Justin Redding qualifies for third trip to state golf

Raider senior golfer Justin REDDING is returning to the Class 2A boys state golf tournament this year after qualifi=ying as an individual at the regional meet in Guthrie Center Friday.

REDDING was the runner-up at the regional meet, shooting a three under par 69. He placed second to Mid-Prairie of Wellman's Nate Stabala, who had a four under par 68 for the day.

He will advance to the state golf tournament to be held Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, at Lake Panorama National Golf Course at Panora. He will play at noon Friday and at 8 a.m. Saturday in the tournament.

REDDING shot a 36 on the par 37 front nine and then shot a 33 on the par 35 back nine to make his 69 for the day.

As an individual qualifier, REDDING will be among six players from across the state taking part in the tournament as individuals. Other individuals will play from Glabrook-Reinbeck, Sheldon, Sibley-Ocheydan and Durant.

"Spectators are welcome to follow along and support the players at the state tournament," coach Scott GILES noted.

At the regional tournament in State Center, the Mid-Prairie of Wellman team shot a 304 to take first and Albia had a 305 to place second and advance as a team as well.

Third trip to state for Redding

This is REDDING'S third trip to the state golf tournament as a Raider. As a freshman, he went to the state tournament with the Raider golf team which placed second as a team when REDDING'S older brother, T. J. REDDING took the state title, the only MACHS golfer to do so. REDDING tied for 14th as an individual that year.

As a sophomore, REDDING fell one stroke short of advancing to the state tournament as an individual.

At the 2004 state golf tournament, REDDING went to state and tied for sixth as an individual. He had the third best total of any underclassmen at that meet.
