back to the school.

Honored in the parade were the 1982 football team, 1982 homecoming queen Susan Smith Hickman and 1982 homecoming king Mike Combs.

Parade marshals were James and Marilyn Saville, long-time teachers in the Mount Ayr Community school district.

Winners were named in three categories for the parade - community organizations, school organizations and classes.

Winners included:P>Community organizations - 1. American Legion; 2. Class of 1982; 3. Clearview Homes and Estates.

School organizations - 1. Youth Football; 2. Vote OK Committee; 3. Head Start.

Classes - 1. Sophomores, "Take A Chance and Advance To Send Cardinals to Jail"; 2. Freshman, "Cage the Cardinals"; 3. Juniors, "Electrocute the Cardinals."

A big pep rally was held at the football field to cap the afternoon activities.

Friday night the Raiders advanced to the Cardinal's end zone nine times on the way to a 62-0 victory. The Mount Ayr Community Raider marching band and the high schoold drill team had half-time performances.

Following the football victory, the homecoming dance was held at the high school with music by MJ Music and Sound from Eagleville, MO.
